7 Mission & Human Needs - Marti Peterson, Chair Thank you to all who have contributed to the Baldwin/Roberts Area Food Shelf Collection, Little Free Pantry Collection, Grace Place Collection, SCC Backpack Collection, SCC School Supply Collection, and Feets and Seats Collection. Your generosity is overwhelming and all the non-profits benefiting from your gifts are very appreciative when we deliver. Thank you to all who contributed to the School Supply collection. I dropped off four bags full of school supplies at the SCC Elementary School on Tuesday, August 21 st. They will keep these items in the school office and distribute to those in need at the SCC Open House and throughout the school year. Thank you also to Roger and June Lindquist who used their Thrivent Dollars to purchase school supplies which they dropped off at the school. Sunday, September 9 th, is designated as God s Work, Our Hands Sunday. We will be working in our community. If you know of anyone who needs help around their house or yard, please contact Deb Henry. It is also Food Shelf Sunday. Please remember our collection baskets as you prepare to come to church that day. We plan to cook another evening meal for Grace Place on September 27th. We cook the food and deliver in disposable dishes between 5 5:30 from which they serve themselves. We pray a meal prayer with them prior to leaving. Ask Deb Henry, Sarah Pommerening, Glenda Pratt, Marti Peterson, or Lois Worbes if you have any questions about serving at Grace Place. I think we are always moved by how fortunate we are when we serve there. We plan to pack meals at Feed My Starving Children in Woodbury on October 6 th from 3 5pm. We have signed up for 25 places. We would sooner add places than subtract so please prayerfully consider joining us in making a difference in the World. I would like to have a meeting with everyone who is interested in being a part of the Mission and Human Needs Team on Sunday, September 16 th after the service. Among upcoming items for discussion Grace Place Meals (how often do we want to serve?), Crop Walk (do we want to have a team to join the Kathy s in walking?), Moola for Milk (do we want to do again and designate money to cover Middle School Students with negative balances?), Feed My Starving Children (how often do we want to do this?), Thanksgiving Meals (Sarah s idea of what she would like to do), Secret Santa, other ideas. Blessings, Marti Youth - Christine Pommerening, Chair Thank you to all who donated, came and supported the youth garage sale and pancake breakfast over Heartland Days. School will be starting and we will be looking for opportunities to have a little fun and provide service opportunities. The Synod Youth Board had their meeting at Trinity this past month and will be hosting Godstock 2019 (High School Youth Gathering) at Metropolis Resort, Eau Claire in November. Let me know if you are interested in going. If you have work credits you may use those to offset the cost! The youth will be meeting the 4 th Sunday after worship! Hope to see you there! Excited to serve, Christine Thank you notes! Dear Trinity Lutheran Church, Thanks so much to the donor who gave money for us to go to Luther Point Bible Camp. I enjoyed all the fun songs, activities, and all my bunk mates! Going to Luther Point brought me closer to God and I got to learn more about God. I also got to try new things and meet new people. Thanks again for the donation. I look forward to going again next year. Thank you again! ~Torri Posey Dear Trinity, Thank you for the donation of money for my sister and I to be able to attend Luther Point Bible Camp. It was super fun! Going to Camp helped me learn more about God and Jesus. I look forward to going again next year. Thank you again! ~Tadd Posey Special Worship Highlights the month of September: September 22 & 23 Grace Upon Grace

8 Those present: Sue Frank, Betty Johnson, Ron Pratt, Kathy Jensen, Rachel McHenry, Rose Kuebker, Marti Peterson, Deb Henry, Sarah Pommerening, Laurie Posey, Christine Pommerening, Pastor Ralph Olsen, and Tim Haugen (in for Kelly Browning). Guests: Sally & Dan Doornink, Claire Yurek & Lois Worbes. Absent- Kelly Browning. President Rose Kuebker called the meeting to order at 7:07pm. Ron Pratt shared devotions about the gifts everyone has to offer. Guests were welcomed to ask questions. Lois asked about BOLT and Confirmation. BOLT starts on September 12 th and Confirmation will be starting in October. Secretary s Report- There was a question on July s unapproved minutes as to who was going to be signing the outgoing checks and taking care of the treasurer s position while we are looking for a replacement. The team consisting of; Rose, Claire, Sarah, Sally, and Ron, met and discussed this issue. Action: Betty moved to accept the report with a revision to the motion from last month stating to approve Sally Doornink as signer on the checkbook and Sarah to pay bills and enter financials into Shepherd Staff. Kathy Jensen seconded the motion. Motion carried. A revised motion from Ron to appoint Sarah to be the interim treasurer and direct the finance team to look for someone new to take over the position to be voted on at the annual meeting with Rose and Sarah being the signers on Trinity s checkbook. Tim seconded the motion. Motion carried. Treasurer's Report- Rose and Ron shared that the Finance team has met. They would like each team to use their vouchers with receipts attached, to be reimbursed for items they purchase. Sally and Bob co-share the Financial Secretary duties. It was recommended to have a three-year staggering term for the Endowment committee so one person would leave and a new person could be trained every year as has been done in the past. Claire recommended bringing back the building fund as a separate line item to keep better track of it. Since Sarah will be handling most of the treasurer duties, please try to plan out everything you need from her so there are no last-minute items she has to deal with. The finance team will be looking into the Mission Investment Fund, Endowment Fund, Youth Mission Investment Fund, and the youth account at Westconsin Credit Union and report on those at the September meeting. Memorial Fund-organ donations: Action: Ron moved to move the line items, whatever is needed most and cash to the undesignated memorial fund line and make a line item Handicap accessible account and disperse other line items to the appropriate accounts to have the organ fund depleted. Sue seconded the motion. Motion carried. An outside audit will be done. We will be getting bids to have this completed and follow up with this at the September meeting. 3M Stock- Ron shared that there are 100 shares valued at approximately $20,000 designated for the mortgage reduction. The finance team will be looking into how this money will be best used. Ron reported from the Stewardship team that they need budgets from each team to start the 2019 budget. They are due to Ron no later than the September meeting. Action: Sarah reported that all bills are paid to date. Sue Frank moved to accept the Treasurer s report. Ron seconded the motion. Motion carried. Pastor s Report- Pastor Ralph handed out a summation of the council members interviewed. Wedding and Funeral documents have been drafted so everyone knows what happens when these events occur. It has been brought up since the National Youth Gathering, being there were some controversial speakers there, about staying in the ELCA. We discussed this in length and with our current state of where we are in looking for a pastor and where the pastors come from no matter what synod you are in, that we should stay where we are as of the present. There will be a guest pastor on August 26th. Old Business Worship Band- Sue met with the Worship Band. They will continue to play for Trinity the 4th Sunday of each month. They have moved all of their items to a band member s house. Handicap accessible door- Laurie reported that the door will cost $13,000. It comes with 25 key fobs with each additional one costing $8. Adding the phone system would be an extra $3400 and the electrical expenses to install it would be around $1200. A plea will be going out to the congregation in the bulletin and newsletter. < Continued on next page. Trinity Council Minutes for August 13, 2018 (Unofficial)

10 Vibrant Faith at Home - What is Faith? By Paige Evers "Faith" is a word that children often hear but they may not understand what it means. This activity invites families to take a walk or look at nature together through the window. By talking about things that are happening unseen, children can start to understand that faith means believing in Jesus who promises to be with us even though we can't see him. After a walk or window time, family members can play a simple memory game indoors to talk further about the meaning of faith. Activity Plan 1. Say this prayer aloud to begin. Dear God, thank you for this time together. Be with us as we learn more about you. Help us grow in faith so that we can always pray with confidence in Jesus' name. Amen. 2. We just asked God to help us grow in faith. Let's talk about that word "faith." What does it mean? What is faith? Read aloud Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." In other words: faith is believing that something is there even when we can't see it. Faith is knowing that something is going on, even when our eyes can't see it happening. 3. Move to a window and look outside. Show your child how to use binoculars if you have them. You could also go for a winter walk and do the activity outdoors. Ask your child what she or he sees in nature in winter. Can they think of anything else that is going on outside in the winter, even though they can't see it happening? Some possibilities are: Moles are traveling through their tunnels underground. Turtles and frogs are hibernating deep in mud. Squirrels are nibbling on pine cones. Chipmunks are hibernating in burrows. Woodpeckers are resting in their nests in holes in trees. Some butterflies spend winter as a chrysalis, preparing to emerge as a butterfly in the spring. 4. Say to your child/family that on a quiet winter day, we know that things are happening in nature even though we can't see them. Faith is like that: it's trusting that Jesus is always with us, even though we can't see him. Faith is knowing that God loves us and helps us every day. Faith is believing that we are God's children and that God has good plans for us. 5. Go inside or move to an area where you can sit together. Play a simple memory game to demonstrate the verse from Hebrews: "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Place the objects you selected ahead of time on a tray or cookie sheet. Show your child the objects and name each one. Look at the objects for a minute or so and then cover the entire tray with a towel. With the items covered, ask your child to remember and name all of the objects that are on the tray. 6. Remind your child that you started the activity with a prayer that God would help you grow in faith. When you played the memory game, you had faith that those objects were still on the tray even though you couldn't see them. 7. The Bible tells us that Jesus is always with us. Jesus loves us and gives us new life every day. We put our faith and trust in Jesus. We want to grow in faith so we can follow Jesus and live joyfully as children of God. 8. Finish by saying this prayer. Dear God, it's winter and sometimes it looks like nothing is happening. But we know that you are at work in the beautiful outdoors. We know that you are with us, too. Help us grow in faith in Jesus. Fill up our hearts with Jesus' love. Show us how to share his love with others. Teach us how to serve family, friends, and strangers with joy. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
