Promoting Christian Unity The Lord Jesus Christ has proclaimed to us that he is, the Way, the Truth and the Life (Jn.14:6). In him we are called to unity with one another as Chris an believers, as followers of his way, as witness to his truth, and filled with the vitality of his life. We are called to follow him not only as individuals filled with his life, but as communi es of faith, called to witness together as church and as those who pray and work that the unity he willed might come to his church. We walk the way of service together in the world. We recognize that this can only be realized when we are one in the spirit and in the truth of the gospel. We recognize obstacles in the path toward unity but we believe that in the cross and resurrec on of Jesus Christ these can be overcome. We pray that we may, together, be faithful followers of his way. We witness to the dialogue of truth. There are real differences among Chris ans that cannot be hidden. But we know that the witnesses to the truth, those who have given their lives for the gospel, show us that what unites us is more than what divides us. The divine trinity informs our conversa on together, bringing us into ever deeper levels of conversion so that our common witness to the truth may one day bring us to proclaim a common vision of Christ s truth to the world. We pray that we may, together, be faithful witnesses to the truth. Our lives are already intertwined by our reverence for the sacred scripture, our prayer with and for one another and our a empt to live out the call to unity. I encourage all to spend personal me in prayer for other Chris ans, for the unity of the church and for the churches common life in witness to the world. We pray that we may, together, be faithful in living the gospel. Let us all make this week an occasion to deepen our following of Christ s will for the unity of the church, to share with one another our fidelity to him as the Way, the Truth and the Life and to learn more about the steps the churches are taking together to deepen their communion with one another in the life of the Spirit. Prayer for unity: O God, your Son prayed that we might be one as you Father are in him and he in you. Guide our steps, open our hearts and make us ready and able to follow Jesus, the Way and the Truth and the Life, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen. 3 22ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 2, STEWARDSHIP Offertory Giving - August Envelope $12,323 Online Giving 4,121 Total $16,444 From the Business Administrator: Is St. Pat s in financial trouble? "How can I repay the Lord for all his goodness to me?" Psalm 116:12 That was a ques on I took recently from a parishioner. I was glad to take his call. In my experience, people tend to call when they care. That s a good thing. The fact is, we ran an opera ng deficit in the fiscal year. That s very concerning. Quo ng our new pastor, Fr. Al, I have to say, I hate debt. In response to that deficit, St. Pat s cut some staff posi ons in the last couple of months. The purpose was to balance our budget for the fiscal year. Those cuts have been painful, and we re s ll adjus ng to them. However, those cuts have also led to a balanced budget. When we get final numbers for last fiscal year and current year budget, we ll report them. I expect those numbers next month. As for the Capital Campaign, those funds have been spent on projects listed in last week s bulle n, and we s ll have funds remaining in that account. No Capital Campaign funds have been spent on the opera ng deficit, and we have no plans to do so. Openings We have several job opportuni es at St. Pat s. One is for an Office Support Professional, to address front office needs. A second is for a Bookkeeper/Accoun ng. The third is for a Music/Liturgy Director. Holy Hour for Vocations Tuesday, September 11, 7:00 8:00 pm St. Therese, Deephaven All people of the Archdiocese are invited to par cipate in the Holy Hours for Voca ons, a new program sponsored by the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. This year s seminarian posters show the calendar of the Holy Hours for Voca ons that will be taking place at 7:00 pm on the second Tuesday of each month. Each month, the Holy Hour for Voca ons will take place at another parish in the Archdiocese. Come spend an hour with Jesus each month to pray for an increase in voca ons to the priesthood, consecrated life and diaconate. On Saturday, October 20 we will have a Polka band at the 5:15 pm Mass, followed by an Oktoberfest dinner in the Mahon Center. This event will be sponsored by the St. Pat's Men's Club. During my time here at St. Pat s I have worn a lot of hats I ve been a part me musician, full me musician, junior high youth minister, elementary faith forma on assistant, office admin support, Confirma on co-director, and probably others that I m forge ng. Many mes, in my years here, parishioners have asked what my official tle is, and I have shrugged and answered, I don t know. Somewhere along the line a name tag was made for me that calls me a Youth & Music Minister. I ve always liked that. I think it perfectly captures my passions, experience, and skills. I love music and liturgy. I love the way it can speak to us during the mass and how it can move us to experience the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. It is powerful to sing our praises to God together in our community. Music li s us up when we are happy and is with us when we are low, just as Jesus is. To me, music can be a very tangible expression of the moving Holy Spirit. But, I also love forming youth! I love sharing my faith with kids and walking along with them in their faith journeys. I love the look in a student s eye when they first understand that they are uncondi onally loved by the God of the universe, that God has a plan for them and they are important to this faith community at St. Pat s. The adult Chris ans in my life that took me to share those things with me changed my life forever and it is very life-giving and rewarding for me to pass that on. As of last week, I have begun transitioning into the role of the K-8th Grade Youth Minister, as Jaclyn Parell moves to 9th-12th grade and young adult ministry. This last week I started a Master of Arts in Ministry program at the St. John s School of Theology with a focus on Youth and Family Evangelization. While I care deeply about the future of the music and liturgy at St. Pat s, I believe that it would behoove me, as I study Youth Ministry to, well, minister to the youth! I intentionally use the word transition as I will continue to support the music ministry as we discern what needs and passions our parish has, and to give ample time for us to find the right person for that task. It has felt like a long Summer with the transi ons on staff, and as I have been preparing for my degree but, I feel revitalized as I lean into the K-8th ministry posi on.
