1 S u n d a y, A p r i l 1 s t, Covenant Renewal Sunday Today s Events Covenant Renewal Luncheon Immediately following the service in the Parish Hall The Friday Night Supper Program which feeds 250 hot meals to our hungry friends and neighbors invites you to enjoy a delicious lunch in the Parish Hall. The meal is offered both as a gift to celebrate Covenant Renewal and in recognition of Arlington Street Church s longtime support of the Friday Night Supper Program. (نكر) Dhikrullah for Beginners 1:00 pm in the Chapel To engage in Dhikr (pronounced zicker) is to have an awareness of Allah (G*d). Join intern minister, Mr. Barb Greve, and our special guest, Nur Habib, in Dhikrullah for Beginners, a participatory workshop. Dhikr is often ritualized through chant, song, and movement by many Sufi orders. No experience necessary. All ages and abilities welcome. Wear comfortable clothing. Dhikrullah for Beginners will begin after the Covenant Renewal luncheon. Worship Highlights First Wednesday: Greening Wednesday, April 4 th, 6:30 pm in the Chapel Join your (new) friends at Wednesday Gathering: First Wednesday to hear guest presenter Marilyn Castriotta. Marilyn recently received training from Al Gore to spread the word about climate change. She will be sharing some of what she learned, and her insights about the connection between spirituality and caring for the earth. Wednesday Gathering: First Wednesday is a service celebrating our divine creativity. Doors open at 6:00 pm for relaxation, bring-your-own supper, and fellowship with the service starting at 6:30 pm. 2 Good Friday Service Friday, April 6 th, 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary Good Friday is a high holy day in the Christian liturgal year. Join us for the Unitarian Universalist observance of the Passion story. The service will include spoken work and extensive live music with Arlington Street s organist, Branden Grimmett. Easter Sunday Sunday, April 8 th, 11:00 am in the Sanctuary On this festive Sunday, we sing O Day of Light and Gladness and Lo, the Earth Awakes Again familiar Christian hymns set with decidedly Earthcentered words. Come celebrate the arrival of spring! Wear your bonnet! This Sunday the choir will complete its two week series of African-American spirituals and gospels chosen to celebrate the rhythms of the Christian liturgical calendar and our own Arlington Street holidays. Don t miss Praise His Holy Name and In His Care-o. Inside Out, 4 th in a series of 4 Sunday, April 15 th in the Sanctuary By listening to music imaginatively from the inside out concert goers can easily tune into thoughtful and emotional levels of musical expression at these free, one-hour concerts. To support community-building and meaningful connections through music, each workshop concludes with an opportunity for audience members to informally share their listening experiences. In this final workshop of the four-part series attendees will explore themes related to the creative process in all aspects of life. Boston Conservatory Chamber Players with Eli Epstein, conductor, perform works for horn choir including Brahms Shaffe in mir Gott. There will be a meeting of the Children s Religious Educaton Council in the Perkins Room today at 12:15 pm. We invite anyone with children in our program to bring lunch and join in the discussion. We ll be reviewing plans for Rev. Vera OBrien s vacation and upcoming study leave and addressing other topics raised by the group. We hope you ll join us. Our older children, the Time Travelers, continue with week three of their Time Capsule project. Special thanks to David Schumann for continuing to work with the group on this special project. Our younger children continue with our exploration of planet earth and all living things. Music Time to Join the Choir Thursdays, 7:00 pm in the Clarke Room Arlington Street s Choir is open, as always, to those interested in adding their voice! Vera OBrien, our lifespan religious educator and a chaplain at the Brigham and Women s Hospital, for an adult program on loss and growth. Participants will identify losses and explore how our Unitarian Universalist beliefs can be a resource at difficult times. This is not a bereavement group because many different kinds of losses will be examined. One participant said, Loss is

4 part of life, but not one that my family was comfortable discussing openly. By participating in this class, I was able to revisit some of my assumptions about how to deal with loss and I made deeper connections with other participants. Kundalini Yoga Wednesdays, 7:30 pm Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga of Awareness, consists of simple yogic techniques that can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter his or her age or physical ability. It is a complete system of yoga that includes breath (pranayam), yoga postures (asanas), sound, chanting (mantra) and meditation. It is designed to provide you with the experience of your highest consciousness through the raising of your Kundalini. Note: Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, preferably made of cotton or other natural, breathable fiber. Note: avoid eating immediately before class. This class is generally held at 6:00 pm except on the first Wednesday of each month when it s held at 7:30 pm in conjunction with Wednesday Gathering: First Wednesday. Easter Eggs! Saturday, April 7 th, 7:00 pm in the Kitchen All are invited to a fun evening of coloring Easter eggs with Arlington Street member Maria Cole in the church kitchen. Bring eggs to color and take home. Friday Night at the Movies Friday, April 13 th, 7:00 pm in the Clarke Room The Revolution Will Not be Televised is a remarkable film about the 2002 coup against Venezuela s president Hugo Chavez and his return to power 48 hours later. The filmmakers found themselves inside the presidential palace during the coup, giving them a unique inside view. The Friday Night at the Movies series presents films of social and political significance. The series began in the Autumn of 2006 and is sponsored by Arlington Street s Social Action Committee. See the Friday night movies on our big screen the second Friday of each month! Films are followed by a discussion. Free admission. Take a 30-gallon trashcan and layer it with dirt and vegetable waste, churning it frequently. It is vital that the mass is stirred to bring in fresh oxygen to avoid unpleasant smells.

6 Podcasting to a Computer Near You! Arlington Street Church s Sermons are Live in Cyberspace! In an on-going outreach effort, Arlington Street Church is proud to announce that our weekly sermons are available as a podcast. Each sermon will be made available mid-week and will stay online for at least two months. Arlington Street s podcast is a new and really simple way of receiving an audio file of our weekly sermons on your home computer. The nice part is that you can choose the sermons you want to hear again, or the sermons you missed, and listen whenever you want, forever, for free! Despite the name, you don t need an ipod, nor will Arlington Street Church actually broadcast anything. Follow the directions on Arlington Street s website. All you need is a computer with audio software (like the popular and free program itunes), and we ll will take care of the rest.
