5 Welcome! We are so glad you have chosen to worship, fellowship and grow with us at Indian River City Church! Whether you are here for the very first time or have been a part of our community for a long time, this catalog has been produced to give you an overview of what goes on at Indian River City Church. There s something for everyone, from birth to 100 years plus! Are you looking to get better connected with our community? Then Getting to Know You and Faith Alive (p. 20) is a good starting point. Are you wanting to get to know Jesus better by digging into Scripture? Then join in Pastor Bill s Bible Study on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 in the Sanctuary or in one of the other studies or classes we offer throughout the week. Check the weekly bulletin for new classes & groups that start throughout the year. There are many activities for Children and Youth so be sure to check out their ministry pages. After you ve had a chance to look through the catalog, please give us a call or send us an and let us know where you want to get connected. All our ministries, groups, and outreach opportunities are open to everyone so bring a friend and join us on the journey of Bringing People to Jesus to Know Him and Make Him Known. 6 MOPS Mothers of Preschoolers understands that the years from pregnancy through early elementary is foundational in a mother-child relationship and are filled with unique needs. MOPS is for this season of a mom s life. This mothering support group exists to meet the needs of mothers in our communities. The meetings provide great conversation, friendships, guest speakers, and creative activities. Age appropriate childcare, Moppets, is provided by our professional nursery/childcare staff. MOPS meets twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Mondays from 9:30 11:30 AM in Wesley Hall. Children may be dropped off starting at 9:15 AM on meeting days. Meeting dates for 2018 are: January 8 & 22, February 12 & 26, March 12 & 26, April 9 & 24, and May 14. 8 Purpose: The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. UMW Unit Program Meetings Unit meetings are a time when all the circles (small groups) meet together for a program and fellowship. All women of the church are invited to attend these unit meetings to learn more about UMW. Unit meetings are listed in the bulletin and newsletter. 11 The Care Ministry is here to meet the needs of those in our church and community who are suffering from illnesses, life changes, difficulties, isolation and bereavement. If you have a need, let us know so that we can help. Or if you want to join us in sharing God s love for others, contact Lisa at x24. Women Alone Women Alone is a support group for women who have suffered the loss of a spouse. The women enjoy a time of fellowship, sharing, a devotion, an occasional speaker, and food. The group meets the 4th Sunday each month from 3-5 PM January - March and 4-6 PM beginning in April in Wesley Hall. For more information contact Sharon McClelland, Prayer Shawl Ministry Prayer Shawl Ministry is for those who knit or crochet or would like to learn how. There are two groups. The daytime group meets on the third Wednesday of each month from 10 AM - Noon in Wesley Hall, Studio 153. The evening group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 PM in Wesley Hall, Studio 153. 12 Care Wear Care Wear Volunteers, Inc. is a group of willing hands providing free handmade items to nursing home residents, hospital patients of all ages, cancer centers, and law enforcement agencies. The group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month in Wesley Hall, room 124 or stop by the library on Friday or Sunday mornings and Pat Boner or Linda Stuck will be glad to answer your questions or provide more information. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Grandparents Raising Grandchildren is a support group that meets the 1st Friday of the month from 9:30-11:30 AM in the choir room. Meetings are open forum to discuss the challenges, concerns, joys, and issues of raising your grandchildren in a non-judgmental and caring environment with others in the same situation. Through the GRG organization, people have access to the rights, financial assistance and resources available to grandparents in these caregiver roles. Dementia Support Group Dementia Support Group is for people who care for or are related to people suffering from illnesses related to progressive Dementia. Led by Marjory Leah Michaels, MAT of Dementia Alliance, group members will gain a better understanding about dementia and how best to care for people who suffer from it. It is also a safe forum to talk through challenges, share feelings, needs and concerns, and learn about resources available in the community. 13 Prayer Connections While prayer is an important part of any group that meets, this group meets specifically focusing on intercessory prayer. There is also a prayer line where you are invited to call in your prayer requests. 14 Senior Ministry Tai Chi Join this slow movement exercise class. Tai Chi meets Thursdays from 10:00-11:00 AM in Wesley Hall. Cost is $3.00. Contact Dollie Boggs at Sit and Fit Join in on the fun of an exercise program for senior citizens with limited physical motion. Sit and Fit meets Thursdays from 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM in Wesley Hall, Studio 153. Cost is $3.00. Trips At various times throughout the year, trips are organized for our Seniors and their friends. Past trips have included New York City, Myrtle Beach. Local trips are to plays and lunch in nearby cities. Watch the bulletin for upcoming trips or contact Dollie Boggs at or Jean Richards at Programs Throughout the year, the Senior Ministry & Care Ministry partner to bring a variety of both informative and entertaining programs to our Senior Community. 16 Men s Ministry Our Purpose is to: Grow Men to become living examples of Christ. Join the growing number of men in our church who are connecting through fellowship opportunities, growing in their faith through small groups and studies and serving Christ through projects to our church family and community. 18 The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The program s approach seriously considers the model of Christ s disciples to act in ways appropriate to being a servant of all. The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with a 72-hour short course in Christianity. The Emmaus Walk typically begins Thursday evening and concludes Sunday evening. Men and women attend separate weekends. Our Emmaus Weekends are held at Leesburg, Warren W. Willis Camp. 19 Via de Cristo is an interdenominational ministry designed to assist disciples of Jesus in the renewing and deepening of their faith. Via de Cristo means the Way of Christ and began in Spain under the name Cursillo. The Via de Cristo Retreats are designed to be a means through which the Holy Spirit can work more effectively in and through the lives of the participants thereby strengthening their families, congregations and the environments in which they live, work, and play. The weekend begins on Thursday evening and ends on Sunday afternoon. During the retreat participants enjoy singing, prayer, worship and discussions that are led by both lay people and clergy. Sundays 12:30-2:30 PM starts February 4, April 15, July 15, and September 16. Faith Alive is a 3-week course preparing people for membership at Indian River City United Methodist Church. Class is open to all women; single, married, widowed, or divorced. Location: Description: H.E.L.P. Wesley Hall, Room 210 Helping parents in the sandwich years between kids and aging parents. Couples of school age through college aged children. Curriculum rotates between Bible Studies & topics related to parenting and marriage. Always Open Location: Description: Wesley Hall, Room 212/213 This class enjoys fellowship with people of all ages, from all walks of life, married, single, and families. They rotate their studies from book topics to books of the Bible. 21

23 Adult Connections Our life in Christ was never meant to be lived alone. God desires that we grow together in community. Small Groups, Bibles Studies and classes allow you the opportunity to grow in your relationship with God and others. Small Groups At Indian River City UMC everyone is encouraged to get connected with other members and friends through a small group to share in Bible study, fellowship, and serving. We believe that life change happens best in a small group setting. Small groups meet weekly or bi-monthly on various days of the week and in different locations (homes in the community and on the church campus). The smaller size of these groups (4-15 people) allow you to experience more intimate fellowship and deeper relationships with others. 24 Bible Studies Our Bible Studies and Classes are usually larger groups that meet for both short term and long term studies. Most of these studies and classes meet on the church campus throughout the year. There are ongoing Bible Studies that meet on Sunday morning at 9:30 and 10:45 AM. Other Studies and classes include: Disciple IV Bible Study, The Truth Project, Beth Moore, and a variety of other studies covering a variety of topics. Please continue to check the weekly bulletin and monthly newsletter for new Studies and Classes, as well as pick up a List of Current Bible Studies and Classes in the lobbies of the Sanctuary and Wesley Hall. 25 PERSONAL GROWTH We grow in our personal relationship with God through a daily time of reading the Bible and reflecting devotionally in prayer. Pastor Bill has encouraged us to join him daily in the Upper Room. The Upper Room is a daily devotion which invites us to ponder a scripture verse and hear real life application from authors around the world. We re challenged by the readings to grow in our faith in new and exciting ways. There are two ways to access an Upper Room Devotional. 1. 26 Refuge Student Ministries is a community of students connecting with God and with one another through vital meaningful relationships with the purpose of telling the world about the love of God in Jesus Christ. We believe that serving our world in the name of Christ is important at any age. On Campus Car Care Ministry - Saturday Car Repair for inspections and minor repairs on cars owned by single moms, widows, and others in need in the west parking lot. 9:00 AM - Noon Food Pantry - Thursday distribution: ministry of help as well as encouragement. Volunteers of many types pack food as well as minister to those who come by providing support of encouragement and prayer. 9:00 AM - Noon Hospitality Team - Ushers and Greeters serve during all worship services, in the Café and special events providing extravagant hospitality. Ushers serve during the worship services to welcome and assist as needed Special Gathering - a ministry within the mentally challenged community. Ministering to the spiritual, mental, social and physical needs of persons who are intellectually disabled. Meets in the Chapel on Sundays at 3 PM. 31 Off Campus Brown Bag Blessings - personal outreach to those we know need a blessing of food at Thanksgiving. Foster Family Support providing support throughout the year through special events. Kairos Prison Ministry - taking the Good News into the prisons on weekend events. Local Schools - Coquina & Imperial Estates Elementary supporting our neighbors through help with reading & mentoring students at school plus assisting with special events during the year. Good News Clubs shares the Gospel weekly in an approved after school program at these schools. Mission Trips short term available trips to Cuba, Panama, Poland and Liberia are available. Prison Book Project - Ships Christian and wholesome literature to our prisons and jails across the USA free of charge. Volunteers stamp every book donated by publishers, pack boxes and assist in the office. Donations of $25 ships one box to a prison. Seafarer s - serve at Port Canaveral to the workers of the many cargo and passenger ships that come through out port every day, providing a warm meal and a listening ear as they share Christ s love. 33 Library IRC has an outstanding library. We believe that providing a variety of Christian resources to help families and people grow in their faith fulfills the church s purpose to Bring People to Jesus. There is a large selection of Christian fiction, titles dealing with current events and cultural issues, books on spiritual growth and life issues, reference books, a wide variety of children s books, and a large selection of family friendly DVDs. The library is open Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Fridays from 9:00-11:30 a.m. Most of the time a volunteer will be there to help you; if not, please use the self-check system. You are invited to visit the library at other times by checking in at the church office, getting a visitor pass, and browsing the library using the self-check system. First time visitors please sign a patron form located on the library counter or table. 34 Library Continued Library Book Chat Our Book Chat meets in the church library on the campus on the 3rd Friday of each month from 11:00 a.m. till noon. Our Book Chats are informal (we do not have a reading list) and open for everyone to participate in. You may join us any month you are available. Throughout the year we have had award winning authors as our Book Chat guests. Past authors have included Elizabeth Camden and Rachel Hauck.
