1 January 2018 Cumberland Plateau Baptist Association The Cumberland Plateau Baptist Association is a network of Churches committed to evangelizing, teaching and ministering to our World. Lantana Road Baptist Church preparing Christmas goodie bags for prisoners of Bledsoe County Correction Facility. The church ministered to over 400 inmates by serving them a Christmas meal and a goodie bag.

Formerly Hodges Ministry A ministry aimed at putting Christian literature and bibles into the hands of people around the world. Christians all across the USA people just like you - send us bibles, Sunday School materials, books, etc. We send them to ministries in many poor countries to distribute freely to people hungry for the Word of God. These are materials that would have sat collecting dust on shelves or been thrown away. Now it's being used to reach souls for Christ, encourage and build up the Church, and the raising up and training of leaders to shine the light in dark places. Our Mission: Love Packages exists to glorify God through the distribution of the Word of God to hungry hearts throughout the world. WMU Scholarships applications are now available on line, go to TMBM website and search WMU Scholarship applications. Tennessee WMU awards approximately 20 to 30 scholarships annually to Tennessee Baptist students in Tennessee colleges, Southern Baptist seminaries, and Kings Academy. Scholarships are granted to full-time students who are taking the equivalent of 12 credit hours per semester, who meet various qualifications, and are currently involved in missions and ministry. Scholarship funding is provided by gifts through the Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions and endowments. Application Packets must be complete and postmarked to the Tennessee WMU office no later than January 25, 2018.

8 Page 8 Pastoral Counseling Center of the Cumberland Plateau Submitted by: Carolyn Scott, Pastoral Counselor As we enter 2018 let us take a moment and examine where our faith is. What we are thinking about? Are we thinking to give up and to run or to walk away? No matter how bad our condition of life or mind may be, it s important to not give up! We must regain the territory the devil has stolen from us always leaning on the grace of God and not our own abilities to get our desired results. Whatever you may be facing or experiencing right now in your life, I want to encourage you to go through it and not give up! Scripture tells us When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you. Isaiah 43:2. God helps us to make spiritual progress as he strengthens and encourages us to keep on keeping on in rough times. It s easy to quit and to walk away; but it takes faith to go through. I know over the past 33 years of my marriage there have been many turbulent waters to go through and either of us could have walked away because we were not happy in the situation. But in prayer, both of us felt God telling us to stay and to go through these waters, which meant we had to change our motives, our behaviors, our perspective, our responses, and our priorities. Our first priority was the most important to change and that was to seek and to follow God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. We had to learn to seek God first in everything we did and continue to do today. I can tell you today, our marriage is much stronger than it has ever been. I love him more today than I ever have! And I know he feels the same about me. It s so easy to give up and to quit, but stay and go through it you ll be glad you did! And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint. Grief and loss peer support groups are forming. These groups are free of charge and provide peer support to those going through grief, divorce, incarceration, deportation, deployment, abandonment, neglect, abuse, and a host of other negative life events. If interested, contact Carolyn Scott, Don t forget to include the Pastoral Counseling Center of the Cumberland Plateau in your annual giving. We are a non-profit organization and all donations are eligible for tax deduction.

December 11th, found the food baskets going two by two into the Cumberland County Schools. The hugs, smiles, the screams of delight, and the multiple expressions of thanks were bountiful-all these were from the school guidance counselors. Just for a few moments let your imagination ponder on what it must have been like for each of the families when they arrived at the schools to pick up their baskets-yes baskets; through your generosity each family received TWO baskets which were prayed for and packed with: turkey, ham, stuffing mix, 10 pound bag of potatoes, 2 boxes of macaroni and cheese, jar of gravy, 2 large cans of yams, 4 cans of green beans, 4 cans of mixed vegetables, 4 cans of corn, 6 cans of beans 2 cans of cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, box of tea, jar of kool-aid mix, gallon of milk, Nestle Quik mix, 1 large tube of oatmeal, box of Cheerios, laundry soap, light bulbs, toilet paper, meal kit toys and two had clothes in them! Thank you, each and every one for your monetary donations throughout the year, for giving the extras, your prayers for the food basket recipients, for those that joined us on December 6th to pack and to all of you that had a part in this in anyway, again I say thank you! This truly was a blessing to so many-me included; thank you for letting me serve as your director and having the opportunity to be a part of this. I want to share a text message that I received from one of the guidance councilor s. Just wanted you to know the Mom was very appreciative there are 3 little kids and one of them has been homebound battling cancer. Thank you!! Our next meeting is March 8th at Calvary Baptist Church. Our mission project is a $25 gift card for the Missions-Get-Together Silent Auction. CPBA WMU will be making two basket, How Does Your Garden Grow & Americana. WMU directors if you were not present nor did not have a representative to draw a gift card to purchase, please call me so we can get you signed up. We need all gift cards in on or before February 14 th. Cumberland View Baptist Church is in need of a small wooden podium for their Sunday School classroom. If you or your church is able to donate one, please contact Pastor Willard or Dorothy Dale at *Executive Council Meeting has been rescheduled from January 15 to January 29, 2018 at 6:00 PM. 11 Page 11 The Pastoral Counseling Center is partnering with Heart of the Cumberland, located in Cookeville, TN to bring grief and loss peer support groups to Cumberland County beginning in These groups will help individuals who have suffered loss due to death, divorce, incarceration, deployment, deportation, abuse, abandonment, neglect, and a host of other negative life events. Groups will be provided free of charge, but we need help covering this cost (see below). These groups are open to all individuals regardless of being churched or unchurched. Initially, peer groups will allow for ages 13 to adult, and long-term planning allows for 2 nd grade adult. These peer group formats promote hope and healing in Jesus Christ and the materials used are based on the Word of God. We want to thank First Baptist Church for allowing us to use their beautiful facility to host our first interest meeting, where nine attended. First Baptist is also providing space for these groups to meet and have donated many art supplies for these groups. We need compassionate and Jesus loving individuals to serve as facilitators for these groups, sharing the true hope of healing Jesus Christ. Facilitators must be willing to submit to a background check, and provide 3 referrals, along with a referral from your church membership. Heart of the Cumberland will train all facilitators to lead these groups. If interested, go to heartofthecumberland.org and select Volunteertime, complete the application and Carolyn Scott will call you to schedule a time to complete the volunteer process. We are also needing churches, individuals, businesses, and other organizations to write us into your monthly budgets to fund this initiative. We need financial sponsors to cover the cost of the art journals used in teen peer groups, participants recovery journals, art supplies, refreshments, tissues, cleaning supplies, etc. If you would like to make a donation to cover the cost of the peer group materials, please write your tax deductible check to the Pastoral Counseling Center of the Cumberland Plateau (PCCCP) and note in the memo line Grief and Loss Peer Groups to ensure the donation goes to cover these costs.
