Praise God from whom all blessings flow! No Room At the Lot The Holy Family experienced no room at the inn. We have a similar challenge with our parking lots at Christmas, so we re asking for help in making our newest guests feel welcome. If at all possible, park as far away as you are able, leaving the best spots for our newest guests. Please consider even using the high school parking lot on Christmas Eve and for the Christmas Festival. Thanks for keeping the Christmas spirit! Prayer School with John Straiton Wednesday Mornings in the Prayer Chapel Dec. 7-28, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Join Pastor Straiton for a five-week Prayer School. Our goal is to increase and enhance the power and practice of prayer. Along with presenting a fresh perspective on the purpose and practice of prayer, you will also learn how to pray a Daily Prayer Liturgy created specifically for St. Andrew s. 4 Family and Children Ministry DOCK Children s Education DOCK (Disciples of Christ Kids), our children s education program. Children can sign up and join anytime. Classes are available during worship services on Saturdays and Sundays, and Wednesday evenings during Confirmation. We require registration for each child as well as a new registration each school year. December DOCK Theme: Manger Tales For Advent the kids will hear the Christmas story from the unique perspective of the manger animals: Doug the Donkey gives Mary a ride, Clara the Cow shares her stable, Sam the Sheep was minding his own business in the fields, and Cody the Camel carrying the Magi and following a star. December Bible Verse: Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. -Luke 2:11 Children s Sports and Rec R.O.C.K. Basketball: Mondays, Dec. 5 - Feb. 13; 5:30-6:30 p.m. For Girls and Boys Grades Kindergarten - 2 It s not too late to join for this season! R.O.C.K.: Recreational Opportunities for Christian Kids. This league is designed as a noncompetitive, skills-based basketball program with an emphasis on Christ-centered team play. Children are taught the value of character development and how it relates to living in Christian community. Register online at saintandrews.org > Register. Volunteer Coaches Needed: R.O.C.K. relies solely on parent participation. R.O.C.K. Coordinator, Team coaches or Co-Coaches needed additional assistance needed for each team with a ratio of one coach/assistant to five kids. 5 World-renowned Preacher To Lead Worship Jan. 7-8 Internationally acclaimed speaker Dr. Barbara Lundblad will be the guest preacher at St. Andrew s worship services Saturday, Jan. 7, at 5 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 8, at the 9, 9:30, and 10:30 worship services. One of our key initiatives at St. Andrew s is to promote leadership, and key to that strategy is to strengthen preaching both here and throughout the ELCA, stated St. Andrew s Lead Pastor Mike Carlson. We believe that Christ meets people in a very unique way through worship, and that when great preaching effectively articulates the Gospel of Jesus Christ, lives are changed and set free. Dr. Lundblad is Professor of Preaching at Union Theological Seminary in New York City and is highly regarded around the world for her teaching, speaking and preaching. Seminary Sampler Thursdays, Dec. 15, 7-8 p.m. Great Hall Ever wondered what someone learns in seminary? Would you like to experience the technology that is being utilized for online learning? In December, Deacon Erin Morris will be offering this class in cooperation with Wartburg Seminary and their faculty. Come and learn Intro to Lutheran Ethics with Dr. Craig Nessan and Theology of Mission. Young Adult Winter Sampler Trip Feb. 23, 4 p.m. Feb. 26, 4 p.m. $198 $100 deposit due by Dec. 1; final $98 due by Jan. 10.
