3 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3 October 28, 2018 Thoughts from our Pastoral Administrator. This past week we have all experienced the loss of our great shepherd. Last Sunday, I served as Deacon of the Eucharist and assisted in the celebration of the 5:30 p.m. Mass at St. Mary s Cathedral. Presiding for the liturgy was Most Reverend Walter Hurley, Apostolic Administrator, who will assume the administrative duties for the Diocese of Saginaw until we are blessed with a new bishop. Sunday and Monday brought crowds of faithful to the cathedral to honor Bishop Cistone; folks gathered in this time of sorrow to laugh and tell stories of him. Ever present was the Fourth Degree Honor Guard from the Knights of Columbus. It was great to spend this time consoling and comforting each other and to be with the Cistone family in remembering how much Bishop had touched our lives in so many ways. Monday evening was the Vigil Service, which included personally-chosen readings by Bishop and Fr. Pete Gaspeny (who presented us with a memorable homily). Fr. Pete was priest at Midland s Blessed Sacrament Parish when Bishop Cistone arrived in Saginaw. I remember being in the social hall with many others and the school children when Bishop arrived on his get-toknow-you tour. After greeting all, there was time for questions. One child hollered out, What does a Bishop do? Welcome to Saginaw, Bishop! We have all reaped the benefits of what Bishop Cistone had accomplished in his short nine years here. Please read his obituary on the diocesan website for additional information. The Funeral Mass and Committal Service on Tuesday were amazing. It was fitting to have Bishops from around the country attend and hold service in the renovated cathedral. The renovation was a large task for Bishop Cistone and a statement to the Saginaw community of the diocesan interest to be a part of the city renaissance projects. Bishop Cistone believed in and reinforced the ideals of deep faith. He was commitment to Christ and the cross, to stewardship and peace, and to the love and devotion of Mary. He cared deeply for all and was committed to the poor, the hungry, the homeless, and the marginalized. The evening before liturgies for priestly ordination or ordaining a transitional deacon, Bishop Cistone would have a Holy Hour of Prayer. This past year, I helped serve meals after Holy Hour and Bishop loved spending time with his priests - laughing and sharing stories - and in the end, reverently praying for those to be newly ordained. Bishop committed his life in service to the Lord and to all of us in the Diocese of Saginaw. As God calls each of us to serve Him and those around us, Bishop Cistone never waivered in his service. He gave his human life so that we may live; he leaves a legacy of renewed deep faith, humility, and service, while giving his all to the Lord without reservation and trusting in God for all that was needed. Good and faithful servant, may you rest in the peace of Christ always and forever. Amen. Our high school youth will be leading this event. Your cost is just $5.00 with a nonperishable food item; cider, donuts, and a glow necklace is included. Friends are welcome. See you at the Weiss Farm Corn Maze at 5450 Weiss Rd. from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Watch for a postcard coming your way with all November gatherings and events. It ll be a month of serve as we are a thankful youth community. (This is the only reminder you will receive!) Thanks to all youth who helped celebrate Respect Life Month last Sunday evening. Beautiful baby blankets were made for the Underground Railroad (see pictures at right). The youth also gathered to search for bible verses that related to respecting life and made posters with those verses. It was a great gathering, and our parish community should be very proud of our youth! Class of 2019 ~ please start looking for these pictures: baby, Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist. I plan to create a display of these photos by the church entrance and would like to have them by December. Thank you! Katy Schuler found her name in last week s bulletin. Will Ben Cleveland find his this week? Keep current on youth events and other information at Blessed Trinity! Be sure to like our Facebook page at: BTC -Youth! Kathy Cramer ~ Director of Youth Ministry kcramer@blessedtrinityfrankenmuth.org Pray. Pray for family. Pray for friends. Pray for you. Pray for us. Pray for them. Pray again. Never stop praying. Pray. Our sponsor of the week is: Valley OB-GYN Clinic To view this ad, see the back of the bulletin. Please patronize our sponsors. They make the bulletin possible.

5 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 5 October 28, 2018 Faith Formation News Thank you to Barbara Shaheen and Valerie Sulfaro for answering the call to be catechists. Our parish children are very blessed to have you in this ministry! Fr. Pat O' Connor gave a wonderful blessing to our candidates last Sunday. This was followed by our first preparation session. It was nice to see families working together making banners (see pictures at left). We ll celebrate All Saints Day with Mass on Thursday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. Parish children will have active roles in Mass as lectors, greeters, altar servers, and hospitality ministers. Some of the children will be dressed as saints and will be available to answer your questions at a social following Mass. In preparation for the All Saints Day Social, please help us make Saint Toothpicks to put into cupcakes on Monday, October 29 at 6:00-7:30 p.m. Help is also needed for set-up and serving. Please contact Pam Daily at the parish if you can help in any way. Thank you! Karen Smith ~ Pastoral Minister Interim Director of Faith Formation ksmith@blessedtrinityfrankenmuth.org Join the Hospitality Ministry All parishioners from 9th grade to adults are invited to serve as Hospitality Ministers at Blessed Trinity - it s a great way to get involved! We provide welcoming greetings to parishioners and guests. We assist with seating, offertory collection, presenting the gifts at Mass, and direction of communion flow. We distribute the weekly bulletins and offer farewell greetings. We also provide security in the church during weekend Masses and other events. Your time commitment would be minimal as you would be scheduled to serve at approximately one Mass per month (your preference). Men, women, young adults, and families are welcome to assist in this ministry. For more info, please contact me! Jim Williams ~ Hospitality Minister Coordinator Jim.williams@avispl.com or We always imagine that if we felt strong, we would not mind having to carry the Cross. But the whole point is that we should not feel strong. It is our weakness that very often is our chief cross.

6 Blessed Trinity Catholic Church Page 6 Frankenmuth MI May God help us focus on what truly matters and give us the insight to discern what is right. May God fill our hearts with love and may that love determine the course we take and shape all our interactions. Don t Take Flight at Signs of Adversity In 1776, when a new California mission was named in honor of John Capistran by Junipero Serra, perhaps it was to honor a vital, hardworking, and optimistic fellow Franciscan of the 15th century when church and world were torn by everything from plague to heresy. Amazingly energetic, John was a force for renewal and fidelity in a fiercely divided church. Parish Men s Club members celebrated Corporate Communion last Sunday at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, then hosted a coffee & donut social. And, then there are the swallows. They return to the abandoned mission every spring and leave around this time. They, too, were optimists when they began to settle at the mission after a local innkeeper destroyed their unseemly muddy nests. Ask yourself: can I hold on to the joy and optimism of a dauntless swallow or a dedicated reformer, even when things do not unfold as I d like? Need Prayers? Call the Parish Prayer Network with your prayer needs and concerns: Ginger Hall at or Nanci Lyon at You can also submit prayer requests on our parish website. When you visit Blessed Trinity during the week or when you come to weekend Mass, be sure to write your prayer intentions in the Book of Life in the back of church. Help Wanted ~ the Birch Run/Frankenmuth Knights of Columbus needs someone to run Bingo Concessions at their Monday and Thursday Bingos (4:00-9:00 p.m.) Call for more info.
