People: Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. Leader: There is no speech, nor are there words; 3

4 their voice is not heard; People: yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. Leader: The glory of God echoes throughout the world. Let us praise the name of the Lord. *The Opening Song How Great Is Your Love Chorus How high and how wide, how deep and how long, How sweet and how strong is your love; How lavish your grace, how faithful your ways, How great is your love, oh Lord! No eye has seen, and no ear has heard, And no mind has ever conceived The glorious things that you have prepared For everyone who has believed; You brought us near and you called us your own, And made us joint heirs with your son. Chorus Objects of mercy, who should have known wrath. We re filled with unspeakable joy! Riches of wisdom, unsearchable wealth, And the wonder of knowing your voice. You are our treasure and our great reward, Our hope and our glorious King! Chorus How lavish your grace, how faithful your ways, How great is your love, oh Lord! 5 God Cleanses Us from Our Sin The Confession of Sin Based on Matthew 2:1-16, 6:23 People: God of the Bethlehem star, everyone is searching for your light shining in the face of Christ. The Magi sought Christ simply to worship him. But Herod sought him to appease his jealous anger. We confess that our motives in seeking Jesus are not pure. We do not come simply to worship: we come to Christ, asking his benefits of reassurance, health, wealth; asking him to fulfill the hundred petitions for not-so-important requests that we heap before him. But the Magi sought first the kingdom. Help us, God, to follow their example, putting our own need in perspective, worshiping the Christ in love, content to be in your presence, and laying our gifts before you. Then may we journey, trusting that your goodness and light will accompany us all the days of our life. Amen. The Assurance of Forgiveness Based on John 1:9.12 Leader: The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. To all who have received him, to those who believe in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. 5

6 The Song of Response Amazing Grace, Our Chains Are Gone Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see. Twas grace that taught my heart to fear; And grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed. Chorus My chains are gone, I ve been set free. My God, my Savior has ransomed me. And like a flood his mercy reigns, Unending love, amazing grace. The Lord has promised good to me; His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures. Chorus 2x The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine. But God who called me here below, Will be forever mine. Will be forever mine. You are forever mine. 7 is my God and Father because of Christ his Son. I trust him so much that I do not doubt he will provide whatever I need for body and soul, and he will turn to my good whatever adversity he sends me in this sad world. He is able to do this because he is almighty God; he desires to do this because he is a faithful Father. The OT Scripture Reading Genesis 1:1-5 RE Bert Barber 1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. Leader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. The Psalm Psalm 29 O give to Jehovah, you sons of the Mighty, both glory and strength to Jehovah accord! O give to the Lord his name's greatness of glory! In splendor of holiness worship the Lord! The voice of Jehovah resounds on the waters; The glorious God thunders forth from the height. The Lord is upon the great sweep of the waters, The Lord's voice in splendor! The Lord's voice in might! The Lord on his throne sat above the great deluge! The Lord on his throne sits as King without cease! The Lord is the One who gives strength to his people! The Lord is the one who will bless them with peace! Tune: KREMSER (We Gather Together) The NT Scripture Reading Mark 1:4-11 RE Bert Barber 4 John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of 7

8 repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 Now John was clothed with camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And he preached, saying, After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. 9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven, You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased. Leader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. The Prayer of the Church RE Bert Barber The Offering The Offertory Song *The Preparatory Song Please place Friendship Registration form in Offering Plate Debi Hensley Let Your Heart Be Broken Let your heart be broken for a world in need Feed the mouths that hunger, soothe the wounds that bleed Give the cup of water and the load of bread Be the hands of Jesus, serving in his stead. Here on earth applying principles of love, Visible expression, God still rules above Living illustration of the Living Word To the minds of all who ve never seen or heard. Blest to be a blessing, privileged to care, Challenged by the need apparent every where. Where mankind is wanting, fill the vacant place; Be the means through which the Lord reveals his grace. Let you heart be tender and your vision clear; See mankind as God sees, serve him far and near. Let your heart be broken by a brother s pain; Share your rich resources, give and give again. 9 The Dismissal Children (ages 3 to Second Grade) dismissed to Children s Church The Scripture 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13 Rev. Freddy Fritz 31 And I will show you a still more excellent way. 1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. You have overcome the grave, Your glory fills the highest place,, What can separate me now. You go before me, You shield my way. Your hand upholds me. I know You love me. Chorus (Bridge 2X s) You tore the veil, You made a way When You said that It is done! You tore the veil, You made a way When You said that It is done! And when the earth fades; Falls from my eyes, And You stand before me, I know You love me. I know You love me. Carla Stevens: Carla is excited about the debut of The Framework, a 15-episode teacher education DVD series produced by Covenant College to address the needs in rapidly-growing Christian schools and small, parent-run schools throughout Africa, Asia, and South America. Another initiative is creation (expected launch summer 2012) of a Center for Global Christian Education, supported by the Maclellan Foundation. Don & Judy are excited about the community education programs on HIV/AIDS that are being used in PNG; furthermore, the materials have been translated and used throughout the continent of Africa.
