2 TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 27, 2017 Today s Gospel provides us with the most central scriptural reference for the Church s teaching on the primacy of Peter as the foundation of the Church. Who would have believed in the days of Jesus that Peter, a simple fisherman, would become the leader of the greatest Church in the world, the Holy Catholic Church? Who would have believed that Jesus would pick Peter, knowing in advance that Peter would deny knowing Him on three different occasions? Who would have believed that Peter, even while exhibiting bungling and flawed behavior at times, would still receive the favor and trust of Jesus. We know that Jesus believed in Peter because he knew that the Father had given Peter a huge grace and revealed to him that Jesus was the Messiah. Looking back, we can now see that God can achieve anything that He wants. We can see how He calls imperfect men to be instruments of His Divine work. We can see how He calls the uneducated to display the glorious power of His Spirit. We can see the love and mercy of God at work. Now, we can testify that indeed, the Spirit of God was at work. Why? Because the mysteries have been revealed to us. Today, we may not understand why certain things are happening in our lives. However, if we look at events that appeared mysterious to us five or ten years in our past, we may now perceive the mystery that was hidden from us at the time. We may now be able to see how we have spiritually grown from our life experiences. Although the Heavenly Father was mysterious in His ways at the time, He now makes His divine will known to us. This week, let us take the time to reflect on our past. Let us take the time to reflect on the mysterious ways of the Lord that have led us to where we are today. Let us take the time to perceive what our Heavenly Father has done for us so we may grow in the fruit of the Holy Spirit. And when our eyes are opened to the mysteries of the Lord, let us take a moment to thank Him for all that He has done for us, glorifying Him in His Most Holy Name. JCDA offers young ladies a great opportunity to engage themselves in spiritual growth, leadership, and service while they remain under the protective umbrella of our Catholic faith! 4 Like Peter in today s Gospel, we can find that when we open our eyes to see, our ears to hear, and our hearts to experience Jesus presence in our daily lives, God reveals himself to us. This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul enabled the poor to experience Jesus presence by assisting families, providing in food, for utility and rent bills, etc. Thank You! Monthly Meeting Our church senior group, the Texas Trotters will hold their monthly brown bag lunch meeting on September 1st after the First Friday noon Mass. (Ministry of Moms Sharing) is a ministry committed to the spiritual development of all mothers and is designed to support and affirm women at all stages of motherhood. The Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) course for the liturgical year will begin on Thursday, September 7th for adults interested in learning about or considering entering into the Catholic faith. The St. Martin de Porres Prayer Blanket Ministry will hold a work session on Thursday, September 7th from 10am to 1pm in the Education Center Great Room. Everyone is invited to join us in this rewarding labor of love. The F3 Men s Ministry is starting the Fall Session on Friday, September 8 th. 6 VIGESIMO PRIMER DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO 27 DE AGOSTO DE 2017 El Evangelio de hoy ofrece la referencia bíblica más relevante de las enseñanzas de la Iglesia en cuanto a la importancia de Pedro como el pilar de la Iglesia. Quién hubiera pensado que en el tiempo de Jesús, Pedro, un simple pescador, se convertiría en el líder de la Iglesia más grande del mundo, la Santa Iglesia Católica? Quién hubiera pensado que Jesús escogería a Pedro sabiendo de antemano que este conociéndole a Él, le negaría en tres ocasiones diferentes? Quién hubiera pensado que Pedro, aun así, de mostrar en numerosas ocasiones un comportamiento torpe y con faltas, recibiría la aprobación y confianza de Jesús? Nosotros sabemos que Jesús creía en Pedro porque Jesús sabía que el Padre había otorgado a Pedro la gracia divina y así mismo le revelo a Pedro que Jesús era el Mesías. Mirando hacia atrás, podemos ver ahora como Dios puedo lograr cualquier cosa que Él se propusiera. Podemos ver como llama a los instrumentos de Su Obra Divina hombres imperfectos. Podemos ver como Él llama a los menos educados a manifestar el glorioso poder de Su Espíritu. Podemos ver cómo funciona el amor y la misericordia de Dios. Ahora, podemos dar testimonio de la manifestación del Espíritu del Dios. Por qué? Porque nos han sido revelados sus misterios. Hoy, quizás, no entendamos porque ciertas cosas ocurren en nuestra vida. Sin embargo, si miramos atrás a hechos que nos parecieron misteriosos hace cinco o diez años, ahora quizás si percibamos el misterio que no percibimos en su momento. Quizás, ahora seamos capaces de ver cómo hemos crecido espiritualmente por medio de nuestras experiencias por la vida. Aunque mirando atrás el Padre Celestial fue misterioso en Su manera de actuar, Él nos muestra ahora Su voluntad divina. Tomemos tiempo esta semana para reflexionar sobre nuestro pasado. Tomemos tiempo para reflexionar en las formas misteriosas en las que el Señor actúa para guiarnos hacia donde estamos hoy. Tomemos tiempo para percibir lo que el Padre Celestial ha hecho por nosotros para que podamos crecer como fruto del Espíritu. Y cuando por fin podemos ver esos misterios del Señor, tomemos tiempo para darle gracias a Él, por todo lo que ha hecho por nosotros, para glorificarle a Él en Su Nombre más Sagrado.
