2 Pastors Pen 2 God Provides And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (NIV) One thing we all experience is what it means to need something. We have needs. Life is full of stresses that need to be managed. In May we celebrate our moms on Mother s Day. Being a mom is an awesome responsibility; we are in awe of how moms can do all the things that come with the job description! A few years ago, I saw this and it made me chuckle: If evolution is true, how come mothers still have only 2 hands? Moms know what it means to feel the need for help. I m reminded of two women featured in a Bible story from the life of the prophet Elisha (2 Kings 4). One woman is a widow. The only thing she had left was her children. She had no husband and no money. When creditors came to collect, they threatened to take her children as slaves to work off her debt. She needed money. The other woman seemed like she had everything. She had a husband, and was wealthy, able to provide Elisha a place to stay when he was in town. But she longed to be a mother; she needed a child. Two women with two different needs. What they have in common is that they took their need to God. Both went to God s prophet Elisha in search of the help they needed. To the woman who needed money, Elisha performed a miracle of providing a jar of olive oil that never ran dry. She knew just what to do with God s gift she set up a small business and sold the oil for money to pay off her debts. The wealthy woman was promised by Elisha that she would give birth to a son. Initially she didn t want to get her hopes up, but she did become pregnant. But becoming a mom wasn t the end of her need. One day her son was brought to her from the fields in need of life-saving intervention. She only knew one place to go to the God who had given her a son in the first place. The prophet Elisha came to her home, prayed to the Lord, and her son was revived. It doesn t always work out that way, but the deeper truth is that no matter our need, God has the power to meet it. We have a lot of needs. When one is met, another one seems to come along. We need God constantly, and the good news is God can handle our needs, never tiring when we call out with the next one on our list. In the 1870 s, a young wife and mother named Annie Hawks became overwhelmed with her regular household tasks and began to pray to the Lord for help. She sensed God s nearness and response, and she wrote down her prayer, which eventually was published as the hymn I Need Thee Every Hour. I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain; Come quickly and abide, or life is in vain. I need Thee, O I need Thee; Every hour I need Thee; O bless me now, my Savior, I come to Thee. How are you currently trying to find what you need? Is it working? If you need to, make a shift in your search in the direction of the only one who can provide for your deepest needs. Go to the God who provides. Joyfully in Christ, Pastor Kurt
3 3 summer bible camp Spring is finally here which means the best part of the year in Washington is closer than ever. Of course I m talking about summer time in Seattle, and I ve got a question for you? What makes your summer special? Is it camping, going to the beach, long hikes in cool forests, barbecues with family and friends, days spent at the pool? We all have activities and people that make summer meaningful to us, but have you ever been a meaningful part of someone else s summer? Well if you haven t, or if you have and would like to do it again Summer Bible Camp is here to help! Children attend tons of different camps during the summer, but SBC provides kids with a unique opportunity to learn about God and the Bible in a fun, interactive, and creative way. I ve talked to many kids who point to Summer Bible Camp or an experience like it as a formative part of their faith, perhaps it was for you too. This summer we want to continue that tradition and also reach out to kids in our community who might not be familiar with God or the Christian faith, but we need your help. Summer Bible Camp is a huge outreach last year we had almost 150 kids attend, which means we need lots of volunteers to lead and teach and be with those kids. Please prayerfully consider volunteering and allowing God to use you to reach and teach kids in our community. There are lots of ways you can volunteer or serve at Summer Bible Camp. A few ways are: serve as a group leader. Group leaders oversee and help lead groups of kids through various stations at Summer Bible Camp. Your main job is to hang out with and guide kids throughout the week. Another opportunity is to be a station leader. SBC features a rotation model where kids rotate through different stations each day. These stations include crafts, games, snacks, science, music, Bible stories, and more. If you aren t able to or aren t available to serve during the week of Summer Bible camp, there are other ways you can still help out. Children s Ministry is looking for donations for craft projects, snacks, and other parts of SBC, you can contact Children s Ministry for a full list of items. You could also help prep craft or decoration projects for camp or help decorate the church the week before Summer Bible Camp. This year Summer Bible Camp is Monday, July 9th Friday July 13, from 9 AM to Noon at North Creek Presbyterian Church. The Theme is Incredible Kids, and is all about us being superheroes and discovering our strength in God. I hope you ll consider volunteering at SBC, for more information and to sign up go to or the children s check in area on Sunday morning.

Hold babies Play with toddlers Read stories Show God s love in action What if there was a way to do three good things at the same time: lower NCPC s power bill for the foreseeable future, reduce NCPC s carbon footprint, and get a return on your investment? Guess what? We have such an opportunity... We have a unique opportunity to participate in a state and federal incentive program to provide a 92 kw solar system to power our church. A small group of members (10-20) would invest about $20k each With incentives they would recoup the investment in about 3 years The financial partners would form an LLC to actively manage the investment The incentive is active for one year from approval of our application by the State Sound intriguing? Join us for an informational meeting in the NCPC Fireside Room on Tuesday, May 23, 2018 at 5pm. The Solar Contractor will lead a conversation about the technical system, the legal process, the tax incentive, and the estimated investment Our basic schedule is: Gather investors and form LLC May 2018 Secure tax guarantees from state and federal tax authorities - August 2018 Finalize contract September 2018 Replace existing south-facing roof under solar panels August 2018 Finalize solar system design including City and State approval October 2018 Order solar components October 2018 Install 92 kw solar system November 2018 Questions?
