2 Wow! This has been an amazing journey for me as I have observed God at work putting this weekend together! I ve been incredibly blessed as He has whispered, nudged, prodded and constantly smiled on me, as the team for NCPP #136 has come together and now His guests are joining us God is so good! And so, I know that this is part of His plan, and I thank God for all these special people who have also said yes to His call! The Scripture for this Pilgrimage Weekend is Matthew 5:14-16, 14 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. which I rephrased as Be the Light! As I have shared with the team this is actually a continuation of Jesus Sermon on the Mount. In this passage, Jesus is giving the group of disciples closest to him a charge to continue His work to give light to the darkness. Christ has said I am the light of the world. Now, as Christians, we are reflectors of that light. As Christians, we are expected to share His message of love and grace. We are to to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. And as Pilgrims, Christ is counting on us... to step out of our comfort zones... to Be the Light! Will you join us? Thank you for your continuing support and your prayers for this team please now include these special guests, as they re learning about God s call to be the light! We also invite you to be part of this weekend, by signing up for the Prayer Banner, writing palanca notes, and joining us for the Send-off, the Serenade and the Closing. And don t forget the Ultreya on November 7 Join us to welcome our newest Pilgrims to the family! God loves you my friends and so do I! Karen Collins 2

5 Notes From the Council Paying it Forward Do you remember when you attended your Cursillo/Pilgrimage weekend as a guest? For some it was just a couple of months ago, and for others it was upwards of 25 years ago. There is one thing all of us have in common with our weekend experience and that is we were all sponsored by a friend or spouse or other family member who had already attended a similar weekend. Because of the experience that person had when they went as a guest, they wanted to make sure we had a chance to have the same grace-filled experience. Since that first Cursillo weekend in the spring of 1990, there have been more than 3,000 people who have attended one of these special weekends. I remember vividly when my wife and I attended NCPMC #17 in March, We were sponsored by some very close friends. They picked us up in Greensboro and transported us to the middle of nowhere, better known as Camp Dixie, between Fayetteville and Elizabethtown. They fed us dinner on the way, came back for the serenade, got in touch with family and friends to get palanca letters, and were there for the closing after which they drove us back to Greensboro. When we returned home, they made sure we got into a reunion group. They were not serving on the team that weekend, but they made many sacrifices on our behalf all in the name of Christian love. In recent years, it appears that more focus has been on encouraging the team members to make sure the guest list is as full as it possibly can be for a weekend. While it is okay for team members to sponsor guests, I feel like the team has already given a lot of themselves by agreeing to serve, giving up three Saturdays in preparation for the weekend, getting the camp ready on Thursday for all the guests and the weekend hasn t even started yet. Wouldn t it be great if the rest of us helped out the team by shifting the focus of sponsoring guests back to the larger 4 th Day community and letting the team focus on serving God and His guests that come for the Pilgrimage weekend? By doing that, we can all feel like we are serving with Pilgrimage on a weekend and there are seven of them throughout the year. Paying it forward really does make a difference. Lenwood Collins North Carolina Presbyterian Mixed Cursillo #17 Registrar, Piedmont Council Reforming the Environment Excerpts from the National Presbyterian Cursillista February 2014 A News Magazine of the National Council of Presbyterian Fourth Day Movements and the National Council of Presbyterian Cursillo. In reading this article I was struck that the title is a PRETTY HEFTY TASK, right? Yes, but that IS the official purpose of our movement - NCPP! Cursillo and Pilgrimage exists to prepare, train and provide Christians the tools to go back to their home churches / environments and be LEADERS in those areas. LEADERS who take up the ministry of Jesus and help to reform their environment, community, workplace, school and the list goes on! NCPP weekends are a warm and fuzzy fun time from which our pilgrims and team take home happy memories. BUT with this we need to accept the complete, true purpose of the Cursillo/Pilgrimage weekend you attended and have probably staffed to evangelize / reform your environment and thus accept the obligation to actively help make it so. Pilgrims need to have a greater understanding of our method and purpose. They need to know they will be counted on to be LEADERS. They need to know they ARE the 4 th day. They need to accept they will be supportive participants in reunion groups accountable to support the weekends, send-offs, serenades, and Ultreyas. The Holy Spirit will provide the guidance and we need to act on that guidance and recruit pilgrims that want to be LEADERS that want to carry on the purpose of NCPP that want to reform their environments! It is not always possible for rectors to find a spot for everyone who wishes to serve on a weekend, but they are particularly interested in having new members of the 4th Day Community serve on teams.
