Dear Brothers and Sisters, January 30, 2011 The Lord has blessed the ministry of our New Tampa Christian Academy (NTCA) over the years. We are grateful for the good reputation of our school in the community because of the wonderful commitment and service by our faculty and staff. Priority registration to NTCA for members of our church begins tomorrow (January 31) for the school year. Classes fill up quickly, so be sure to register quickly. Please read about the tuition discount that is given to TBPC members. Today we are also asking our church family to contribute to the NTCA Scholarship Fund. This is the fund that enables us to offer tuition discounts to families whose children attend NTCA. Please talk to our NTCA Director, Cheryl Barber, if you have any questions. Grace and peace,

*The Prayer of Invocation The Confession of Sin God Cleanses Us from Our Sin People: Jesus, the Magi saw you, we see you in the Bible, and the whole world can see you in creation. As we see you, we also look at ourselves and see that we do not always obey you. Forgive us for not following you. Free us from our sin for Your name s sake. Amen. The Assurance of Forgiveness Based on John 1:9, 12 Leader: The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. To all who have received him, to those who believe in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. 5
The Song of Response Fairest Lord Jesus God Consecrates Us by His Word The Affirmation of Faith Westminster Larger Catechism #31, 32 Leader: With whom was the covenant of grace made? People: The covenant of grace was made with Christ as the second Adam, and in him with all the elect as his seed. 6
Leader: How is the grace of God manifested in the second covenant? People: The grace of God is manifested in the second covenant, in that he freely provides and offers to sinners a Mediator, and life and salvation by him; and requiring faith as the condition to interest them in him, promises and gives his Holy Spirit to all his elect, to work in them that faith, with all other saving graces; and to enable them unto all holy obedience, as the evidence of the truth of their faith and thankfulness to God, and as the way which he has appointed them to salvation. The OT Scripture Reading Micah 6:1-8 RE Ken Pothoven 1 Hear what the LORD says: Arise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. 2 Hear, you mountains, the indictment of the LORD, and you enduring foundations of the earth, for the LORD has an indictment against his people, and he will contend with Israel. 3 "O my people, what have I done to you? How have I wearied you? Answer me! 4 For I brought you up from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, and I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. 5 O my people, remember what Balak king of Moab devised, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, and what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the saving acts of the LORD." 6 "With what shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? 7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?" 8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? 7
*The Psalm Psalm 19 8
The NT Scripture Reading Matthew 5:1-12 RE Ken Pothoven 1 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: 3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7 "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 "Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. The Prayer of the Church RE Ken Pothoven The Offering The Offertory Song Please place Friendship Registration form in Offering Plate Debi Hensley The Preparatory Song Hide Away in the Love of Jesus Worship Choir The Dismissal Children (ages 3 to Second Grade) dismissed to Children s Church The Scripture 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 Rev. Freddy Fritz 26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord." 9
The Prayer of Illumination The Sermon Boasting Only in the Lord Rev. Freddy Fritz The Sermon Notes The Prayer of Dedication God Commissions Us to Service *The Closing Song In Christ Alone In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song; This Cornerstone, this solid ground, Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, When fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My Comforter, my All in all, Here in the love of Christ I stand. 10
In Christ alone, who took on flesh, Fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save. Till on that cross as Jesus died, The wrath of God was satisfied. For all my sin on Him was laid; Here in the death of Christ I live! There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain; Then, bursting forth in glorious day, Up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory, Sin s curse has lost its grip on me; For I am His and He is mine, Bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, This is the power of Christ in me; From life s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man, Can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home, Here in the pow r of Christ I ll stand! Words and music by Keith Getty and Stuart Townsend *The Benediction *The Postlude *The Meet and Greet Café Have a taste of something special with a new friend! The Café Host will serve refreshments for twenty minutes after the service in the overflow section of the sanctuary. 11
Welcome to Our Guests If you re worshipping with us for the first time, please use the forms in the Friendship Register. They have been placed in each row to enable you to introduce yourself and request additional information about any areas of interest. We consider this our first line of communication and ask that you use it to note your presence each time you worship with us. With the exception of a letter of welcome we assure you that your privacy will be protected. Pastor s Welcome Lunch Pastor Freddy Fritz and his wife Eileen would like to invite you to a Welcome Lunch. These take place every one to two months immediately following the Worship Service. They are hosted at the homes of various members of our leadership. They provide an excellent opportunity for you to get better acquainted, ask questions, and discuss any areas of interest with the pastor and the church leaders. Times and places are posted in the Announcement section. Announcements Sign-Ups This week, you may sign up on your Friendship Register forms for the following activities: Item Wednesday Family Dinner Wednesday Dinner Volunteers Welcome Lunch Summer Missions Trip Men to attend Lightning Game To receive Golden Years updates Code Family Dinner* # adults & # Children Wed Team* Food Prep, Serving, Clean up WL Missions Trip Hockey Seniors *Or contact church office ( , office@tampabaypresbyterian.org). The Lord s Supper We will celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord s Supper during the worship service next Sunday. Scripture calls us to examine ourselves before we come to the Lord s Table (1 Cor. 11:28). The Sacrament of the Lord s Supper is to be observed in remembrance of Christ, and to proclaim the Lord s death until he comes (1 Cor. 11:23-26). Ask God to prepare us for this celebration so that we may be spiritually revived and strengthened in our faith. A Deacons Offering for the Benevolence Fund will follow the Communion Service. 12
Golden Years The Session has approved a proposal to coordinate ministries by and for Seniors. Our first brainstorming session with eleven participants took place over a working lunch on Wednesday, January 26. If you unable to attend and would like to be kept in the loop, write Seniors in Friendship Register. Eileen may also be reached at EileenFritz@verizon.net If you are old enough to read this, you are old enough to participate! MorningWalk January 30th: ShadowWalk, the Sunday morning class for women is now Morning- Walk! Focused on Christian living concepts, strong relational bonds, and committed prayer partnership, our new study is based on the book When Helping Hurts. We will explore how we, as Christian women, can help people in foreign missions and community ministry in ways that encourage personal growth rather than dependence; a profoundly relevant issue in relating to family and friends as well as providing insight as we vote on social issues. Come join us in Room 23! For questions, call Eileen Fritz ( , EileenFritz@verizon.net). NTCA Registration January 31st to February 4th: Priority registration for TBPC members for our church preschool as NTCA is enrolling students for the school year. We have two and three day classes for children ages 2, 3, and 4. The program is from 9:00 a.m. until noon and includes outstanding Christian and academic preparation for kindergarten. Tuition prices are $160 per month for 2 days per week and $225 per month for 3 days per week. TBPC church members are given a 25% discount on tuition prices. If you would like more information, or would like to tour the school, please talk with Cheryl Barber or contact the school office between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at NTCA Scholarship Sunday The NTCA school board has set up a scholarship fund to assist families experiencing a financial crisis with the cost of tuition. As one of the outreach ministries of TBPC, the Session has designated this NTCA Scholarship Sunday to encourage giving to the New Tampa Christian Academy Scholarship fund. This Christian preschool for children ages 2-4 is a morning program providing a wonderful Christian foundation for learning. This year the fund has blessed families struggling with issues such as unemployment and unexpected medical expenses to start or continue their child's preschool education at NTCA. Your gift will enable NTCA to continue to offer scholarship assistance to families in need.
