5 Sermon-Based Bible Study Share 1. Discuss together how quickly things change in our world today. What kinds of things change the most? What impact do those changes have on relationships, our feelings of confidence and security, our faith? 2. Other than your faith in God, where do you place your greatest trust and confidence? How secure is that trust and confidence? Ever been let down? Study Read out loud Hebrews 13:8: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do it several times and emphasize a different word each time. Consider the meaning of each word. 1. The author is very precise in designating our Lord by His name: Jesus Christ. Talk about the mean of both words: Jesus = Savior; Christ = Anointed One. What do these titles mean to you? To our faith? How do they impact the meaning of the rest of the words of the verse the same yesterday and today and forever? 2. The Bible teaches us that the Son of God is the God/Man Jesus that He is fully God (the Christ promised from eternity) and fully Man (Jesus the one born in time of the Virgin Mary and the Holy Spirit). How does the promise of an unchanging God-man who is eternal and present in the moment impact the meaning of yesterday and forever? 3. In the Share segment of the study we discussed the confidence (or lack thereof) that we have in things, people, and life. How does the statement that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever give you confidence? What does it do for your willingness to trust Him in all things? 4. Take a look at Hebrews 4:15. Our Savior is not only the unchanging God/ Man, He also understands what it is like to live as we do. He is compassionate and understanding yesterday and today and forever too. What confidence does that give you, when you struggle with temptation, failure, and sin, to know that Jesus work of salvation and forgiveness is constant and sure no matter what? 5. For 60 years Christ Lutheran Church has included Christ Lutheran School as its primary local mission. Why is the message of Hebrews 13:8 so important for children to know and internalize as they grow up in a world that is constantly changing? How has Christ Lutheran School made an eternal difference in teaching Jesus the one who is the same, yesterday and today and forever? Why does it matter that we continue to be committed to this mission? Support 1. Share with your group how you feel right now about Jesus Christ. Where do you see Him most active in your life? Do you see Him more as the God who makes a difference in your Past? Your Today? Your Forever? Where ought your focus to be? What does it look for Him to be active in all three parts of your life? 2. How can your group pray for you to grow in your trust and confidence of the God who is the same yesterday, and today, and forever? Do it!
