4 Banwell Community Church Annual Report PASTOR S REPORT There s something very space age about a report for the year Here we are making our way through the 21 st century it hardly seems possible! Yet, we all believe that in each new age our God has something for His people to accomplish. Let us all pray for wisdom and guidance as we enter this coming year of ministry. This past year was a busy one for our congregation as we have tried to stay faithful to God s calling. We were glad to complete our youth ministry search process last spring and welcomed Karen Saldaña as our new Director. Continue to pray for Karen as she seeks to faithfully guide this important ministry of our church. As far as our physical plant was concerned we were grateful to update our technology and purchase a new digital sound board, as well as replace the sanctuary and chapel lighting with new LED units. Many thanks to Gerry Freeman for saving us time and money with the lighting project. Thanks to Grant Fairley, Bob Middaugh, Rick Dinis and others who came to the aid of First Baptist Church here in Windsor to stabilize the congregation and facilitate repairs to the church building and parsonage during a time of transition. Further, Mission and Outreach Committee pulled off a first at Banwell a new photo directory, to help us put names to faces in our growing congregation. Thanks to Human Resources for publishing a volunteer list and firming up policies (i.e. sick leave) to help us minister more effectively. We are grateful to our Finance Committee in successfully navigating changes in the envelope steward situation during the illness and ultimate passing of our good friend Zelma Horvath who had occupied that position for our entire history. What will the future hold for our ministry? The world refugee situation is still a major concern and our Board of Directors recommended, in our first meeting of the new year, to explore the possibilities of getting involved as a congregation. Money will not be the problem we ll need a team of folks who feel called to this project. As you heard at the budget meeting in December, our building needs extensive repairs to keep water out. Our Board has talking about the possibility of combining this project with the expansion we ve talked about for so long. Of course, we still need to strive to work hard in incorporating new dear ones into our church family, while presenting vibrant opportunities for everyone calling Banwell their church home to grow in their faith. As I close this report I must express my gratitude for those who make my role a real privilege. Our Board of Directors, under the leadership of Vladimir Kralik, Chris Freeman and Dave Hammond wrestles with challenging issues each month with faith and patience. Please keep them in your prayers. I am blessed to work with cheerful and dedicated staff members Debbie, Ian, Chantelle, Marlee and Karen. Our volunteers are just the best giving unselfishly of their time in so many areas of ministry. Finally, I thank my lovely Linda for being the epitome of a pastor s wife and serving as my sounding board and true colleague in ministry. 5 Banwell Community Church Annual Report BOARD OF DIRECTORS REPORT Another calendar year has come and gone and Banwell Community Church (BCC) continues to thrive and hold a key role in Windsor and the surrounding area saw us continue to grow and provide important ministries to our church family and the community. The work that the BCC Family does is important to many. This past year saw some growth in our financial stability. At the end of 2015, the Board of Directors (BOD) offered the Leap of Faith Budget. We increased spending and were therefore able to increase our ministry plan. Our budget is our Ministry Roadmap and your support of these ministries is vital to their success was a good year but we have more work to do was also a year of challenge for our physical building. The BOD concluded that outside expertise was required to determine the full significance of the building concerns. As I stated at our budget meeting in December, we commissioned and were provided with a report detailing repair recommendations and a scope of work. These recommended repairs are neither simple nor cheap. While the repair bill may seem daunting, the BOD is approaching this as an opportunity for growth. Pastor Alex has discussed the significant opportunity for ministry growth at BCC with the expansion of our physical building. Through surveys, vision team findings and conversations with BOD members, you, the congregation have also indicated that this should be a priority. The BOD has created a subcommittee to research and gather necessary information to help all of us make a more informed decision regarding building repair as well as possible expansion. We hope to have more to bring to you around the end of the first quarter. As many of you know, I am new to the role of Chair. Over the last number of years, I have had the opportunity to observe and learn from strong leaders who have previously chaired the BOD. Vladimir Kralik, Dave Hammond, Dave Page, and others have given valuable guidance and continued support. In addition, Pastor Alex is an excellent source of wisdom and guidance. I would like to thank the Working Committee Chairs, our Church Clerk, Dorothy Allen, and our staff for their tireless work. Lastly, to all the volunteers who run and facilitate our many ministries and activities, thank you. Your work is vital to spreading God s love and His Word to all connected to BCC. As we move forward in 2017, I ask for your prayers as the BOD strives to discern and implement God s will for Banwell. Please pray that we will receive God s wisdom and knowledge to help us powerfully spread His love with all who come in contact with Banwell Community Church.

8 Banwell Community Church Annual Report AGE UNLIMITED REPORT The Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Deut. 31:6 During the year 2016 our Senior s Ministry experienced a wonderful fate - increased attendance to date! Age Unlimited Group meets in the Chapel Room at 11:00 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month (Sept. to Jun). Our meeting format varies but includes: Welcome by our coordinator, Henry Nurse; prayer by our pastor and spiritual advisor, Rev. Dr. Alex Moir; praise singing of our favourite hymns; a devotional thought, an educational speaker of interest to our age group or seasonal entertainment. Our morning concludes with grace by Claude Daniels prior to a nutritious, delicious lunch. Our hostesses on the Hospitality Committee with team leaders Yvonne Eberle and team members Penny Bain, Madelon Kidd, Dorothy Allan, Pam Beemer and Carol Middaugh. They plan, purchase and prepare our fellowship luncheon. We are a self-supporting group so ask for a free-will offering to cover food expenses. As members of the Banwell Congregation have completed their incredible Life Journey others newly retired or new members have enhanced our fellowship. Average attendance is 45 people. 11 Banwell Community Church Annual Report PASTORAL CARE TEAM The idea of a group of lay volunteers assisting the pastor in this very important ministry came to me a number of years ago. A conservative estimate is that I ve worked under this arrangement for over 30 years. Not only am I grateful for the assistance, but it has become evident to me that the individuals who work in this capacity often go places the pastor cannot go and ask questions I dare not ask! All of us on the team freely acknowledge that we are not the only ones extending Christian care on behalf of our congregation. Small groups are excellent places where pastoral care happens each week and so many of you extend love and concern through conversations after Sunday worship, as well as s, cards and phone conversations. It gives me great joy to see the level of care that goes on in this congregation. I am indebted to the current members of our team Penny Bain, Deborah Bevington, Hyacinth Daniels, Viola Glos, Ken & Heather Heuston, Sandy Kettlewell, Madelon Kidd, Joyce Lembke, Ruth Ann Purvis, Sharon Maitre, Brenda Tetley and Lilian Wilson. They are truly co-workers in the cause of Christ, extending care to all who call Banwell their church home. A special thanks to Joyce for facilitating the prayer blankets which our team members may take to those in hospital and nursing homes. It is important to remind all of you that this is not an exclusive group it is open to anyone who senses they possess this gift and truly desire to help in this way. 12 Banwell Community Church Annual Report PASTORAL CARE & WORSHIP REPORT 2016 was an exciting year at Banwell, and the Pastoral Care and Worship Committee (PCWC) would like to thank all of our volunteers who made this possible. We welcomed 27 new members into our congregation in We are so blessed that the Lord has brought these people into our church family. We were also able to celebrate the baptisms of 13 people this year. We celebrated our 14th Anniversary in January with guest speaker Reverend Deane Proctor, from Queensway Baptist Church in Brantford giving an inspiring message. Following the service we enjoyed a wonderful meal with the Banwell family. The PCWC would like to thank all the volunteers who helped to organize, setup, and cleanup, making this a very special event! We continue to use the projector prior to the service to communicate with the congregation of upcoming church events. Deborah Doyle works very hard in putting these slides together and she does a wonderful job. Thanks Deborah. In June, we held our annual church picnic. We enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salads, veggie trays, and ice cream bars. Thanks to all those who helped to organize and serve at this special event. The Small Group Ministry continued to expand in 2016 as we added more new groups. Dave Page along with his team has outlined his vision to further develop and grow the Small Group Ministry in a detailed Ministry Plan. The focus will be on leading and developing new facilitators, as well as improved communication with the congregation about these Small Group opportunities. It is the goal of the Ministry to get everyone at Banwell involved in a small group. We'd like to thank them for their hard work. This year replaced our sound board, thanks to those who are working so hard to give us the best sound possible. Once again, the PCWC would like to thank all of our volunteers in the Music Ministry, the Hospitality Ministry, the Sound Ministry, the Small Groups Ministry, the Pastoral Care Team, the Ushers and Greeters, the Coffee and Tea volunteers, and the Decorating Committee, as well as everyone else involved in helping this year. Also special thanks to the PCWC members, Donna Soper, Deborah Martel, Heather Heuston, Marsha Campbell and John Goodwin. It was a pleasure working

14 Banwell Community Church Annual Report ENVELOPE STEWARD REPORT We are grateful for the support you give to the mission of our church to share God s love with others. Your generosity helps us bring God s message of hope and salvation to our community and beyond. Here are some updates on your giving: There are 200 people/families using numbered offering envelopes. There are 20 people using PAD (Pre-Authorized Deposit). Total teller deposits for 2016 were $539, *That amount includes offerings, government rebates, room rentals, special offerings designated for use outside the church, Christmas and Easter flowers and memorial donations. It does not include the PAD which is managed by the church bookkeeper. The PAD is added to each Sunday s offering noted in the bulletin. The current options available for making donations that are eligible for tax receipts include the numbered envelope program, the pew envelopes where you can add your name, post-dated cheque and PAD. Should you choose PAD, you can make changes simply at any time. If you would like more information on any of these options, please call the church office and talk to Debbie Ebel or contact Barb Wickham. I would like to thank the Tellers Team for their faithfulness and help each Sunday after church counting and balancing the offerings and monies received from a variety of areas. The team members are Connie Turner, Maureen Scott and Jan McKay and Gord Wickham who reconciles the cash and cheque envelopes for us. During the year we sadly said good-bye to Zelma Horvath who served as Envelope Steward for many years but we rejoice knowing she is in the presence of the Lord. 15 Banwell Community Church Annual Report BANWELL FINANCIAL YEAR IN REVIEW 2016 Banwell is rich in human talent. We are gifted and faithful believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Church Ministry continues to be blessed by the tithes and offerings from its members, adherents, guests and user groups. General Offerings increased by 8.9% or 3.3% above budget. Other income to support various ministries, missions and special projects continued to be generously funded. Expenses ended the year slightly under budget Banwell s employees, volunteers and working committees are diligent in their stewardship and are fiscally responsible with those expenses that are manageable. The costs for utilities, benefits and building repairs are more variable. Notwithstanding, we continued our financial support - $68,443 - to CBOQ, CBM, Sharing Way, Downtown Mission, Matthew House, Camp Hermosa, School Breakfast Programs and other special missions and projects. Our benevolent offerings provided $23,779 in financial assistance to those in need. With reference to 1 Corinthians 16:2 giving must be a way of life. Give with planned regularity. Give with personal responsibility. Give proportionately as God has prospered you. 16 Banwell Community Church Annual Report CHRISTIAN GROWTH & NURTURE REPORT Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Deuteronomy 6:5b-7 The Christian Growth and Nurture Committee began 2016 with Laurie Beemer serving as our Chair until her term was completed in June. We would thank her for leadership and ministry in this area of the Banwell Community Church story. Maureen Church also passed the Church Librarian baton to Monika Blata. Thank you, Maureen, for your important work in giving our church family this important multimedia and print book resource. Monika is off to a great start as our librarian. Marlee Page continued to serve as our Director of Christian Education, building on the good work done in the C.E. ministries over previous years. In spite of some significant health challenges, Marlee showed her courage and excellent preparation that allowed these ministries to continue successfully. We appreciate all of the leaders and others who stepped up and in to help out. Everyone s extra effort was wonderful. Marlee s Director of Christian Education report, included in this Annual Report, will give you more details on the C.E. ministries over the past year. This fall, we returned to our much loved Classic Sunday School format. We begin our Christian Education Hour with a common start for all our classes. At 9:15 a.m., we enjoy music along with the celebrations of birthdays and other events. We thank Dr. Alex Moir for his engaging music and enthusiasm as he leads this time. It is a great warm-up for our Bible study. We offer classes for all ages including our adults. Our adult teachers included Dave Page, Geoff McKay and Pastor Moir. We appreciate Kyrn Page coordinating the Children s Sunday School. Thanks to all of our teachers and helpers for their faithful ministry. We believe that this time is very important for families and individuals to grow in their faith. On behalf of the Banwell Church Family, we would like to thank all of those who help in our Children s ministries. We especially want to note the leadership of Heather Doyle in our nursery ministry, Kodi Page in our Vacation Bible School, Suzan Harper in our Little Lambs programme, Terri Prevett in our Children s Church, and Joy Andrews in our Kids Zone Our Rock Solid Youth Ministry serves members of our church family and other friends ranging from Grade 6 to Grade 12. It also provides an opportunity to develop some of our future leaders, as they become volunteer leaders after High School. For the first part of 2016, we continued to run programme with a volunteer team

17 Banwell Community Church Annual Report CHRISTIAN GROWTH & NURTURE REPORT (Cont d) with our Director of Christian Education, Marlee Page, as a resource. We want to thank Aaron Blata, Danny Blata, Rachel Brown, and Kodi Page for their ministry. In May, we welcomed, Karen Saldaña, as our new Director of Youth Ministries. Karen s role includes planning and leading our youth programmes. As the Director, Karen develops our volunteer leaders to enable them to use their gifts and talents. She also is a resource for our College and Careers group. Her most important role is her ministry with our young people and their families, as they journey through the teenage years. The Summer and Fall have been a time of adjustment for Karen, the youth leaders, and our youth ministry as she begins to lead our Rock Solid Youth programme. Throughout the year, our games nights give opportunities for people to connect with others in the church and bring a friend for some fellowship and fun. Thanks to Terri Prevett for coordinating these activities. One area of focus for the Christian Growth and Nurture Committee has been to review and enhance our child safety programme. Banwell Community Church is committed to providing excellent supervision of all the children and teens that our church serves. In conjunction with our Finance Committee, insurance company, and community resources, we have instituted additional plans, supervision rules and expectations for all those serving minor children in our church. The Committee has made recommendations to the Board of Directors and we expect that this will continue to be an important task for us in We would like to thank all of the members and representatives serving on our committee. Please pray for our Christian Growth and Nurture ministries as we serve all ages and stages of our church family and our community. 18 Banwell Community Church Annual Report SMALL GROUP REPORT Thanks to God and your participation, the BANWELL COMMUNITY CHURCH Small Group Ministry Program continues to thrive!! A vibrant Small Groups Ministry offers a vehicle to help members of Banwell Community Church to grow in love, support one another and serve God and the community. The Focus of this Ministry continues to be spiritual growth through Biblebased study/discussion, strong commitment to regular group involvement including Pastoral Care as well as opportunities for mission/service. Currently there are 20 active groups that meet either weekly or bi-weekly. The participants in our Small Groups program have established new and deeper connections with one another, and found a place for religious exploration and spiritual growth. At the same time, many of our small groups are intentionally connected with one another and with the life of the whole congregation, by providing assistance to various outreach services of their choice each year. Our Small Group ministry is a great way to enjoy closer fellowship with other believers and to grow in your faith. We continue to provide at least two Starting Point experiences each year, as well as one new group each year. Additionally, Dawn- Michelle Brown has felt called to start a group focused toward Mental Health and Wellbeing. Please remember that we are happy for you to start a group on your own! All we ask is that you let Dave Page, Pastor Alex or Marlee Page know, study something Christian (either a Bible study or a book that helps you grow in your faith), incorporate a prayer time into your meeting and maintain the empty chair concept, where new people are welcome. Also, if you are interested in becoming a member of a small group, contact us or review our website for potential fits. In closing I d like to thank all our volunteer Small Group Coordinators. 19 Banwell Community Church Annual Report MISSION AND OUTREACH REPORT The committee finished 2016 with good vibes (as we press forward to the things that are ahead of us. Phil. 3:16). We finished the Picture Directory and are hoping to have it by March Men s Ministry had some wonderful breakfasts, as well as a Men s Retreat at Wildwood for the day. Our Sunday Night Live was well attended and gave well to the Downtown Mission. Our Christmas offering was committed to the Sunparlour Pregnancy and Resource Centre. We are looking forward to 2017 with its opportunities and challenges the Lord has for us. May we give Him the glory. 20 Banwell Community Church Annual Report DIRECTOR OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION Another year has come and gone and what a year it has been. It is always an amazing and busy time in my role here, but I am thankful for God s many blessings, the people and opportunities He sends my way. The winter of 2016 was kinder to us than on previous years with weather on Sunday mornings and Thursday nights! The programs we had started in the fall of 2015 continued through the winter and spring and were a great success. Pastor Alex, Dave Page & Geoff McKay taught the Adult Sunday School classes through the winter and spring. Our Vacation Bible School called Wilderness Escape - Where God Guides & Provides was a huge success! We followed Moses and the Israelites on their journey through the desert and how they had to learn to trust God in all things. The kids had so much fun and we were still singing to the songs going into fall. Thank you to all the wonderful and amazing volunteers who helped out for four nights to provide this opportunity for the children. Before we knew it fall was upon us, and all programs kicked off to great success! We have a Christian Education Hour before Worship service that provides in depth study into the Lord s word. We brought back Open Session with our own Pastor Alex. This is a time of music from 9:15-9:30 a.m. The Adult class is very well attended. Geoff McKay did a class on Islam & Christianity- Basic Beliefs. The children s classes have found it hard to get regular attendance from children due to the busy lives and heavy commitments that families have in the world we live in, but we are thankful for all of them when they are able to attend. Kyrn Page has been using various Children s videos for the Children s classes, as well as activity pages. Karen Saldaña has been teaching the youth class. Thanks to both of them for their faithful service. I would like to thank our wonderful teachers of all ages for their time and commitment and their genuine love of the Lord that they share with their students! Our programs during Worship service, Nursery, Little Lambs and both Jr. and Sr. Children s Church have been well attended. We are continuing with the Curriculum called Gospel Project and are working chronologically through the Bible. In 2016 the children started with Solomon and got through to the Beginning of the Exile, while also adding in the Easter and Christmas stories too.

21 Banwell Community Church Annual Report DIRECTOR OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION (CONT D) Our Midweek Program, Kids Zone, finished in May and then started in September with great excitement! We have had some children from the community who came for VBS join us on Thursday evenings too. It has been amazing! I am very blessed to have wonderful volunteers to work with in all the programs and I am grateful to get to work with them everyday. They are so dedicated and always up for the task. A thanks is not enough!! Thank you to our Church Family! It s because of your faithfulness and support that we are able to have great facilities, programs and staff to do all we do. Thank you to Pastor Alex, Ian, Debbie and Chantelle for your continued support and help daily to make things run smoothly in all areas of our work. Karen has been a great addition to the team in 2016! A final shout out to everyone for extra support, prayers and picking up the pieces that I couldn t carry this year. My mom has always said it takes a village to raise a child. I agree with her completely (who disagrees with their mother!), but I think that village is important throughout our lives. These are the people who celebrate with us during the good times, love and hug us during the sad times and help hold us up through the difficult ones throughout our whole lives, not just the younger years. 22 Banwell Community Church Annual Report LADIES MINISTRY REPORT Although the Women s Ministry has not been formally established (yet), the ladies at Banwell Community Church met for a Ladies Dessert Night on April 30 th, put on by the Men s Ministry as a gift of appreciation. The most impressive and delicious desserts of various varieties were made available such as cakes, pies, sugar-free, gluten-free, and all were served by handsome Banwell Community Church men. Music was provided by a very talented couple who sang music theatre duets. Our special speaker was Karen Saldaña, who shared about her roots in Peru and her journey with the Lord. The Ladies Christmas Tea was successful once again. A four sister group sang like angels. The special speaker was Deborah Martel who shared about her life and how the Lord brought her to where she is today. Many thanks to Dave Reimer who prepared the prop car for the skit. 23 Banwell Community Church Annual Report DECORATING COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORT First and foremost, thanks be to God for the building He has provided for our worship services. We hope we honour Him when we decorate His house. Our main decorating is done at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thank you to each of you who placed flowers or plants in the church in honour or remembrance of loved ones. Thanks to Marlee Page, Kodi Page, Kyrn Page, Kim Stevenson and Linda Stevenson for decorating the sanctuary at Easter and making it so meaningful. Christmas decorating requires extra help from a number of people and this year I am grateful for the willingness of Laura Dick, Helen Fontaine and Marsha Campbell for their assistance in putting up all the decorations in the church. Thanks to Linda Stevenson and Marlee Page for hanging the beautiful banners and to Jeff Soper, Rick Dinis and Mark Moroz for erecting the stable. After Christmas all the decorations have to come down and be packed away for another year. Thanks to Marsha Campbell for her willing spirit in assisting me and to Jeff Soper, Braeden Braccio and Mark Moroz for dismantling the stable. To our very special Caretaker, Chantelle Bell, thank you for your beautiful spirit and your strong work ethic. You are always so helpful in retrieving boxes of decorations from the storage shelves and then helping to put them back again. Thank you also for your assistance in watering the Poinsettias to keep them alive during the season. Thanks to the congregation for your words of encouragement and appreciation for the work this Committee does. My thanks and appreciation to the Committee members who work alongside me. You are a pleasure to work with and it is always a joyful time. There is always room for more helpful hands so please speak to me if you feel lead to be a part of this team of decorators for any of the seasons. 24 Banwell Community Church Annual Report LIBRARY REPORT The Banwell church library continues to be a great source of information to both young and old. Our library team consists of three amazing ladies (Debbie, Penny, Yvonne) and myself. Each Sunday we provide you the best selection of Christian books and DVDs 1/2 hour before and after the service. The year 2016 brought many changes. The first big change came when Maureen had to leave our team. On the bright side, we were happy to make some changes inside of our library. You could notice a new marking system showing book categories, new signs and new book carts which present our top picks for you. Everyone who comes to the library can also notice a New Releases book shelf which is always full of new books. God has blessed the library with a substantial number of donations this year. We would like to thank everyone who has brought a book, bag of books, and even boxes of books and contributed to the growth of our library. Excluding used books, the library bought more than 50 new books and 10 new DVDs this year. We are happy to announce that more than 30 books and media are being checked out each month. The most popular categories are still adult fiction and DVDs, as well as children s books and DVDs. An effort was made to encourage the congregation to read books from the Christian Growth and Christian Living categories, as there were many new interesting books introduced through our new book carts. Our 2016 expenses were as follows: $ book cards, library pockets, labels, and other stationary $1, new books, CDs and DVDs $ book carts Total Expenses: $1, As we received some new books, we also sorted out our shelves and decided to get rid of some older books. These books were donated to the Inspired Christian Bookstore in Windsor, which gave us some store credit in return. We are happy to keep a good relationship with Derek, the owner of the Inspired. This year, I was also able to attend a librarian event organized by Derek at the book store which allowed me to speak with other church librarians from town. I also received some great deals on books for our library. I would like to thank everyone who is supporting our library, not only with donations but also with prayers. Our library team is happy to serve our church and even more happy when we see the impact that books have on people s lives. Monika Blata Librarian

25 Banwell Community Church Annual Report HUMAN RESOURCES COMMITTEE REPORT The HR Committee is tasked with the care and development of our volunteers, as well as providing guidance to our paid staff. The entire committee would like to thank Jim Wheeler the outgoing chair for all he accomplished during his time in the position. He continues to be a wealth of information to me in my new role as chair of Human Resources. A number of the staff as well as church members continue to make use of the budgeted funds to further their growth at various conferences throughout the year. Marlee Page, our Director of Christian Education, along with a few others traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for a Small Group Conference on Small Group Development in late spring. In early fall Debbie Ebel, our Administrative Assistant, was in Oshawa, ON for the Professional Church Secretaries Association Conference. Lastly, as reported in the News N Views, Karen Saldaña, our Director of Youth Ministries, participated in the C.B.O.Q Youth Pastors Retreat in Muskoka, On in early October. We are pleased to report that BCC now has a Communication Guideline in place for Technical Devices as well as a Security Policy regarding Church Property specifically related to mobile devices (laptop computers, ipads, cell phones). Copies of both of these can be found in the Human Resources policy binder. We are currently in the process of putting together a Sick Leave Policy for our paid staff. A draft version has been drawn up and will be presented to the Board of Directors for approval early in As always, we are truly appreciative of all the different volunteers that devote countless hours to the plethora of groups and ministries in the church and outside in the community. The work that you do has a positive impact on so many levels and we do our best to recognize those people for their efforts. If anyone has snapped any pictures at those events, please feel free to pass them on to someone on the HR Committee so we can continue to keep track of all the great initiatives that are being undertaken at Banwell. We will continue to serve the congregation and ask for your prayers as we continue to complete the work that will allow us to grow as a church family in our walk with the Lord. 26 Banwell Community Church Annual Report ROCK SOLID MINISTRY REPORT As I started on Sunday, May 1 st, I was welcomed with so much love and warmth from my new family, Banwell Community Church. I am very thankful to all the leaders and parents who were carrying the group during the last months. It is because of their love and care that our amazing youth continued to grow in their faith and love for each other. Our first event was a Youth Rally at Parkwood with other local youth groups. It was a great way to start our time together! We continued to meet during the Summer on Sunday mornings to hang out, get to know one another and encourage each other. It was great to have the youth and leaders at my place for a housewarming and birthday event! During Grad Dinner we were able to celebrate with those who were graduating from Jr. High and Sr. High. It was a real special time for everybody. In July we had a trip to Grand Bend, we did not have as many youth as we expected, but it was a great event nonetheless. That month we also had our first Youth Worship Service. We prepared through the month and the youth and leaders did an amazing job! Our theme was Evangelism and through the message we were reminded of our task to go and make disciples of all nations as well as welcome those who come to our church for the first time. It is wonderful to see our youth and young adults always helping in any way they can during our church functions. They make a difference! In August things cooled down a bit since most youth were away for the Summer. We met on a couple of Fridays. We had a special guest speaker, Ashley Bergeron. She is a motivational speaker and mental wellness advocate. She shared her inspiring story and how she overcame hardship with God's love and help. Our last event of the summer was a party at church where we enjoyed outside and inside games, food and fellowship. It was a well attended event. During the fall, we implemented Jr. High & Sr. High studies with individual curriculums for both groups to see how it works. Our group was divided in Jr. & Sr. High during the Bible Studies only. We had that format for the next 2.5 months, but after getting feedback from our youth and leaders, we decided to switch back to our old format which is having the whole group together for the studies. It works much better for our current group since they were always together from the beginning.

27 Banwell Community Church Annual Report ROCK SOLID MINISTRY REPORT (Cont d) We had a successful Apple Pie making event in October along with the Men's Ministry. Kim Anber, was the main organizer and helped us to have everything under control. We made 80 pies and raised $840 for our youth budget. It was a great time of fellowship with the men and other volunteers. Our church family was very supportive of our youth fundraising project. We are also implementing new Safety Procedures with the help and guidance of our Board of Directors. We want to make sure all our youth ministry members are safe at all times. I had the opportunity to go to several Youth Workers conferences and workshops. They gave me a lot of insight, inspiration and great ideas for our youth ministry. We already started planning new projects for the new year and continue to press on with faith and perseverance. Let's continue to pray for our youth group as we minister to them together. 28 Banwell Community Church Annual Report MEN S MINISTRY REPORT The Men s Ministry of Banwell thanks you as we appreciate the ongoing support we receive from our congregation. Our monthly meetings feature the delectable presentations of chef Kim Anber and his band of cook s helpers. We are very grateful to our guest speakers who dedicated their time and talent in bringing us a variety of inspirational and informative messages. We extend our thanks to: Frank Ball, Ron Brown Principal, Marlborough Public School, Pastor Alex Moir, Wendell Phipps, Joe Siddall Radio Announcer for the Toronto Blue Jays, Pastor Scott Dakin, Dr. Brock Van Dyck, Judge Lloyd Dean and Nemesio Calvo. Throughout the year we hosted a number of special events the first of which was held in February with a Couples Night Out featuring Pastor Comedian Steve Geyer sponsored by World Vision. In April we held the popular Ladies Dessert Night featuring special music by two former students of Ian McGregor Smith. A recycle bin was located in our parking lot for the convenience of our church members and neighbours. This proved to be very successful for our community project. The very popular Men s BBQ was held in August, hosted at the home of Lino and Monica Braccio. The Great Escape Day Away was held in October at Wildwood Golf Club with Pastor Scott Dakin facilitating a challenging theme to our men. We joined our Rock Solid Youth Group and prepared eighty apple pies under the leadership of chef Kim Anber. The pies were sold out following Sunday service with the proceeds supporting our Youth Ministry. Ryan Richardson shared the message on Men s Sunday in November with the Men s Choir providing music. Through our monthly breakfast meetings, annual car wash (that netted $1600) and special donations, we were able to continue our community outreach to Begley Public School. In addition, last year we were able to expand to include Marlborough Public School. Thanks to your support we now provide $ every two weeks to purchase food for each schools Snack program. We are very appreciative to our suppliers who donate or provide at cost the supplies we donate to the two schools. 29 Banwell Community Church Annual Report MUSIC MINISTRY REPORT Each and every year upon trying to recap the year s events in our Music Ministry at Banwell, I try to find something profound to say. Perhaps a theme or word that sums up what we do and who we are. The word that popped to mind this year is Connectivity which as defined means The quality, state, or capability of being connected. Our world today seems to be more and more connected with the use of cell phones, Facebook, Twitter and more. There is a need to be connected to others and these electronic connections consume much of our population almost as if it were an addiction. However, with all of the technology devoted to such superficial connectivity, how much are we connecting to Our Lord and Saviour? There are lots of bible apps for reading scripture which makes reading the word much easier, and that is an important start, but connectivity to God does not need social media, or cell phones. It just needs you and God and a vehicle such as prayer. Besides prayer, my favorite way of connecting to our Lord Jesus is through music and song. Music can break down emotional barriers and soften the heart so that it is easier to open up to God and hear what He is saying. Music also provides an opportunity not only to connect with God but it also gets us involved with the ability to connect with one another in a way that transcends social media. For instance, when a group of singers sing together it is scientifically proven that the harmonizing creates endorphins in the brain that endear the singers in an almost euphoric way. Now when we add God to that scientific explanation we are now joined together in the act of praising God euphorically and we are joined to God in the process. What a win/win situation. Our music ministry is richly blessed with many volunteers who take part in various aspects of the musical portions of our church service. This year rather than put so much effort into a Christmas concert or Easter Cantata I decided that the focus should be placed on creating excellent and appropriate music for our worship services each and every week. Below are a list of the volunteers who I wish to thank from the bottom of my heart for the time and effort put forth here at Banwell. Our weekly rotation of Praise teams feature a variety of singers gifted in song who lead the congregation each week in praise. The first Sunday of each month we hear the young adult team, led by Aaron Blata on guitar and voice featuring Dan Blata (bass), Monika Blata (piano), Mitchell Edgar (drums), and singers, Kodi Page, Rachel Brown, and Claire Cameron. Other praise teams in rotation feature Alan Brown (bass), Dan Laskowski (drums), Jonathon Lock (percussion) Jim Demers (keyboards), Marsha Campbell (keyboards), Susan Holmes (organ), Andrew Gallant (guitar), Tom Holmes (trumpet), Brigitte Laskowski (flute), Rita Demers (Flute), Marjorie Rusling (clarinet), Ema Kralik (saxophone), Ran Zemmyo (saxophone) as well as vocalists Wayne Lemmon, Debra Lemmon, Dave Wickham, Helen Wickham, Marsha Campbell, Gail Morris, Ann Clark, Terri Prevett, Cari Fairley, Marlee Page, Kodi Page, Kim Stevenson, Kathy Freeman, Lois Rindlisbacher.

30 Banwell Community Church Annual Report MUSIC MINISTRY REPORT (Cont d) We are blessed with volunteers and guests who provide us with special music selections to enhance the worship experience. Such musicians and singers are Savannah Holman (vocals), Jamie Dech (saxophone), Emily Lemmon (vocals), Cari Fairley (vocals), Cheryl Willis (vocals), Janice Richardson (Harp), Averil Spence Clarke, (Flute), Marsha Campbell (piano). There are groups of musicians and singers that bless us with special music as well and these groups include: 4Ever4Hymn with Susan Holmes, Hal Herzog, Ann Clark, Wallie Pizzuti, Tom Holmes; Trio with Marsha Campbell, Ann Clark, Gail Morris; Kingdom Sounds with Brigitte Laskowski and Marjorie Rusling (recorders). The Banwell Bells led by Donna Wilcox allow for a beautiful sound to be added to the service on special occasions. This group includes Gord Wickham, Barbara Wickham, Mary Ann Adlam, Marsha Campbell, Dawn Augustine, Marjorie Rusling, Deborah Doyle, Debra Lemmon, Donna Hreceniuk, Cheryl Willis, and Connie Turner. Banwell Singers during calendar year 2016: Gail Morris, Debra Lemmon, Marsha Campbell, Terri Prevett, Lois Rindlisbacher, Rita Demers, Helen Wickham, Jessica Lock, Sharon Lock, Brenda VanVugt, Connie Turner, Ann Clark, Helen Fontaine, Marjorie Rusling, Wayne Lemmon, Brian Adlam, Randy Van Wagner, Dave Wickham, Tom Holmes, Carol Sipila, Tim Ebel, Cari Fairley, Shirley Brill. The Youth Group led by Karen Saldaña had an opportunity to lead the entire worship service and they sang and played beautifully. This has given me hope to form a Youth Praise Team / Choir to add to tour music ministry in The Men s Ministry also blessed us this year with a musical group of men leading us in praise a few times this year. The Men s service allowed us to put together a Men s Chorus for the occasion. Even though the focus was on improving the worship experience each week our music ministry still took part in opportunities to be of musical service at First Baptist Church where Grant Fairley led the service with his wonderful messages and Cari Fairley led the music each and every week utilizing guests from Banwell that include Donna Wilcox (piano) Banwell Singers, 4Ever4Hymn, Trio, and more. Donna Wilcox also volunteered her time at Grace Baptist at the piano. Pastor Alex Moir and Alan Brown lead the very meaningful Sunday Night Live concert series at Banwell, featuring musicians and singers from our church family
