Today's Gospel speaks to us about how Jesus performed the first miracle in his public ministry of changing water into wine.

Jesus deliberately changed dirty water into wine to teach us something about his mercy.

During this year of mercy we ask Jesus to transform us into something greater than our sins. ************************************************** We have sent the St. Jude and St.

Now that our debt has been repaid, we will use any funds we receive in our collections over operating expenses to address deferred maintenance items and to save up for future building projects.

2 Today's Gospel speaks to us about how Jesus performed the first miracle in his public ministry of changing water into wine. A part of the miracle that is often overlooked is how Jesus changed not any kind of water into wine but ceremonial washing water. That would be our equivalent of dirty water that we have washed in. Jesus deliberately changed dirty water into wine to teach us something about his mercy. If Jesus can work that kind of miracle with dirty water then he could work a greater miracle of helping sinful humanity be transformed. During this year of mercy we ask Jesus to transform us into something greater than our sins. ************************************************** We have sent the St. Jude and St. Martin de Porres statues that are normally in the church to a professional statue repair shop since both statues were badly in need of repair. Please know they will be back in the church and looking like new. Our sacred vessels that we use for communion were also badly in need of repair and have been sent to professionals for refinishing. These are the first of several maintenance projects as we work over the next few months to take care of deferred maintenance items. The more we are able to save up now, the less we will need to borrow in the future. I will be in Chicago this week for my spiritual director program so we have Communion Service and No Confessions Tuesday through Friday. May Jesus transform us all by his mercy, Fr. TEXAS TROTTERS On January 26th the St. Martin de Porres senior group, the Texas Trotters will go to the Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin to view the movie Cantinflas. This is the untold story of Mexico's most beloved comedy film star, from his humble origins on the small stage to the bright lights of Hollywood. Spanish with English subtitles. A free lunch will be served to seniors after the film. We will meet at 8:15 a.m. at the church and carpool to Austin. For more information contact Donna Miller, In the Gospel today, at the wedding feast in Cana, Jesus reveals himself to his disciples and they began to believe in him. Everyday God gives us signs of His love and so we also can respond in faith and trust. Your gifts to the Society of SVdP becomes a sign of God s love to those who are suffering. You give them a reason to believe and trust. Join us for our next SVdP meeting Tues, Jan 26 pm in the Education Center if you would like to serve our brothers and sisters in our community. As Vincentians, we volunteer at the Food Pantry welcoming visitors, giving food to the hungry and ensuring we have enough to support the 40+ families who visit each Monday. Several Vincentians serve on teams on a rotating schedule answering calls made to the SVdP extension 209 and visiting families eligible for assistance based on policies set forth to distribute donations judiciously. Know that we can only help if the person who needs help makes the phone call. If you know someone in despair that could use support, we can assist with rent/mortgage, utility or water bills. Reassure them that all information is kept anonymous and there is no shame in asking for help when in need for basic necessities of life. The name will be listed in the bulletin. We ask for a $5 stipend per Mass. Sacrament of Baptism Parents who wish to have their children baptized must attend a Baptism preparation class. Children of non-parishioners may be baptized here. Nonparishioners must bring a letter from their pastor, giving permission for the Priest or one of the Deacons to baptize their child. Parents must also show proof that they have attended baptismal classes either at their parish or at St. Martin s. Only one Godparent is required but two are recommended. A Godparent must be a fully-initiated practicing Catholic. Sanctuary Candle A Sanctuary Candle burns in the Church and the Chapel to indicate the presence of our Lord. The candle burns for 14 days and then is replaced by a new candle. If you would like to donate a candle in memory of a loved one or as a thanksgiving offering ( on the occasion of In honor of, ) please contact the parish office.
