2 Faces in the Crowd Our sympathy is extended to the Beemer family upon the passing of Russell in his 102 nd year. The memorial service was held Saturday, April 2 nd here in our sanctuary. Thanks to Donna Wilcox who played the piano for Worship music during the fall at First Baptist Church here in Windsor and during the month of March at Grace Baptist. Dave Page was the guest speaker at First Baptist Church on April 10 th. Congratulations to new members: Murray and Jane Dresser and Andrea Falconer who were welcomed into our fellowship on Sunday, March 6 th. Proverbs 22:17 A merry heart does good like medicine Vacation Bible School July 18th - July 21st 6 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Ages 4-10 years old Capture Those Wonderful Moments... Jim Wheeler and Barb Wickham are looking for photos of your church events to include in our Banwell photo albums. All we need are 4 to 10 developed photos per event and on a separate paper a title for your photos and a list of names of people in the pictures. Please put all in an envelope in the Wheeler mailbox, # 133, or the Wickham mailbox, #137. If we are not able to use all your photos we will be sure to return them to you. Easter Offering Thanks to all of you for being so generous in contributing to our Easter offering this year. A total of $3,150 will be sent to Canadian Baptist Ministries to support the ministry of Conrad and Fiona Kwok in Northern Thailand.
3 Finance Report Matthew 16: Jesus is what the church is built on. Because God is great expect great things from God and attempt great things for God. See the need and ask God what you can do to help. You must come to the death of self before God can use you. A strong church is united in spirit in the body of Christ. Are you a sincere Christian? In the February News n Views and the Annual Report in April we provided financial information for This included details on annual revenue and expenses with comparisons to the budget figures. As individuals, financial planners recommend that we make a detailed list of our monthly income and expenses as a beginning to establishing a realistic personal budget. With this in mind your Finance Committee thought that the following summary of our weekly operating expenses for 2015 would give a different perspective on how your offerings serve God s mission for our church and our community. Income for January and February 2016 averaged $9,570 each week. Expenses were below budget resulting in a small deficit. March offerings declined to $8,630 per week. So, for our first quarter the average weekly revenue is $9,281 which is comparable to The draft of the 2015 Financial Statements has been received and will be reviewed by this committee and the board. Thank you for your continuing stewardship for our Banwell Mission. 4 BOOK REVIEWS ABOVE THE STARS Keith Clemons Called away from his ministry to his brother s funeral, missionary Lonnie Striker finds he has inherited a film company on the verge of collapse. He left the business world years ago vowing never to return, but he is facing an unavoidable dilemma. He has 2 weeks to save the company but he has discovered that his brother has made an R rated film. He is convinced the public would be better off it it was rated PG. Standing on his principles could cost him everything that he holds dear including his ministry. It should be an easy decision, but is it? FLYING AFFAIR With Charles Lindbergh making his victory flight in the Spirit of St. Louis, aviation fever is spreading across the country. Mittie knows that flying is perfect for the soaring ambition and taste for adventure within her and whenever she can slip away from the family, she heads for the airfield. When British aviator Bobby York offers her flying lessons, he is surprised by her grit and talent. Mittie will do whatever it takes to compete in the women s National Air Derby. STEEL WILL Staff Sgt. Shilo Harris has made a choice not embraced by veterans of wars past to talk and talk and talk about what he has experienced, a soldier turned messenger. He leaves crowds standing at attention as he honors his friends who have fallen. We will see what happens to an ordinary man when he rises above a bleak prognosis and when a miracle working God places his hands on a man that He loves. Worship Notes Spring is now in full gear as we gather together for worship during the month of May. The Pastor will be using the five Sundays during that month to cover a message series on Listening. As always, we will be blessed by the good work of our musicians under the leadership of Ian McGregor Smith. May the Lord continue to strengthen us as we gather together for worship! May 1st May 8th May 15th May 22nd May 29th Listen to the Word Deuteronomy 6 The God Who Listens Psalm 66 The Good Listener James 1:19-25 The Listening Witness Acts 17:22-31 Listening in Worship Habakkuk 2 Enjoy your book! 6 My Back Pages By now you have probably heard of Pray in May, the event that is to provide the foundation for the We Love Windsor outreach scheduled for the middle of June. When Pastor Mark Hazzard and others envisioned the We love Windsor idea, they realized that such a ministry would not be successful without prayer. So the idea for a city-wide prayer emphasis was adopted. If you were able to attend the rally at the end of April you know that the hope is to send volunteers across the entire city to pray for each neighbourhood, street by street. I m hoping that Banwell had a representation at that event and that we have some folks praying those streets during the month of May. But I realize that some of us may have been otherwise engaged on that one evening when the rally was held. Just because you weren t able to attend the event doesn t mean that you are ineligible to participate. There is a need to pray on the streets of our city, as well as the smaller towns and farming communities in our county. All of us are embedded somewhere in this community and we know a little of the human dramas that are played out each day in the homes of those whom we call neighbours. Of course, we wish we could wave a magic wand and take all the pain away from these dear ones we ve come to know through the years of living in close proximity to one another, but we know that such an immediate fix is beyond our ability. But we can pray with the understanding that the God of the universe hears those prayers and cares for these folks. So it is with the We Love Windsor event. Our Mission and Outreach Committee under the leadership of chair Ryan Richardson has a plan for that day (June 11 th ) where we hope to provide family portraits for folks who may not be able to afford such a luxury. The members of the committee (Aaron Blata, Lino Braccio, Melissa Lafontaine and Geoff McKay) as well as other helpers will be assisting on that day. But we need to extend We Love Windsor beyond one day a year. Your generous contributions to our benevolent fund, our Sunday Night Live events where we take in contributions for the Down Town Mission and Hiatus House, our Men s Ministry involvement in two local schools nutrition programs and our support of our Matthew House refugee shelter are the most evident ways that we as a congregation get involved on a regular basis in some of the most challenging social issues in our region. But then there are all of us who, on an individual basis, make an impact on our communities each day. Some of you give leadership in kids sports programs in your area. I m so grateful for the group of Christian fire fighters who call Banwell their church home. I m sure we wouldn t be able to count the number of parents who volunteer in the school their kids attend. And then there s the way all of us can respond each day as we make our way through the places we call home and work our jobs. If you have had an experience with Christ, it marks you in a special way. Because of His presence in your life, you think and respond differently which has a real impact in your world. Keep on following Christ through spending time with Him and with those with whom you share this faith and allow His love to be channeled through us into His world.
