William Bill Pollack A CHANGING CHRIST WORLD...A CONSTANT In case you have not noticed; the world is changing. Changing faster than we seem to comprehend and becoming more dangerous than we want to experience. The news around our world becomes more and more frustrating as we see nations afflicted with terror attacks, school shootings, massive refugee influx, economic unrest and moral collapse. To many, this is a time which calls us to abandon our hopes and dreams. To most, it is a time that challenges the deepest core of our faith. What is going on? Nothing that God through His word has not already prepared us for in these last days. Jesus spoke to our current crises when He said, When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened there will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines. These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. He was, I believe, preparing His disciples (and us) for the difficult days that will shake the foundation of our belief. Many will come in My name, saying I am He! and will mislead many, Jesus says. (Mark 13) We have been warned. So what now? How do we face the uncertain days that lie before us? As we begin the search for a senior pastor who will shepherd us in the days to come; what are we to do? Do we run and hide? Stick our heads in the sand? Throw up our hands and say, All is lost! We can. Some will even propose this is exactly what we need to do. I believe there is another way. I would like to consider myself as a realist and not an alarmist when I maintain a focus on current events in light of Scripture. I am a realist, because quite simply, I believe God. Yes, I am alarmed about the direction our world, nation and Church seem to be headed. In my opinion, we have lost our direction and purpose. We have taken our eyes of the One who has called us onto the angry waves and bid us Come! (Matthew 14) We have listened to the voices of those who would mislead us. In this I do admit my fear. What have I done; what am I doing that creates a sense of unbelief? Am I an agent of the lie that tells us we are doomed? I pray not. So what can I propose for us in these days? Only what God has proposed in ancient days that are true this very second. God s promises are true. So I want you to hear, I will never leave you nor forsake you ; I am the same yesterday, today and tomorrow ; I am the Way, the Truth and the Life ; Peace, be with you. Hopefully, you get the idea. God loves us, holds us, cares for us and comforts us. He also challenges us to keep our eyes on Him, who is always the same. In the midst of a changing world, this is great advice!

2 Christian Women s Fellowship News Mary Ann Metts, Secretary On Tuesday, May 8, twelve ladies met in the church fellowship hall for our May meeting. After our opening prayer, we shared prayer concerns and praises. Peggy gave a devotion from Guidepost based on Matt: 6:33 - Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. In all situations, we are to keep our eyes on Jesus. He is always available to us. Mary Ann reported that we had 57.5 spaces sold at our craft show. It was a great success. Thanks to all for your prayers, help and support. Brenda H. reported the amount we took in from the craft show and the expenses. We are so blessed to be able to help so many in so many ways. Our 2 item of old business was that on June 3, 2018, our women will recognize our 3 high school graduates during the 11 o clock service. They are Josh Adkins, Richard Barbee, and Courtney Rogers. Good job, graduates! Last item of old business was that our Father s Day gifts have been received and will be given to our fathers at both services on June 17. For new business, we discussed purchasing new carts for our chairs and tables. We all agreed on the purchase after checking into prices and kinds available. We also discussed purchasing new bows for Christmas. We will contact the Worship Committee to see if they have enough funds budgeted for this. If not, we will allocate money for them. For everyone s information, Woman s Day service has been changed to August 12 due to a conflict with the speaker. We agreed to give Pastor Bill and Nanette a monetary gift for a retirement gift. It will be presented to him on May 27, at the luncheon after services. In Brenda Pike s absence, I gave a report on our Christmas fund. Brenda H., gave the CWF treasury report. The CWF agreed to feed the Futrelle Family on Sat., May 19, as our service project. The CWF will be purchasing the meats for it. Ladies will be furnishing vegetables, desserts, etc. On June 5, we will be hosting a Ladies Night Out. It will be at the Jacksonville Golden Corral at 6:30 pm. The church van will be available for any who want to ride it. If interested, you need to be at the church by 5:45pm. ALL LADIES, young and older are invited. The food is good and the fellowship is great. Our next meeting is July 10 with Ann Jones as hostess. After delicious refreshments served by Brenda Huffman, we closed with prayer. Worship Committee News Terry Jarman, Chairman Our God is an Awesome God and He is still in control! As we move forward with the absence of a minister, we plan to use different lay people inside and outside the church to bring our morning sermons and messages. Please be in prayer for our church as we continue doing God s work during this transition. We will be recognizing and observing the following in the month of June during both worship services: We will show a media presentation of our Graduates on June 3. We will recognize our Fathers on June 17. We will observe PTSD Awareness on June 24. Everyone is encouraged to wear something teal. 3 Samaritan Shoebox Brenda Huffman While attending a workshop for Operation Christmas Child, we learned a few pointers on how to make items for the shoeboxes out of things we already have at home. We may find some of these items as clutter, something we have more of than we need, or items we simply don t need, or want anymore. The following are things you can provide to help us cut cost for the supplies we need to pack our shoeboxes this fall. All items can be put in the green collection box in the vestibule. Ribbon (piece or whole rolls) Small Silk Flowers Pony Beads Lace/Cord (to string the beads) Straws Plastic knives Pipe Cleaners Key chains Charms Old jewelry Small Puzzles Small Stuffed Animals (washed) McDonald s Toys Yarn (To make Yarn Dolls) Old Coloring Books (We can tear out the uncolored pages & make coloring folders) Old Sunday School Materials (Pages we can cut to make puzzles) Foam Shapes (Balls, Flowers, Squares, Circles, etc. to use for tic-tac-toe game) Pens, Pencils, Small Pads, Reusable Cloth Bags, etc. (items handed out from job fairs, home & garden shows for adv.) Small Crayon Packages from Restaurants Dental Floss & Toothbrushes (When you go to the Dentist ask for extras, tell the Dentist why you want extras. They may give you a whole box) Old men s button up dress shirts to make girls dresses, skirts, shirts, and small purses Old T-Shirts (we are making balls out of them, they can be torn, have holes, discolored, etc.) The next work night for making the balls will be June 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. No skills are needed. You will be putting strips of material in stacks of 10 and tying 100 into 1 stack. Thank you for your continued support. It is a part of Franklin Graham's ministry that we have the opportunity to participate in. Please note the Calendars provided indicate the scheduled items for each week. Drop the items purchased in the boxes provided in the vestibule & fellowship hall. If you prefer not to shop, but would like to participate, I would be hap py to accept cash or check and shop for you. Please let me know by Oct. 1, 2017 if you would like me to shop for you. Everyone is invited to come help pack all items received into the Shoeboxes. on Nov 5, 2017 in the CLC Building. If you prefer to pack your own Shoebox please bring them to the Fellowship Hall by Nov. 5, They will need to be sent out with all other boxes. REMEMBER: Candy, Gum, Toothpaste, toy soldiers, warlike-weapons, camo items (clothing, etc.) super heros, such as Spiderman or Nija Turtles, liquids, vitamins, medicines or chocolates. 4 FCC Welcomes New Member We are excited to welcome our newest member here at FCC! Corallynn Grace Apodaca professed her faith in Christ and was baptized by Pastor Bill, Sunday, May 27, during the 11 a.m. worship service. Cora is the grand-daughter of Betty Apodaca. Please be in prayer for Cora as she continues her faith journey with us! Breakfast! We invite you to breakfast in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday, June 17, at 9:45 a.m. We are looking forward to nourishing our bodies with this delicious country meal that is planned for us. We will be serving grits, eggs, bacon/sausage, and pancakes. We hope to see you there! S.T.A.R.S. NEWS We welcome our S.T.A.R.S (55 and older) to join us Sunday, June 24, for an Ice Cream Social in the Fellowship Hall directly following the 11:00 Worship Service. VBS It s that time of year again! This year, we invite you to join us for Vacation Bible School June Dinner starts at 5:45 p.m. and Bible School starts at 6:30 p.m. Please come join us as we travel through time, and learn that God was there in the beginning, now, and always. We will offer games, snacks, and crafts. This is NOT just for children. This is a family event! We have classes for ages birth to 17 and !! Adults have fun too! THANK YOU for your CHEW generosity! We did it; thanks to you! What a joy to have been in this ministry together on behalf of the children and families within our Richlands school district! You are awesome! Donate Your Christmas Cards We continue to collect the fronts of Christmas cards, if there is no writing on the inside, for next year s Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. You can bring Children s Outdoor Fun Day The children are invited to a day of fun in the sun to splash and play on June 9 from 10am-noon. Ages: Birth Bring or wear your swimsuit under your clothes. The Christian Women s Fellowship invites you ladies out to a dinner at Golden Corral on Tuesday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. We do have the Church van reserved. However, you may meet us there, if you would like. Billy Graham Library Trip The Christian Women s Fellowship will be hosting a trip to the Billy Graham Library on Saturday, June 9. Church Van reserved and we will have some personal cars as well. It is a 4.5 hour drive there. We plan to leave the church approximately 6:00 a.m. and return back to the church approximately 8:00 p.m. If you have any further questions please contact Breda Huffman. YOUTH NEWS! (Rising Middle Schoolers and High Schoolers) The youth have a trip planned for Sunday, June 10. We will be going to Altitude Trampoline park for a day of fun and pizza at CiCi s. The church van is reserved. We will be meeting at the church at 3:30pm. Please provide $16 per child for jumping fee and socks, as well as money for pizza.
