S Through January 25, 2015 (Week 30) Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place where he prayed...he told them, Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come. Mark 1:35,38 In today s Gospel we see a perfect example of stewardship. Jesus gives His time to do all that God wishes healing the sick and preaching. Yet, Jesus also makes time to be alone in prayer. It is through spending time with God in prayer, that we find the strength to do what God wishes us to do. Be sure to find time every day to be with God. 5 D C, A! Ordinary Time Expressions of prayer: vocal prayer, meditation, contemplation How do you pray? The Church has identified 3 expressions of prayer: vocal prayer associating the body with the interior prayer of the heart; meditation engagement of thought, imagination, and emotion to deepen our faith; contemplation a simple gaze upon God in silence and love. The feature common to all of them is attention to the presence of God in the heart. Do you have a favorite expression of prayer? C R H P Registration for the coming Spring retreat weekends is now in progress. This is a wonderful opportunity to renew your relationship with Christ and to connect with other parishioners. Mark your calendars now for this coming event on June 1-5, L G W After his time spent alone, Jesus was very certain of his purpose. We, too, can be more aware of God s purpose for us if we but make the time to listen. Copyright 2014, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. T W G J 7:1-4, C 9:16-19, M 1:29-39 During Jesus ministry he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons. This is the case in today s Gospel. Jesus fulfills the vision of Psalm 147: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Jesus knew, however, that he couldn t possibly heal all the illness in the world. No matter how many people he cured or how many hours he ministered, there always would be more suffering people like Job who craved his healing touch. His primary mission was not to rid the world of all suffering. His purpose was to preach the coming of the reign of God that heals, yes, but ultimately transcends and transforms earthly suffering. With Paul, Jesus could have said, Woe to me if I do not preach that good news. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. H I Y M LIFE I LT on twitter LIFE NIGHT TONIGHT! 10 W Y W? Jesus was starting to become very popular, at least with the ordinary people. They had seen how he had cured the sick and cast out demons. Jesus knew the people would not understand this and try to proclaim him as their king. Jesus had no intention of living as a worldly king, in comfort and riches. In fact, he came to free people from needing wealth and power. Popularity and wealth do not interest St. Paul, either. When he preaches the gospel, the good news of Christ's resurrection, He specifically refuses to be paid for his preaching, to show that he will be rewarded by Christ. So what do you hope for; what is your goal in life? Do you only feel secure when you have saved enough money and invested it wisely? Do you need other people to make you happy? Or at least a few hundred Facebook friends? We can follow Paul's example of love for all people no matter who they are. Paul's love was not to make others like him. He genuinely wanted to bring the good news of God s love to them. Let us ask the Lord to fill us with his love, so that we can help each other to hear the good news. Tom Schmidt, J.S. Paluch Co.
