1 Bethany Community Church, 201 Birch Avenue, Grandview, Washington February, 2018 After the discussion at our annual meeting, we thought everyone would be interested in the following guidelines. If you have questions, the Benevolence Team will be happy to answer. At present they are: Pastor Mike Clark, Kathy Ellertson, Maxine Ballinger, Jean Eakin and Dave Ballinger. Bethany Community Church Benevolence Guidelines Elibigility Members and regular attendees of Bethany Community Church Friends of Bethany. Walk-in candidates (local or transient). Presentation of request Requests are to be in written form. Application forms for members and friends of Bethany are available at the church. Forms for walk-in candidates are available through the Grandview Ministerial Association. Level of Assistance 1. Assistance will be available for up to $600 per family, per year, for members and regular attendees. 2. Assistance will be offered at a maximum of $200 per year for friends of Bethany. 3. Walk-in candidates will be eligible for vouchers and agency referrals provided through the Grandview Ministerial Association. They can access this source once a year. 4. It will be recommended to members and friends of Bethany that they take part in education classes on financial counseling as necessary. 5. Walk-in candidates will also be offered a bag that will include basic toiletries, information on agency help, and information on Bethany Community Church. Payment of Assistance No payment will go directly to individuals. All payments will go directly to a vendor. In the case of walkin candidates, they will be eligible for vouchers through the Ministerial Association and handled through the Grandview Police Department. Review Process 1 Bethany Community Church will maintain a benevolence Team of up to five members whose purpose will be to meet with each person, review the situation, and make a determination for level of assistance. 2. The Team shall include the church pastor and a minimum of one church elder. A minimum of two(2) Team members will review each application. 3. Funding will be determined by the Session through the annual church budget. 4. This Team will report regularly to the church Session. 5. The Team will encourage candidates to participate in education classes focused on financial counseling to promote future change in their situation.

The food was outstanding and Dave Ballinger was very efficient and kept the meeting moving as he filled in for Pastor Mike. The following were elected to be on the Nominating Committee: Polly McKinney(from Deacons), Dale Burgeson, Marv Kragt, Gay Brewer, Terry Drollinger. The Elders and Deacons will be having a Retreat Saturday, February 3 rd from 9 am to Noon. Pastor Mike, Gretchen and Janet will share information from the ECO gathering in Houston. There will be a separate time for the two groups to meet and discuss the coming year. The Worship Team has suggested that we have Communion by Intinction every other month. This method is easier for the preparers and for the servers. The Worship Team is also asking for everyone that has announcements to give these to the Lay Assistant ahead of the worship service. Thanks. HOW GREAT THOU ART It was such a thrill to hear everyone singing this wonderful song last Sunday. It is maybe the only song that is very old but is still very new. This song became popular during the Billy Graham Crusades. The original Swedish lyrics of How Great Thou Art were written in 1885 by a 25-year old Swedish pastor, the Rev. Carl Boberg. The words were first published under the title of O STORE GUD (O Great God) in In 1907 it was translated into German by Manfred von Glehan and published as Wie Gross Bist Du (How Great Art Thou). In 1927, I.S. Prokhanoff published a Russian translation in Moscow. The Rev. Stuart K. Hine, an English missionary, found a copy of it in the Ukraine, and he and his wife began singing it as a duet in their evangelistic meetings. Some time later, in the inspiring mountain scenery of Sub- Carpathian Russia, Rev. Hine was moved to translate the verses into English. After Mr. Hine s return to England, he sang the three verses at Gospel meetings during World War II, and added the 4 th verse in 1948.

3 Bethany s Store Bethany s Store is now up and running. We have a great supply of most items for adults and some for kids. If you know of someone who is in need of warm clothing, please contact Jean, Danny, or Sue. One of us will meet them at the Church almost any day to help them make selections. If you have clothing to donate, you can leave it in the office with Jean or outside the door upstairs. It is the room at the end of the hall labeled Sunday School office. We are still in need of underwear in all sizes for men, women and children. If you would like to make a monetary donation for this, we could shop for underwear as needed. Thank you all so much for your generosity!! What a blessing it is to be able to help people in need! Sue EASTER CHOIR Please join us to sing for the Lord at Easter time. We will rehearse Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. beginning February 21. Love INC Love In the Name of Christ 2017 Annual Report 2017 was another Year of Growth. The cries for help increased dramatically, perhaps because more of the community knows about us. Thank you for partnering with Love in The Name of Christ to extend God s Kingdom in Yakima. Erika and Casimiro graduated in February of She told us: We were desperate and stressed out. I wanted to save money and had no idea how to do it. I was looking for help to get out of debt, someone to show us how to manage our money. During the graduation ceremony, Erika said, Now we have hope! I grew in my faith and spiritual life also. I didn t expect that but I m so thankful. This is just one of the 813 families you touched this year. We have been in our new location three years now. Thank you to those who invested in this ministry center.

4 CHILDREN S CHURCH for children CHRISTIAN EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES Ages 4 to 4 th grade. Teachers will be using Hands-On Worship. SUNDAY SCHOOL children will be having lessons from Hands-On Bible led by Maxine Ballinger. Adults will study All Things New by John Eldridge for three weeks and then begin a Lent study A Journey Through Lent.
