4 The Local Christian Church Is For You And For Those To Come Ephesians 3:6-12 (The Message) FOR PETE S SAKE, WHY DO WE MAKE SUCH A BIG DEAL ABOUT THE LOCAL CHURCH? THE CHURCH SHAPED AND SAVED MY LIFE! Preventative I know the me me and you know the you you! 1. It shaped my conscience and my Jesus Worldview (Romans 7:7) 2. Instilled a sense of purpose. This is my life work: helping people understand and respond to this Message the inexhaustible riches and generosity of Christ. (3:7-8) 3. Provided the context for lifelong friendships. Through followers of Jesus like yourselves gathered in churches 4. Served as a window into God s activity all over the world. (Listen to PM s sermon from last week) this extraordinary plan of God is becoming known and talked about even among the angels! 5. Taught me to be generous. Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38 I VE CONCLUDED A follower of Jesus will have a better life. A follower of Jesus will be better at life. A follower of Jesus will be made into a fisher of men. A follower of Jesus will have Eternal Life. A STRONG LOCAL CHRISTIAN CHURCH = A STRONG COMMUNITY! [Ancient history, modern history, and current history prove that the local Christian church (Judeo-Christian) provides the strongest argument for the dignity of individuals and for human rights.] (Vanishing Grace, Phillip Yance) You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37-39 Outside of your family, there is no better investment in the world than in the local church and for those to come.

5 The Local Christian Church Is For You And For Those To Come Share 1. What comes to mind when you hear the word church? Does the word carry mostly positive or negative connotations for you? For our culture? Why? 2. During the message, PG said, If the influence of the local church were withdrawn from my life, I would be a wreck. How has the local church influenced your life for the better? 3. Talk about an experience serving in a ministry or connecting in a group that grew your faith. What was it about that experience that changed your relationship with God? 4. Have you ever been on a short-term mission trip? If so, how did that experience change your perspective of your heavenly Father? 5. During the message, PG said, Outside of your family, there is no better investment in the world, than in the local church and for those to come. How do we at CLCS demonstrate that we are seriously determined to make this investment? Study 1. What is Jesus promise in Matthew 16:13-18? How ought this promise to affect us? 2. According to Ephesians 3:2-6, what is the mystery God has made known to Paul and the other apostles and to us and to all? (See Romans 8:17 and 1 Corinthians 3:21-23) 3. How do the Gentiles receive the benefits enumerated by the apostle in this passage? See Ephesians 3:6c. 4. According to verse 10 of Ephesians 3, what has God made known through the church? To whom has He especially made this known? How do you think He makes this known? Support 1. Seriously, unless we, the church, cooperate with the Holy Spirit and with God s redemptive plan, those without purpose will continue to live a purposeless life, those who are living with enormous amounts of guilt and shame will go to their grave with it, and the lost will remain lost forever and ever. What more do you (the church) need to do? 2. As you prepare to pray, first read Acts 4:23-31, and allow the prayer of the early church to shape your prayers for one another.

6 Prayers of the Congregation Please contact Debbie Line in the church office at or if you would like someone added to the Prayer List. To place someone on the Prayer Chain contact Dianne Lohan at or Lianne Anderson at Kobon Ministry in Papua New Guinea: We thank the Lord for the faithfulness of Hibru who has coordinated the Living Word Schools in the Gebrau District for the past 18 years.
