Dear Brothers and Sisters, February 12, 2012 Today is the final day of our annual Missions Conference. We are so thankful for the missionaries who have come to our church to participate in this annual event. We are also thankful for our own Dr. Paul Kooistra, the Coordinator for Mission To the World, who is this year s conference speaker. During the conclusion of today s Worship Service we will receive pledges for the Missions Fund. I encourage everyone in our church family to participate in the Missions Fund. Our goal for this coming year is $43,000. Grace and peace,

People: now God has spoken to us by a Son. Leader: God made the world through the Son, who has been appointed heir of all things and the perfect reflection of God s glory. People: The Son is the exact representation of God s being, sustaining all things by his powerful Word. Leader: Praise God for the gift of the Son. People: We welcome the light of the world! *The Opening Song How Great Is Our God The splendor of the King, Clothed in majesty; Let all the earth rejoice, All the earth rejoice. He wraps himself in light, And darkness tries to hide, And trembles at his voice, And trembles at his voice. Chorus How great is our God! Sing with me: How great is our God! And all will see how great, How great is our God! And age to age he stands, And time is in his hands; Beginning and the End, Beginning and the End. The Godhead, three in one, Father, Spirit, Son, The Lion and the Lamb, The Lion and the Lamb. 5 *The Prayer of Invocation The Confession of Sin God Cleanses Us from Our Sin People: Almighty and merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you and one another in both our actions and our inactions. We recognize that in Jesus Christ our light has come, yet often we choose to walk in shadows and ignore the light. Gracious God, forgive our sins and remove from us the veil of darkness that shrouds our lives. Illumined by your Word and sacrament, may we rise to the radiance of Christ s glory. Amen. The Assurance of Forgiveness Based on 1 John 1:5-7 Leader: This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. The Song of Response How Great Is the Love Kids of the King God Consecrates Us by His Word The Affirmation of Faith from Belgic Confession, Art. 20 Leader: What do you believe about the work of God? People: We believe that God who is perfectly merciful and also very just sent his Son to assume the nature in which the disobedience had been committed, in order to bear in it the punishment of sin by his most bitter passion and death. 5

Welcome If you re worshipping with us for the first time, please fill out the Friendship Register form and place it in the offering plate when it comes by. They have been placed in each row to enable you to introduce yourself and request additional information about any areas of interest. We consider this our first line of communication with you and ask that you use it to note your presence each time you worship with us. Whether this is your first time here or you are a longtime member, please fill out a friendship Register form and place it in the offering plate. Announcements Sign-Ups This week, you may sign up on your Friendship Register forms for the following activities: Item Code Wednesday Family Dinner Family Dinner* (# adults & # Children) To attend Class Cherokee Missions Trip MT-Cherokee Mexico Missions Trip MT-Mexico *Or contact church office ( , office@tampabaypresbyterian.org). The Trumpet The February issue of the Trumpet has been sent out by and posted to the church web site. Print copies are available today in the church narthex. If you have any trouble accessing the Trumpet online or as an attachment, please contact Doug Knox (sd_knox@yahoo.com, ). TBPC Playground It is always a blessing, and one of our best advertisements, when on Sunday morning, Wednesday night, and weekday mornings, passers-by on BBD see our yard full of children playing. Less visible, but no less inviting to children, is our fenced playground behind the church building. Children are always welcome to play in the front yard and playground with adult supervision. Our playground equipment is suitable for children five years of age and under. There is play equipment in the storage box situated on the south end of the building that may be used by children in the front yard, and returned to the storage area. It is wonderful that our church seems like home to our children, but it is important that there be an adult supervising children at all times. The playground gate now has a pin in the gate which will require an adult to open. The purpose is not to discourage children from playing there but to ensure proper supervision for the safety of all of our children and to appropriately limit the liability of our church. 9

Lost and Found Overflows Even if you are not aware of anything missing in your life, please check the boxes on the lower shelf on the right side (as you are leaving) of the narthex. You may find the reason you haven't seen that particular item lately. Beware, it will be permanently missing in two weeks and Salvation Army will be all the richer. VBS Nominations! If you would like to nominate (or volunteer) your favorite leaders, please make a note of it on your Friendship form. Children s Ministry is anxious to reveal the winners for the following positions: Coordinator, Assistant, Music Duo, Arts and Crafts, Refreshments Chef, Advertising Guru, 3 Bible Teachers, and Penny Wars General. Actually, you might be the best one to nominate (or volunteer). VBS will be July 9-13 this year and will be a great opportunity for you to get to the winner s circle. You can also just contact Eileen Fritz ( text or cell, Eileen- Fritz@verizon.net). Sanctuary Seating Praise the Lord! God has been blessing us with many visitors over the last few months. This being the case, we are running out of seats some Sundays in the sanctuary. Please keep the following things in mind as you prepare for worship on Sundays. Thank you! Please put coats, scarves, choir robes, etc., on the back of your own chair rather than the chair in front of you. If you are going to save seats, please only save the number that you need and try to sit as close to the ends of the rows as possible so that there are empty seats together for families that come in. Members, please consider taking a turn back in the overflow to open up seats in the sanctuary. Children s Church Informational Meeting Thanks for a lively response at our first informational meeting! To accommodate schedules of those unable to join us then, there is an additional opportunity to attend a meeting for current and prospective staff. Interested youth and adults may join us on Sunday, Feb 19, in the double classrooms over light refreshments. We will consider the vision for cultivating worship, preview the new Children Desiring God curriculum, explain rotation logistics, introduce Youth Teaching Internships (Gr 6-12), and plan for children to re-join parents for Communion. For further information, contact Eileen Fritz ( text or cell, EileenFritz@verizon.net). We love new staffers! Continuing the Legacy of Barbara Heil Barbara s legacy was serving with diligence, showing up even if at times she was the only one. Among other things, she was the faithful cashier for Wednesday Night Suppers. She was also a pro-life volunteer at the Pregnancy Care Center, most remembered for her fundraising among us for the annual Walk for Life. We 10

wrote checks. She got the blisters. She walked days before her surgery. These two ministries are still open for someone else to fill. If you are interested in being the cashier, please see LeeAnn DeStefano. If you are interested in volunteering at the Pregnancy Care Center, please call (813) Valentine s Babysitting Night Friday, February 17: PHOS youth group would like to provide a night of free babysitting at church for all the lovebirds in our congregation with little birds still in the nest. This event will take place from 6:00 10:00 pm. We will provide youth and adult chaperones, age-appropriate activities, and pizza for dinner. Please let Lauren Fritz know if this event is something your family plans to take advantage of so that we can make sure we have enough pizza and chaperones (laurenfritz@verizon.net). NTCA Scholarship Sunday Sunday, February 19: This is NTCA Scholarship Sunday. As a ministry of TBPC we are able to offer our preschool program for a reasonable price. However, there are times when families encounter difficulties in making their tuition payments; or, there are children for whom we feel the school would be a substantial benefit. In these situations we rely on our scholarship fund to offer assistance. Would you prayerfully consider giving to the NTCA Scholarship fund? Gifts to the fund may be made via check to Tampa Bay Presbyterian Church with the designation "NTCA Scholarship Fund." For additional information about our preschool, please contact Cheryl Barber ( ). Class 101 (Membership) Sunday, February 19: Are you interested in learning more about the vision and mission of TBPC?
