2 ANNOUNCEMENTS Nov 18 th 8:45-9:30 Patt Opdyke from Neighbors Helping Neighbors will talk on hunger. Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a small group of Peninsula community volunteers who came together to enhance neighborhood livability and serve as a bridge between our housed and houseless neighbors. November 18th Guest Speaker Kaia Sand (Executive Director, Street Roots) Kaia Sand has worked as a poet, artist, community organizer, and university professor. Much of her work has focused on economic injustice and homelessness. She taught at Portland State University, Pacific University, Willamette University, and St. Mary s College of Maryland; co-founded Vignettes & Verses, a writing personal history institute; and performed and taught internationally, including in England, Ireland, and Brazil. Thanksgiving/Hunger & Homelessness Sunday, November 18 celebrates gratitude for God s creation and care of our lives and reminds us to share those gifts with those who do not have fullness of life. Stewardship pledges will be received. Christ the King Sunday, November 25, concludes the Christian year with baptism and reception of new members. Women s Coffee Join us for coffee at 10:30am on Monday November 19 th Place TBA for a time of fellowship. Our goal is to hang out and get to know other women in the church. If you have questions, talk with Gretchen Johnson or Paulette Mixon-Weller. ADVENT DEVOTIONAL Seeking the Christ Child is our theme for Advent. We are putting together an Advent devotional book. We will be focusing on the first 2 chapters in Luke, and on being an eyewitness as we seek the Christ child. I invite you to read through the first 2 chapters and listen to where you hear God speaking to you.

3 Some questions to ponder: How has God spoken to you in your life? Where do you see God at work right now in the world? As we await the Christ child, for what do we ultimately desire? How can we express our longing and our fulfillment in God? How can we be an eyewitness to God s work in our lives? We would love to share with the congregation your thoughts. Write your reflections in 2-3 paragraphs and we will print and have booklets to hand out for Advent. This way we can be in conversation with the story of Jesus and learn from each other this Advent season. Please stop by our Child Care Center located on the lower level near Fellowship Hall and join us in extending a warm welcome to both of these ladies on Sunday mornings. They provide child care services for infants to preschool ages from 8:30 to 12:30 each Sunday morning. Seeking the Creative Spirit ~~ Spotlight on RCPPC Artists A new venture featuring RCPPC artists begins this Sunday in the parlor. Paul Barthol displays his acrylic paintings before and after worship for the month of November. His primary subjects are still life, portraits, and some abstracts. His work has been shown in area restaurants and festivals. See what talents God has given our community. We are starting a PRAYER CHAIN. This year s Season of Lights Holiday Program will feature music from Morocco, Spain, Poland, Russia, Japan, India, Ghana (Africa) and the Americas. Among the artists performing are legendary Jazz Hall of Fame vocalist Shirley Nanette; award-winning international group Seffarine (guitar and oud, Nat Hulskamp and vocalist, Lamaie Naki); Cantor Eyal Bitton (congregation Neveh Shalom), violinists Andrew Ehrlich, Tatiana Kolchanova, Mary Rowell; Carnatic Indian dancer Klinton Halliday (Carnatic Indian dancer), and Peter Joseph Zisa (guitar). PRAYERS & PRAISES Nancy Freyer - Has mild case of diverticulitis and her sister will be buried on Dec 10 at Arlington National Cemetery - prayers she will be able to attend. New members joining on November 25 and 2 baptisms People of Paradise and southern CA affected by the horrific fires.
