3 From the Desk of our Pastoral Associate: About our Liturgy On this, the Second Sunday of Easter, we continue to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This time of celebration is called the Easter Season and is celebrated for 50 days or eight Sundays, ending with the Feast of Pentecost (This year it will be celebrated on May 20 th.). During this time the first reading will deviate from the norm of being taken from the Old Testament and come from the Acts of the Apostles, recording for us the faith of the early Christian community, how they received the Spirit and then were empowered to carry on Jesus mission. We will hear about this in the readings how the new life of Jesus resurrection re-created a people The Easter gospels are a marvelous progression: the first three Sundays of Easter are appearance accounts of the resurrected Jesus; the fourth Sunday of Easter is Good Shepherd Sunday when we are assured of Jesus continued care and love; the fifth through the seventh Sundays of Easter prepare us to be disciples, who receive the Holy Spirit and carry on the ministry of Jesus; the eighth Sunday is Pentecost on which we celebrate the giving and receiving of the Holy Spirit. In these gospels we move from celebrating the resurrected Lord to being given the power (the Holy Spirit) to do the works of Jesus. Yet, our seasonal focus is not simply on empty tombs or images of the risen Christ, but on the experience of resurrection, that of the early Christian Community, as well as our own. New life in dead places, that is our story. Ordinarily we think of death as a once in a lifetime experience. But actually, death is a rule of life. Before we breathe our last, we will have a whole series of dying experiences: a parent or a friend dies, we lose our health, our dream, our home, our job, our marriage ends sadly. Everyone knows what constitutes real tragedy, and everyone knows that in tragedy, life as we have known it passes away. Not a complete dying, but in the midst of tragedy we FEEL like death. The rest of life looses its flavor, and one is overwhelmed by what has been taken away. Out of such tragedy two things are certain: we recognize that life will never be the same again, and we either remain dead or choose to become more alive than ever before. These life experiences prepare us for our final dying when we believe that death will not be the end of our story, that we will live forever! We call this cycle of dying and rising the Paschal Mystery and it is the heart of what it means to be a Christian. Gracefully the Church gives us seven full weeks of images and stories that encourage us, challenge us, to have HOPE. When your life, or the life of another, looks like it is dead, look for life. It is out of such experiences that we personally, and as a community, decide not to live like we are dead but to be more alive than ever before, a taste of eternal life, God s gift to us through Jesus. Thank You! Last week we celebrated Holy Week, the high point of our liturgical year celebrating the heart of our faith. It is a week for all of us to recommit ourselves to what it means to be a follower of Jesus. That was most visible as we renew our baptismal promises on Easter Sunday. One of the most impressive aspects of this celebration for the parish of Saint Timothy is the number of parish members, who took an active role in making it all happen. This year, Holy Week 2018, over 150 adults and children took an active role. What a testament to this parish not just going to church but being CHURCH! Thank you to all those who attended as well. Your presence is no small witness to your belief in Jesus and that participation in parish life is important for you and this community. Thank you one and all. Peace! Easter Peace and Blessings! Pat Piano, Pastoral Associate Baptism Preparation: All those having first babies baptized are asked to attend an informational class. Our next class will be held this Monday, April 9 th, at 6:00 p.m. in Saint Timothy Middle School. Sunday Readings, Study and Conversation: Every Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. in the Rectory there is a group who look at the readings for the upcoming weekend, study them and discuss how they relate to daily life in We are not scripture scholars, and everyone is welcome. Consider joining us for a very lively and informative hour. RCIA: What does it mean to be a Catholic? Have you ever thought about becoming a Catholic or learning more about the Catholic faith? We welcome inquiry and are happy to meet with anyone to offer suggestions about how those questions can become reality. Attention Parents: If you have a child in the 4 th Grade or up, and would like them to be Baptized, be prepared to receive the Eucharist (Holy Communion), now is the time to move forward. Homebound Pastoral Care: If you or someone you know would like to receive Holy Communion at home or while in the hospital, please call us. We have a team of care givers, who are most willing to be of assistance. For more information on the above ministries, please contact Pat Piano at Thank You from Father LeBlanc On behalf of the Parish Staff, I would like to Thank You for your Easter cards and greetings this year. In the joy and promises of Easter, may the Risen Jesus bless and know us as we continue to build His kingdom in the hope of sharing in its fullness one day with Him and our loved ones! Happy Easter! Father Alvin J. LeBlanc, Pastor

Outreach Committee Sharing and Caring Opportunities April Monthly: (1) Collecting money to benefit Well Wishes for Uganda to purchase needed medical equipment for the Nkozi Hospital on April 21 st & 22 nd (2) South Park Inn Supper on Sunday, April 22 nd opportunity to prepare food or serve the food Weekly: Toiletries for the Homeless, Socks for the Homeless (Men, Women and Children), Food (nonperishable) for the Catholic Worker House. Well Wishes for Uganda: On April 21 st and 22 nd, the Outreach Committee will hold its annual International Fund Drive to benefit Well Wishes for Uganda. In recent years, parishioners at Saint Timothy have helped to house families and provide goats to people in Haiti, to build a well and renovate a school in Uganda, and to purchase much needed medical equipment in Haiti. The Outreach Committee asks for your generosity again this year, as we raise funds for essential medical equipment for Nkozi Hospital in Uganda. Nkozi Hospital is a nonprofit hospital, owned by the Archdiocese of Kamapala, and managed by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The hospital is lacking in so much, but the people there try their best to provide care to anyone who comes through their doors. Currently, the operating theater light has broken down, and the doctors are using a portable light which sometimes goes out during operations. Your donations will allow them to purchase a new operating light, and will most assuredly help the people of Uganda! Please give generously. South Park Inn Suppers: Back by popular demand from our parishioners (who LOVED doing this in 2016 & 2017): we are preparing and serving Supper for the South Park Inn Shelter in Hartford (a shelter for men, women and children) on Sunday, April 22 nd! This is an opportunity for us to Feed the Hungry. This opportunity is open to all parishioners to participate either in preparing or serving food. Please sign up in the vestibules after Mass or contact Diane Whittemore at whittemorediane@yahoo.com or call her at Thank you!
