I used to have the opinion that excitement and expectation were qualities reserved for children...a fleeting emotion that flies away when we finish school and discover the working, bill-paying world. On Wednesday, April 25th, the Wednesday School children presented their Easter Program during the worship service. It s always great to see children jumping up and down, singing their hearts out as they make melody for God. During Children s Time as well, our young people run up to the chancel steps, sit awhile, then run back to their places...they are always full of energy, it seems. I remember many years ago when the Mars rover Spirit made its landing on the surface of Mars, I witnessed grown men and women jumping up and down, hooting, hollering, cheering and giving each other high-fives as they gazed in wide-eyed wonder at a bunch of dull looking rocks. This same frenzy happened again when the second rover Opportunity landed in a crater on the surface of Mars. Who says adults can t get excited! Upon further reflection, however, I found this excitement to be very interesting. We live in in a created world of incredible beauty and scenic wonder, yet we get excited looking at rocks. We live in a world filled with God s spirit and opportunity, yet more people than ever are on anti-depressants. You and I live in a wondrously created world nestled within an infinitely varied tapestry called the universe, all spoke into form by God; yet we are bored with what we have, longing to have our expectations fulfilled by something out there. None of this is anything new of course, it s part and parcel of being human. When my folks were growing up in Divide County in northwestern North Dakota, going to Alamo was a big deal for them. They found their expectations fulfilled there. People in Alamo went to Crosby...the cycle continued upward. Today, people in Williston go to Minot, people in Minot go to Bismarck, people in Bismarck/Mandan go to Fargo, and people in Fargo go to Minneapolis. This level of satisfaction theory is nothing new...we tend to not be satisfied where we are; we need to move up a notch or two. We seem to have high expectations of God...what can God do for me today? I wonder if we might be better served and in turn our Lord better served if we would look at expectations the other way...what does God expect of me today? What is God s level of satisfaction with me? When Jesus was baptized in the river Jordan, the voice of God declared You are my Son, the beloved; with you I am well pleased. As baptized people of God, God claims each of us as a beloved child, created for life here and now, at this moment in time, for a reason. And what is God s expectation of us? To be his hands and feet, mouth and ears, voice, mind and heart. As we focus on Jesus Christ, we find our satisfaction in being part of his body; created, redeemed and set free in the world to be excited about this wonderful thing called life! We will not have coffee hour during the summer months on Sundays. Saturday, June 16 th at the Garrison High School Gymnasium. Viewing from 8:00-9:30 A.M. Auction begins at 10:00 A.M. Food Entertainment Fellowship Fun Please plan to join us! This summer our office will close on Friday s ONLY at 3:00 P.M. Office hours for June, July & August will be: Monday-Thursday: 8:00-5:00 Friday: 8:30-3:00 Do you have any old eyeglasses lying around? If you do, we have a collection box in the Narthex for you to dispose of them. Throughout the year, Lions collect used eyeglasses and deliver them to regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers (LERCs). Recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in low and middle income communities where they will have the greatest impact. Thank you to Dakota Community Bank & Trust for grilling, providing all the food & serving LAF on Thursday, May 17 th. It was greatly appreciated! We are looking for 4-5 people to help us out with The Banquet at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck on Saturday, June 9 th & July 21 st from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Please call the church office if you are interested at Thank you!

Credit card authorization: Still in process as the application needed to be resubmitted. Sanctuary Celling Fans: will be discussed at the May 2 nd pre-construction meeting. New Business *Education/Youth Support Staff Solution: A Hiring Committee has been formed and will meet Sunday April 22nd at 2:00 PM. A description of responsibilities and credentials has been updated; the position will be opened soon with a goal to have someone hired by July 1, 2018.

Reports Pastor Lee: 2 Baptisms 2 Funerals 1 Wedding 0 additional Committals Pastor Lee presided at the communion services held at the two Prospera communities in Mandan. He attended the Western ND Boundaries workshop. First Lutheran of Mandan hosted the event. Pastor Christina: 4 Baptisms 1 Funeral 0 Weddings 0 additional Committals She attended the Western ND Boundaries workshop. Attended Region 3 classes and continues to mentor intern Bethany. Attended informational meetings for the youth gathering. Will be attended the pre-assembly workshop June 1 & 2 at the Ramkota Inn in Bismarck ND. Stewardship: No report Worship: No report Parish Education/Youth: The Easter/Spring program for the Wednesday school kids will be April 25 th. April 29 th is the last day of Sunday school. The confirmation kids will have small group celebrations on April 25 th. Vacation Bible School is set for June and registration is now open. Hosts for the Camp of the Cross counselors will be sought. The youth mission trip and convention is June 24-July 2. The First Lutheran Mission Endowment Fund gave a $6, donation for the youth to attend the National Youth Gathering in Houston. Evangelism and Outreach: LAF is well attended with 300+ attending. The outreach to the congregation for the Mandan Public Schools Emergency Funds raised over $2, Property and Management: The next pre-construction contractor meeting will be on May 2, They will also evaluate the parking lot for possible repairs. Correspondence A thank you card was received from Marilyn Ryberg for the Senior Easter service and meal. A thank you card was received from Sheila Christianson thanking Pastor Lee & Pastor Chris for their prayers and visits. Golden Ages memo for the donation of $62.32 for the senior meals program and Missouri Slope memo for the donation of $ for the M-Club. Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Hosts Golf Event Please make plans to join us for a new and one of a kind fundraising event on June 8 th! The 1 st Annual Hillview Cup will take place at Golf Etc. on June 8 th and you don t want to miss it. This event is a team long drive contest where teams of four will have 30 minutes to drive a golf ball as many times and as far as they can. The total cumulative yardage will be totaled to determine the event winner. The event runs from 9am-6pm using the golf simulators at Golf Etc. Teams will sign up for 45-minute time slots after they register for the event. Join us for prizes, food and fun all to benefit a good cause!
