3 A Message From Our Pastor Dear People of St. Patrick, These 50-days after Easter until Pentecost is a wonderful time of grace and renewing our Catholic Faith. What I believe as a Catholic founded upon the teachings of Jesus Christ to the Church. The words of God as found in the Sacred Bible. The beliefs and actions of the first Catholics after the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The First Reading from Acts of the Apostles: We find the Christians gathering together and sharing in each other s needs, and serving the poor as well. They shared in the Eucharist as they ate their meals. Here we are at St. Patrick Catholic Church doing the very same thing, right now, today. The Gospel of John and the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession), for those who say I have no need to confess to another person, needs to read this Gospel of the Lord. Jesus said to the Apostles, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. and when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained. The Catholic Church has adhered to this teaching of Jesus from the beginning, during the Protestant reformation to present day. Today is Divine Mercy Sunday, it all boils down to God the Father forgiving sins of those who seek forgiveness and striving to overcome their sins. His forgiveness is possible because his beloved son Jesus died to accept all our sins and redeem us. His son Jesus gave to the apostles and the priests of the church with the power of ordinations to dispense this mercy and forgiveness in the name of God our Father. God Bless, Fr. 4 News ~ Information ~ Events Altar Society News Gift Shop The Gift Shop will reopen in May and will be open for the First Holy Communion Retreat on Saturday, May 3 from 9:00am - 12:00pm. It will also be open after the 5:00pm Saturday Mass and after all the Masses on Sunday, May 4. We have many nice First Communion items and a few commemorative items for the canonization of Pope John Paul II. We also have a nice selection of children s books on all religious subjects, including Mass books. We still have adult Sunday Mass missals available. Thank you for your patronage which greatly assists with the needs of our Church. Worldwide Marriage encounter In today s gospel, Christ says, Peace be with you. 5 Life at St. Patrick A Great Historical Day in the Catholic Church Today, Pope Francis is canonizing two (2) Saints who were Popes in the life time of many of us. Do you remember Pope Pius XII, John 23, Paul 6, John Paul I, John Paul II, and of course Pope Francis? Well, John XXIII and John Paul II, are now Saints, declared as Saints in heaven by the Catholic Church. Each of the two Popes have made a great impact upon the Catholic Church founded by Jesus Christ so many centuries ago. Both of these two Popes, as well as the others I mentioned have shepherd the Church well and we should all be grateful to God for their leadership. Remember, the words of Jesus to Peter, You are Peter and upon this rock I build my Church. From Peter to Pope Francis this message of Jesus has been carried out. Thank you - Thank you - Thank you Altar Servers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers, Choirs, Musicians, YLI Members cooking dinner for visiting priests at Penance Service, Youth Group and the Volunteers that help clean the church. Special thank you to the Altar Society Art and Environment Committee who made our church so prayerful during Lent, Holy Week and Easter. Thank you to the Counters who counted all the collections and of course our wonderful staff of St. Patrick Parish. Thank you Hospitality Committee for sponsoring our Parish Blood Drive and of course all those who gave blood. It is a time to rejoice and be grateful. Month of May - May is the month Mary. During the month of May let us try to pray the rosary, bring flowers to Mary, pray and ask Mary to help bring peace and healing to our world. Prepare to honor and celebrate Mary at the parish Flores De Mayo on Saturday, May 30 at 6:00 pm. Please remember to vote concerning Doctors Medical Center and our Rodeo-Hercules Fire Department. 6 New birth, new life, good news! These themes run throughout today s scripture readings. The first reading from the Acts of the Apostles describes the joyful early days of the newly born church, when members devoted themselves to instruction, the communal life, the breaking of bread, and the prayers. The passage from Peter s first letter echoes that joy, and assures those who now believe though they never saw Jesus that their faith will lead to their salvation. But amid all the joy, the Gospel reading calls us to sober reality. Not everyone can believe so easily. Even an apostle can doubt this astonishing news of the Resurrection.
