Postage Paid Pinedale, WY Permit # 6 Fall/Winter December 2016 Director's Diary Since we shared news with you in August, God has allowed many things to take place in the off season at Red Cliff! The roof of the Lookout Tower (rappelling/climbing) was completed by a past staff member, James Prindle, his business partner, Adam Leech, and Adam s dad. Their families helped in the kitchen during our Science Camp as well. Fall camps proved a great blessing to the Red Cliff staff and to those who attended. Ladies Retreat took a new twist by hosting a Fall Fair with booths featuring various themes from home decorating to foster care. Ladies enjoyed fair fare for lunch as well, choosing from walking tacos to hand scooped ice cream. Science Camp s Solar System theme was exciting for the children, focusing them on stars and planets in God s great universe. One professor who spoke for Science Camp, Art Raske, donated several butterfly displays to the camp. Finishing the fall season with our Mother/Daughter Retreat, which is formatted after our Heritage Quest, allowed us to do some activities and have some personal interactions that we would not have had with a larger group. At the end of September, a second Fall work group came to Red Cliff. This team of 10 men from Macon and Savannah, GA welded brackets on the Lookout (this is what the Tower will be called.), re-sided the South Lodge west entry way, insulated and sheetrocked the kitchen storage area, and built a lean to for the walk-in cooler compressor. Two of the men in this group, Tommy Harnage and Alan Tanner, came out to work at Red Cliff for the first time twenty years ago. We appreciate all that they and their crews have done over these many years of service.
2 Page 2 Red Cliff Telegraph Director's Diary: continued During the month of October, several on our team traveled to colleges to recruit staff for the upcoming summer. It was great to see former staff and campers at these schools. Please pray that God will send us the counselors, program team, and support staff we need. Also, in October my family had the privilege of being a part of a missions conference at Brookside Baptist Church in Milwaukee, WI. The conference was a great time of encouragement for us, and blessings to us from the church were over the top! Presenting Red Cliff Bible Camp as our family s missions endeavor for God s glory thrilled us! Our third and final fall work group came in mid-october. Caleb MacGill, Dick and Deirdre s older son, who is a contractor in UT, brought his family, his crew, and some friends to do some remodeling in Higher Grounds, our coffee shop. They installed new cabinets and beautiful red cedar counter tops! Additionally, the crew made some improvements to the MacGills cabin. God continues to use people to bless his work at Red Cliff. In addition to the excellent labor of all the work groups, four major gifts have been given: A 2001 Ford 15 passenger van in superb condition, given by a local family, enabled our interns to drive rather than fly on the staff recruiting trip. The van has already logged 6,500 miles! A 2015 Polaris Ranger, given by a family in Kansas, and pulled to Wyoming by the new van, has already been put to use at camp. 20 window shades for the Lodge, made and donated by a family whose company produces custom shades and blinds, are awaiting installment in the Alcove and the upstairs of the South Lodge. This family saw the need for window covers while on a work team missions trip to Red Cliff. New hand tools and ladders were provided by a man who was also with a work group. Seeing the need for camp to have some additional tools, he sent a check for the purchase of everything on a list that we sent to him. In this newsletter, check out the Opportunities to Help page and the Wall of Money page to see many other ways in which God has been providing for Red Cliff. Page 11 Red Cliff Telegraph Opportunities to Help Believing that God s people have both a need and a desire to give, we present these opportunities to help Red Cliff. 3 Wall of Money Fundraiser Kicked off at our annual Camp Meeting, this 5-month fundraiser provides many opportunities for people to help Red Cliff by the end of December This fundraiser is designed to multiply your contributions. The sum total will be over $20,000 going directly into the general fund of the camp. Perhaps you or your family would pray about using this opportunity as a missions project. Some others have sold furniture or a piece of equipment to generate the funds to give to this. However God directs you, we pray it will be a faith-builder and a fun experience. Give and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over Luke 6:38 The fundraiser works by your selecting an amount from the list below that you would like to give. $60 $65 $70 $75 $80 $85 $90 $105 $115 $120 $130 $135 $140 $145 $150 $155 $160 $165 $170 $175 $180 $185 $190 $205 $215 $220 $225 $230 $235 $240 $245 $255 $260 $265 $270 $275 $285 $290 $295 $305 $310 $315 $320 $325 $330 $335 $340 $345 $355 $360 $365 $370 $375 $380 $385 $390 $395 $405 $410 $415 $420 $425 $430 $435 $440 $445 $450 $455 $460 $465 $470 $475 Fall/Winter Page 3 Resident Staff Updates In this newsletter we will highlight Dick and Dierdre MacGill. Complete news regarding the Loftus and Heyboers will be posted on our website. Loftus Lifelines Psalm 145:16-18 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. With the Advent season upon us, we have been looking back over the past two months and realizing that God faithfully protects and guides the Loftus family. We are so thankful for your prayers for us!.. Spending the better part of October on the road gave us wonderful opportunities to trust in God s promises of his presence and help. One weekend in early October, Dean and Ike flew to South Carolina for a summer staff recruiting conference at BJU, while Lorie flew the next weekend to California for a ladies retreat at Wolf Mountain Christian Camp. Meeting in Milwaukee at the end of those conferences, Dean and Lorie took a 2-day get-away to reconnect before a weeklong... missions conference at Brookside Baptist Church in Milwaukee. The Biblical principle that perhaps impacted us most was that the harvest truly is plenteous because Jesus said so, and He speaks truth! Souls are ripe for the picking if we will share the gospel! Thankfully, all of our children...were able to join us for some part of that conference. Dear Praying Friends and Supporters, Heyboer s Highlights What a blessing and privilege it is to serve our God! Our family has seen God show His great mercy throughout this past year. We are so blessed to have each of you who pray and support our ministry. Please continue to pray that in this new year we will be able to have new supporters and, more importantly, pray that as we serve many will come to know Christ and grow in the knowledge of our Savior. This month we have been busy giving away Bible tracts all over town. Please pray that we will see people coming to know the Lord Jesus and attending church. Christmas is a busy season, yet what a blessing to be able to openly share the gospel with many. This winter, beginning in October, the guys have accomplished so many things! Our coffee shop was finished. The cabinet doors in the lodge are nearly done. The dry storage is getting the last few touches of sheetrock before painting. The snowmobiles and snow cat are being tuned up to serve during winter camps. To God be the glory for all that has been done! Our interns have been a huge blessing. Please pray for them and their needs. Pray for all of us to be a light of the Lord in this town. Find the rest of Loftus Lifelines and Heyboer s Highlights at: redcliffcamp.org/news/staff updates
4 Page 4 Red Cliff Telegraph MacGill s Meanderings Perhaps one of the most well-known verses in the Bible is John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth iin Him should not perish but have everlasting life. It was because of His love that He gave because He loved- He GAVE! When we become His children, there should be a desire to show Him we love Him. How? A familiar child s song says, What can I give Him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring Him a lamb. If I were a wise man, I would do my part. Yet what can I give Him? I ll give Him my heart! We may not be as wealthy as those wise men, kings of old. In fact, many of us may be better able to relate to the widow who gave her two coins into the offering. But God is well pleased when we give the best we can. We want to thank you for the different ways you continue to show the love of Christ to us as we serve in this ministry. Through financial support (sometimes given sacrificially), in encouraging fellowship, by fervent prayers on our behalf. The ministry at Red Cliff Bible Camp is one that would be impossible without your love for the Lord causing you to give in these ways. Once again, the past year was a busy one. Some of the activities included: January- began with repairs on equipment and grooming trails and preparing for the winter retreats. February- this last year we helped Tweakage events happen as needed as well as the Couples Retreats that typically happen this month. March- Men s Winter Retreat and Youth Retreat kept the days busy with continued equipment repairs. April- The weather began to change, and so did our activities. Preparations began for summer needs. Things must usually be done in town during this mud season at camp. May- Chuck wagon and milk can ministry meals fit in well this month along with visiting area churches. June- Staff training began! This year Dick helped Dave H. with some remodeling projects on the grounds. Dick also kept busy with gathering items in town and transporting them to Camp. July- Family Camp teen camp each week brings a new camp and areas to serve: gathering firewood (winter heat for our home), hauling out trash each week, and vehicle repairs (Do you sense a pattern here?!!). August- Summit Trails Unlimited usually occurs this month. If there is a base camp going on, Dick will often prepare meals in Dutch ovens for the hikers. We do Chuck wagon meals again if the schedule allows. Fall/Winter Page 9 I was surprised to know how much work needed to be done even when summer campers aren't here. Everything from working on the tower with work groups to working in the kitchen preparing food for them reminded me why I love serving the Lord here! It could start to be discouraging after realizing all we needed to get done before the snow season. But I was encouraged to see different work groups come and joyfully help us knock out some of the big projects. God has continued to show Himself strong in our behalf. In October we traveled to several different colleges looking for 2017 summer staff. Pray with us that God will send us the staff we need. After we got back from the recruiting trip, I moved into an apartment in town. I've really enjoyed having a place of my own, and I'm praying God will continue providing for me. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done before the upcoming winter retreats. It's exciting that with God s grace we will be ready for them! -Owen Best This Fall has found us as busy as ever, and it is incredible how close we are to the end of 2016! The summer was a challenging but fruitful time of ministry and growth as we transitioned into parenthood in the middle of a full summer camp schedule. God gave us so much grace as we made our extremely sleep-deprived way through summer s end and we have been able to catch our breath this Fall. In October the interns took a three-week road trip to recruit for Summer Staff 2017, and we are praying that much fruit comes out of that time! Phillip has been commuting to camp two or three days a week with a few other staff members to work on winterizing certain areas of camp as well as getting the winter equipment serviced and running for our fast-approaching winter retreats. The remainder of weekdays are spent working at the camp office in town: doing research for new program activities and planning for the 2017 camps. Adriana does camp projects from home as needed, working around Autumn s schedule and needs during the day. Autumn is growing into a spunky little bundle of personality, and we love being parents! -Phil and Adriana Loftus
5 Page 8 Interns Red Cliff Telegraph My internship has been going well. In October we interns took a road trip to recruit staff for next summer. I enjoyed meeting new people and encouraging them to come serve at Red Cliff. Since we ve been back, we ve been doing a lot of work at camp to get it ready for winter retreats, and we ve started our intern classes. Over the past few months, I ve been learning to appreciate Red Cliff Bible Camp even more as the work of God that it is. Meeting people who helped clear the land in the very beginning and watching work groups serve has shown me that God still builds things the way He did in Bible times through skilled people with willing hearts. Using different people from different places at different times, God has taken a strip of forest and made it into the camp we have today. Knowing how God has worked in the past gives confidence that God is going to continue to provide for every need and use Red Cliff for His kingdom. On a personal level, God has been teaching me to trust Him to provide for my needs. Being on missions support is very different than having a job where you know how much you are going to make every week, and the uncertainty of it all tends to make me anxious. But God has told us not to worry about our physical needs, but rather to seek His kingdom. When we are pursuing His goals, He will take care of the rest. It s been awesome to see how He s provided what I ve needed so far, and I'm learning to trust that He will continue to do so. -Holli Gibbs Fall/Winter Page 5 September During Ladies Retreat and Science Camp, Dick gathered firewood for camp, completed more vehicle repairs, and brought in supplies for Fall building projects. October- A work group put insulation in our camp cabin. Also, new cabinets were installed in Higher Grounds. What a blessing! Winter prep work included putting snow boards on lower windows at camp. November- Repairs were made on the pull sleds, and trees were cleared off the snow trail. On a personal note, the Lord blessed with the safe arrival of a new granddaughter. Josh and Laura are parents to Kimberlee Anne MacGill! Praise the Lord with us! December- Staff and interns travel in to camp via snowmachines. Snow trails are being made and repacked frequently. The snow cat will get more repairs and trail markers will be put up. Would you please pray with us about the following? All full-time staff and interns need provision for financial support. Snow levels for winter activities and as protection from summer fire season. Safety for all in travel and work. Strength for the day. Speakers, staff, and campers for each retreat or week of camp. That each of us would stay close to God and grow continually in Him. That we would show our love for Him in our service to Him. For our family God s continued work in each life. For the salvation of each grandchild. That the aging vehicles and equipment at camp would continue to run well until replacements are provided. Dick would really like to build another sheep camp to be used to house visitors both at home and at camp. The first necessary part is a bumper pull trailer, feet long. Please pray with us that we could find the trailer for this project. Serving that others might minister, Dick & Deirdre MacGill
