2 WELCOME TO BETHANY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Enter this Church not as a stranger, but as a guest of God. May the blessings of God rest upon you, both in your coming in and your going out. In my heart are vengeful attitudes and hardened prejudices. In my mouth are words of gossip or put-down. In my hands are gifts withheld and clung to in selfishness. In my life are regrets, unresolved tensions and forgiveness yet to be offered. 2

NEWS FOR THE BODY OF CHRIST Hearing Devices: There are personal hearing amplification devices that are available to use anywhere in the sanctuary. They are a small unit, similar in size to a smart phone. If you are interested in using one, please see one of the ushers. Baptism dates for 2012: June 3 July 29 September 30 November 25 Call the Church Office to request a date for Baptism. Communion dates for 2012: June 24 August 5 September 9 October 7 December 2 Children wanting to receive Communion must first talk with the pastors. Call the pastor to make an appointment. 3

4 Acolytes light the candles on the communion table symbolizing the start of the worship service and the symbol of Jesus coming into the presence of the worship community. They then relight their tapers at the end of the service and extinguish the candles. The light is carried out of the sanctuary symbolizing the light of Jesus Christ going out into the world where we are called to serve. We are truly blessed to have them as a very important part of our worship service. Music and Worship Team Register now to be a volunteer at the General Assembly from June 30 th to July 7 th on line at General Assembly is meeting in Pittsburgh. Need Scrip? Stop at the Welcome Center after worship or at the office during the week and purchase a card(s) for Home Depot, KMart, Wal-Mart, Lowes, Target, and many more cards are available. How about going out to eat after a busy day we have cards available for several restaurants. We even have cards for BP and Sunoco for vacation trips. You can also purchase Giant Eagle and Shop n Save cards. This is the easiest fundraiser you will ever participate in because it doesn't cost you anymore than you already spend. Thank you for supporting the mission work of the church through this program. Why carry cash? Buy Scrip cards and help support the Adult Mission Trips. Remember Father s Day, Graduation, showers, weddings, etc. will be here before we know it. Those who may have a greater need than others just might get discouraged from attending church because they have to walk so far. Attention All Bethany Hackers: The date for the Annual Bethany Golf Outing is Saturday, June 23 rd at Fort Cherry Golf Club. Contact Ron Gastgeb ( ) for cost and to reserve your spot. A sit down dinner with prizes will follow the golfing. The golfer s hymn is There s a Green Hill Far Away. Upcoming New Member classes are scheduled for June 3 rd and November 4 th. We look forward to personally meeting you at that time. Become a Volunteer Receptionist. How would you like to get away from your normal routine for a few hours each week? The Receptionist Team needs volunteers to answer phones at the desk as regulars or as subs. At present we have an opening for Thursday afternoon on a regular weekly schedule or for anyone interested in subbing. The hours are 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is possible to specify which hours and/or day s work best for you, if you don t feel you can commit for a regular weekly slot. The only requirements are a love of people and a big smile! 8 COMMUNITY EVENTS BRIDGEVILLE MEMORIAL DAY PARADE Monday, May 28 at 10AM. Once again Bethany Presbyterian Church will be participating in the parade. Volunteers are needed to march or perform in the parade, help with decorations and drive the vans. This year s van decoration theme will again coincide with our VBS theme of SonRise National Park. Please contact the church office if you want to help. The Pregnancy Resource Center of the South Hills and our friends from Community Care Pregnancy Center in Munhall are hosting the annual Walk for LIFE on Saturday, May 19 th at 10am in South Park. Our goal is to have 300+ walkers Be a Voice for Life in our communities. Help us take steps to reach this goal. Now is the time to register and start collecting your sponsors! When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love, But the greatest of these is love. 9

10 A MOTHER S PRAYER Lord, make me a better mother. May I speak to my children not only in words, but example. May I feed them not only bread for the body, but the Bread of Life. May I prepare them not only for adulthood, but discipleship. May I teach them not only how to care for themselves, but for others. May my love not be overbearing, but undergirding. When I stumble, Lord, pick me up When I fall in exhaustion, give me eagle s wings. When I fail, forgive me. When I am discouraged, restore me with your faith, hope and love.
