3 A Message from our Pastor Dear People of St. Patrick Parish, On this Third Sunday of Advent, we sing out from our hearts, Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Indeed the Lord is near. We the people of St. Patrick Parish are celebrating Simbang Gabi, the 9 day Novena to help prepare us to truly celebrate Christmas, the remembrance of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For 9-days, we come to the 5:00am Mass, praise God, receive Holy Communion, go to the hall to share in a great breakfast and enjoy being together as the People of God. Tomorrow night, Monday, December 18 at 7:00pm, 10 priests will be here at St. Patrick Church to minister the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) after that, all those ugly sins we have been living with will disappear - How can we not help but be singing with joy? The third candle of our parish advent wreath is burning brightly and helping to lead us to the crib at Christmas. As rejoicing people, we are also forgiving those we need to forgive and, we are asking to be forgiven by those who also need to forgive us. We are happy because we as Christians refuse to let the evil, hate and all the bitterness in our world pull us down into despair and gloom. Jesus our loving, happy Savior is coming to be with us. Today, we baptized Catholics shout out like John the Baptist, I am the voice of one crying out in the desert, make straight the way of the Lord. We love God, accept His loving Son Jesus, and know that no matter what, sin and evil can not cut us off from God if we love Him, trust Him and follow the ways of the Lord. The happiest people in all of Rodeo/Hercules should be the People of St. Patrick Parish, filled with love and joy awaiting Christmas. God Bless, Fr. Larry Young Pastor

4 News ~ Information ~ events Altar Society Christmas Flowers Religious Give Thanks Envelopes for Christmas flowers are now available at the entry of the church. Minimum donation is $10 per name. Flower donation names can be made for any occasion. Please make checks payable to St. Patrick Church. Envelopes may be placed in the collection baskets during Mass or dropped off at the Parish Ministry Center. The revised deadline to submit your request is Monday December 18 in order to be included in the Christmas bulletin on December 24. 5 Life at St. Patrick Parish Christmas Mailing - This past week you should have received a mailing from the parish with a letter, Christmas schedule and a Christmas Offering Envelope. This mailing goes out to all registered parishioners. If you did not receive a packet, copies are available at the doors of the church. Balanced 2018 Budget - Thank you to the Parish Finance Council who worked so hard to prepare a balanced parish budget for The Pastoral Council approved the 2018 budget on Monday, December 11. We will have more information on the budget after Christmas. Our Parochial Vicar - Thank you to all who have been so welcoming and kind to Fr. Michael Nufable as our Parochial Vicar. Fr. Michael has been working hard to learn about the parish and to truly help us all draw closer to God and the practice of our Catholic faith. Rice Bowl Grants - This past week, the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl Grants were given and our St. Patrick Church, Rodeo/Hercules, St. Vincent de Paul Society received one of the grants to help in our ministry to help our brothers and sisters in need. 8 REJOICE Isaiah proclaims t ly good news to us! God s coming brings not sadness, g ilt, fear, wrath, or condemnation. No, God s coming is a source of comfor and joy. Saying it once is not enough, for today s readings are f ll of joy. Mar s Mag ificat substit tes for our psalm today, and our second reading encourages us to rejoice, to give thanks and praise. This is the root meaning of the Greek word for eucharist. We are urged to rejoice and give thanks, because the coming of the Lord brings joy, healing, liber, release, vindication.
