1 Risen Savior Lutheran Church June 2017 From the Pastor s Desk Send forth your Spirit and renew the face of the earth. Psalm 104:30 June is a month filled with celebration! The crowning gift of Easter comes Sunday, June 4 on Pentecost, as we celebrate the Spirit of the living and risen Christ among us! Red is the color of the day and our sanctuary is always beautifully appointed. You are invited to add to the joy of the day by wearing something red yourself! The following Sunday, June 11, is another celebration, this time of the Holy Trinity, the mystery of the three-in-one! The trinity expresses the heart of our faith, how we experience the God of creation in Jesus Christ and with us always through the Holy Spirit. Come relate to all three aspects of God which draw us into the heart of loving relationship. On Sunday, June 18, Moses tells the Israelites they are called to be a priestly kingdom and a holy people. We celebrate the faith of our fathers through the ages and celebrate all the men of the church who have helped nurture us in the faith! Happy Father s Day! Finally, on Sunday, June 25, we hear Jesus talk some of the hard realities of faith. Golden Wedding Anniversaries Congratulations to Mike and Helen Poinsett who celebrated their 50 th on May 21, with a surprise party by their family, and to Warren and Sandy Eddy who will celebrate

No matter what the circumstance in life, we can celebrate the gift of our faith, the gift of the wisdom of Jesus, and the holy love which surrounds us forever and always.

2 Golden Wedding Anniversaries Congratulations to Mike and Helen Poinsett who celebrated their 50 th on May 21, with a surprise party by their family, and to Warren and Sandy Eddy who will celebrate theirs immediately after church on Sunday, June 4. How blessed we are to have both these golden couples in our midst! peace and unity, but division. How do we deal with that? No matter what the circumstance in life, we can celebrate the gift of our faith, the gift of the wisdom of Jesus, and the holy love which surrounds us forever and always. During these warm summer months in the season after Pentecost, as God sends forth his Spirit to renew the face of the earth, so may we find special moments of worship to receive the gift of his Spirit to renew and refresh ourselves! Come praise God, from whom all blessings flow! Serving Christ together, Pr. Jeanie 2 Lutheran TinCaps Lutheran night at the TinCaps is Monday, July 31, at 7:05 PM. It will be Family Feast Night in which hot dogs, pizza slices, popcorn, buffalo chicken sticks and regular soft drinks are all $1. They will also have fireworks and Jake the Diamond Dog. Last year they gave $1,300 to Lutheran Social Services of Indiana s Cup of Kindness Program; this year they hope to do better for Lutheran South Unity School in Southeast Fort Wayne. There will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the Gathering area. We will need to get our reservation in by July 15 in order to get their special price on tickets, which are $8 each. Light of the Cross Food Bank Pantry Report Reporting April, 2017 Activity In April, the LOTC Pantry provided meals for 739 individuals residing in 186 households, down some from the previous month.

3 Light of the Cross Food Bank Pantry Report Reporting April, 2017 Activity In April, the LOTC Pantry provided meals for 739 individuals residing in 186 households, down some from the previous month. Those served included 94 children 5 years of age or under, 227 children ages 6 thru 17, 86 individuals 60 years old or older, 102 disabled people, and 10 veterans including 2 women. Of the client households served, 92 were "Female Head of Household." Food sources in April included 1,168 pounds from TEFAP (the federal government's commodities program), 1,000 pounds from the Associated Churches Food Bank Network, and 289 pounds from the partner churches. An additional 1,513 pounds of food was purchased from the Community Harvest Food Bank Network at a cost of $ The 22 volunteers who served in April donated 204 hours of their time in service to the LOTC Pantry. Also in April, the pantry distributed Easter hams and dessert mixes to 189 client households. The Pantry thanks the Alpha Kappa Sorority for their donations of both money and food to LOTC in April. The Sharing Grace Contribution mailing labels have been distributed. If you have not received yours please speak with your congregation's representative. In June and December, the Pantry requests non-food items be donated. Below is a list of typical items needed. Thank you, one and all, for your continued support of this ministry. You are appreciated. "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you." -- Isaiah 43:2 All confirmation-age youth (6-9 th grades) are invited to join us at Confirmation Camp at Lutherwald June 18-23! Camp Lutherwald is located two miles west of Howe, IN on State Route 120 on South Twin Lake. The beautiful 65- acre property has a summer camp area with a main lodge facility, 8 youth cabins, central bathhouse, chapel, campfire circle, climbing wall, recreation field and swimming beach, complete with fun water trampoline, canoes, tubes etc. Risen Savior s Confirmation youth all will be attending! The program includes two hours of confirmation class each morning, with the rest of the day spent enjoying all that the camp has to offer. Fun, fun, fun! Pastors and trained college-aged counselors and program staff run the camp. Cost: $345, campers / half price ($172.50) pastors/adult helpers. Scholarship help available. Please talk to Pr. 5 Shine Day Success! We got a great start on our mid-week May Shine Day! All church windows were cleaned inside and out, except the outside of those with screens. Thanks to Karen Hoekstra, Ken Wyman, Paul Twedt, Marty Willeke, Warren Eddy, Pr. Jeanie, Pr. Rod, and Tammy Hyndman. The men s bathroom was scoured in necessary places! Thanks, Tammy Gandhi Hyndman! (Gandhi advised such humble service as good for the soul.) The leftover Easter lilies were planted! Thanks, Pr. Jeanie! Our fearless Council President did battle with thistles overtaking certain garden beds and cleaned out a jammed downspout (just in time before the rain started!) Thanks, Joe Hyndman! Our Council member for Property, Warren Eddy, not only had supplies ready, but also ordered and picked up Jimmy Johns sandwiches for the workers nourishment and energy replenishment! Thanks, Warren. Like Jesus multiplying loaves and fish, miraculously there were enough sandwiches to feed the Bible Study gang as well! Those who stopped by to cheer the hardworking crew on their way were: Dave and Marcia Klein (immediately upon Dave s discharge from the hospital where he had a heart stent put in!!!) plus Sandy Eddy, Jo Kruse, Johanna Buit, Marty Willeke, Arlene Lasly and Pr. Jeanie who prayed and did other kinds of digging (in scripture) during Wednesday morning Bible Study! The Seniors The Seniors (anyone over 50 and they do not have to be a member of Risen Savior) are meeting at The Factory (Coldw ater Road) on Thursday, June 8, at 11:30 AM.
