1 Blessed Trinity Catholic Church 958 E. Tuscola St., Frankenmuth, Michigan Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ August 25 & 26, 2018 Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Parish Mission Statement We, the members of Blessed Trinity Parish, share a common bond of love given to us through the Mystery of the Blessed Trinity. As the loving Father does, we welcome and support everyone who enters our faith community. As His Son exemplifies, we humbly strive to be a learning, giving, caring, and teaching parish eager to serve, evangelize, and give generously of ourselves to others. As the Holy Spirit inspires and leads us, we are a faithful, prayer family that worships God through the many gifts and ministries with which the Lord has blessed us.

But put it all in perspective: in 1807 people were celebrating the first-ever commercial steamboat service, which carried passengers 150 miles - in 32 hours! Step back even further when the first Christian disciples trekked for days, weeks, and months to bring the Good News to lands unknown. While we d all appreciate a little less time in line and a little more leg room, make sure you re attentive to opportunities to be kind, generous, and gentle with your fellow passengers along the way. As the poet John Milton put it, They also serve who only stand and wait. All are welcome in this place! General Information If you would like to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, please call the parish office for more information. 3 Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3 August 26, 2018 Thoughts from our Pastoral Administrator. In our second reading this weekend, we find a common wedding from Ephesians. Though Paul s language may sound dated, sexist, or offensive in today s world, the context of Paul s time - 2,000 years ago - beautifully equates the relationship between husband and wife as it relates to Christ and the church. Just as the couple are to honor each other and grow together as one peacefully, so is the church to become one with Christ. In today s world, we call on husband and wife to be subordinate and obedient to each other, to show reverence for one another, love each other, bear and raise children together with the love of God, and support the church and church families. We are called to support one another, care for one another, lift each other up, forgive one another and be faith examples for our children. As husband and wife, we are called to care for those around us and look out for one another, especially the elderly, poor, and needy. Christ sacrificed for each of us and for the church, as couples are expected to also do today. He lovingly supports the church, which includes each of us. Just as husband and wife are united in the holy bond of marriage, so Christ is one with the church and we are one body with each other in Christ. Written long ago, Paul s message means as much today as when it was first written. In the end, Paul states, He who loves his wife loves himself. Deacon Larry Deford Let your gentleness be known, so all may know the Lord is near. Do not worry; reach out in prayer, in prayer. Stay with all that you have learned, the peace of God will be with you. Whatever is true, whatever is just, all that is pure and pleasing and all that is worthy of praise: think on these things. And the peace of God, the peace of God beyond all understanding will guard your hearts, and guide your minds in Christ Jesus. 4 Blessed Trinity Catholic Church Page 4 Frankenmuth MI Do you have questions about the Catholic Faith? Are you thinking about becoming Catholic? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process that welcomes anyone who has a desire to know more about the Catholic Church. It is not a program and there is no cost for this process. It is a time to discover the beauty of the Catholic Church and grow in your relationship with God. RCIA is tailored to welcome and respect each person on their unique journey of faith. There is no set time frame; everyone will proceed at their own comfort level with the help and support of our RCIA team. Persons enter the Catholic Church when they are ready, with many adults who are not baptized entering the Church at the Easter Vigil. Those who are already baptized are received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church at various times throughout the year depending upon their faith background and their readiness. For more information about RCIA, please contact Karen Smith at the parish: Catechists Needed If you would like to serve your parish as a catechist in grades Faith for 3 s to 5, please speak with Karen Smith by calling At least three catechists are needed for our 2018/2019 program. Please consider volunteering! Small Group Study If you re interested in having a better understanding of the upcoming Sunday Mass readings, please join the small group which will meet on Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, beginning on September 19. We ll read and discuss the readings for the following Sunday while touching on their historical context as well as their application to our daily lives. If you d like to be part of this group and want more info, call Karen Smith at the parish or Carol Kager at Book Club The next meeting of the Blessed Trinity Book Club will be on Tuesday, October 9 at 11:00 a.m. We ll discuss Hillbilly Elegy, A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J.D. Vance. All are welcome! Our sponsor of the week is: Tiffany s To view this ad, see the back of the bulletin. Please patronize our sponsors. They make the bulletin possible. All Are Welcome Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live. A place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive. Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace; here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place! Let us build a house where love is found in water, wine and wheat; a banquet hall on holy ground, where peace and justice meet. Here the love of God, through Jesus, is revealed in time and space; as we share in Christ the feast the frees us: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place! Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and visions heard; and loved and treasured, taught and claimed as words within the word. Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace, let this house proclaim from floor to rafter: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place!

5 Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 5 August 26, 2018 Youth Ministry News Tonight/Sunday is our Luau Party for all youth in grades 6-8 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. We ll have DJ Paetz entertaining us, smoothies, snacks, and a photo booth! It s a night to welcome and celebrate our newest members. Bring your friends for an evening of fun. Our high school leaders are hosting this event. It s Outdoor Movie Night for all BT families on Monday, August 27 at 8:30 p.m. We ll watch The Greatest Showman under the stars. Bring your lawn chair and we ll provide the popcorn, drinks, and snacks. Our BT young adults are moving on to jobs or leaving for their first, second, third, or fourth year of college studies and we wish them well. You are always a member of BT, and we d love to have your mailing address in order to send you event information for your age group. Please me with your info! Grades 7-12 youth should watch for a schedule of fall events and gatherings in this week s mail. I hope you ll try and make many of our offerings as your schedule allows. We re all busy, but I believe the faith community we build when we join together is so very important. The mentoring our older youth share with our younger ones encourages all to stay involved and in touch. This sharing is what makes Blessed Trinity! The Reeves family is moving back to North Carolina this week. During their short time in Frankenmuth, Jacob and Alondra were altar servers, VBS volunteers, attended youth events, and Alondra portrayed Mary in the Children s Epiphany Pageant. They will be missed! We wish the entire family many blessings. Thank you for being part of our BT community! We make the Church what it is. What are you going to do to make it YOURS? Kathy Cramer ~ Director of Youth Ministry kcramer@blessedtrinityfrankenmuth.org Household Items to Donate? Thanks to all who bring in clothing and household donations for Emmaus House. All items are picked up on Monday mornings by a parish volunteer who delivers them to Saginaw. We ask that you only bring in two bags or boxes of donations per week. We cannot handle a load of garage sale leftovers. If you have more than this, please call Emmaus House for pick up at: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Sponsor Sanctuary Lamp Parishioners are invited to make an offering for the candles used in the sanctuary lamp (the lamp that burns 24/7 before the tabernacle) which reminds us of the presence of the Risen Lord in the Blessed Sacrament that is reserved in the tabernacle. The light comes from a large candle placed in a red glass container and burns for seven days. The candle is generally replaced on Friday or Saturday each week throughout the year. If you would like to make an offering of $50.00 for these candles in honor or in memory of a family member, friend, neighbor, etc. please call the parish office to find out which weeks are available (names will be printed in the bulletin for the designated week).

A friend, relative, or neighbor - or a colleague, church member, customer, patient, care receiver, or client - receives the devastating news of a cancer diagnosis. During such a difficult time, we want to reach out with support and care, to offer help and hope. But how? Dream big dreams. Pray big prayers.
