The Inter-Testament Interval, and Matthew through Revelation are studied. Recommended resource book: Halley s Bible Handbook. Old Testament Survey This is a comprehensive course designed to provide the student with a book-by-book understanding of the Old Testament. The chronology, history, setting, and content of the Old Testament are examined in such a way that the student s comprehension is increased. This study covers the introduction, preparation for Bible study, and authority of the books of the Bible. The covenants, time periods, laws, poetical books, and minor prophets are just a sample of the topics that are discussed. New Testament Church History This study tracing the roots of church history will develop the students appreciation of the

19 New Testament Church History (continued) church s role from its earliest days. The subject matter explains God s plan for the formation and spread of the church and the extension of the Gospel. Recommended resource book: Halley s Bible Handbook. Life of Christ A course designed to open to the student the life of the Saviour: the background of the Gospels, the world as it was in Christ s day, the Jews and their habits and characteristics, and all the aspects of Christ s life, ministry, death, and resurrection. It will greatly increase the student s understanding of the Gospels. Missions For each PACE in this course, the student must read one or two biographies of famous missionaries, finish the accompanying PACE activities, and complete a writing assignment. The student will be introduced to worldwide missions and gain an appreciation of what has helped shape the path of mission work. Required resource books: Peril by Choice; Peace Child; Beyond the Next Mountain; C.T. Studd; The Triumph of John and Betty Stam; Give Up Your Small Ambitions; and Flagellant on Horseback. Christian Growth A course designed around books by leading Christian authors covering various subjects worry, nervousness, submission, and the way of happiness. The objective of the course is to produce a well-adjusted Christian, one who can live above the circumstances. Required resource books: The School of Obedience; The Hour That Changes the World; Nervous Christians; The Spirit-Controlled Temperament; When a Christian Sins; and This Way to Happiness. French Program Level I Students learn basic conversation, the International Phonetic Alphabet and the regular spelling of the sound and the basics of French grammar. They also learn the books of the New Testament. French Program Level II Level II builds increased ability to read in French and to answer questions using new vocabulary and new grammatical structures. Students also learn the Romans Road in French. French Program Level III Level III teaches different forms of verbs, a review of adverb formation, negation, and reflexives. The student will learn relative and possessive pronouns. Students also learn the books of the Old Testament and the Ten Commandments. Spanish This course introduces the student to the pronunciation, grammar, and accidence of the Spanish language. By means of DVDs and PACEs, the student is made familiar with the language. Required resources: Spanish DVDs Accounting This course is designed to acquaint the student with the nature, scope, vocabulary, and techniques of accounting. Intended to provide firm foundation upon which to build, the course 19

20 Accounting (continued) includes the balance sheet, accounts, journalizing, legers, periodicity, accounting for sales and purchases, elements of a manual system, assets cash, inventories, liabilities, taxes, partnerships, and corporations. Business Math A broad review of general math sets the stage for a study that helps students apply math skills to various practical situations, in the home and business world. Students master concepts such as checkbook reconciliation, budget preparation, calculation of discounts, and insurance acquisition. General Business A study planned to introduce the student to the world of business; markets, consumer studies, advertising, corporations and industries, careers in business, production, labour, federal control, banking and finance, and international business. Beginning Art A course designed to introduce the student to the world of art and its techniques: the tools of art, shapes, line variation and shading, texture, the colour wheel, landscapes, head shapes, focal points, perspective, flannel boards, and lettering. Intended to give the student a good understanding of the concepts of art. Advanced Art Advanced studies in art that increase students appreciation for art with an emphasis on the tools of art, symbols, shapes, observation and perspective, light and shade, variety and mood, colour, the drawing of people and clothes, landscapes, lettering, and layouts. Music A course designed to teach the student to recognize various kinds of instruments, read music, find notes on a keyboard, and recognize notes, key signatures, and time signatures. It also presents biographies of well-known composers. Required resources: Music Appreciation CDs 1 & 2. Speech The basics of effective speaking are covered in this course with such fundamentals as: stage presence, diaphragmatic breathing, articulation, effective gestures, and inflection. Included is training in facial expressions, correct posture, eye contact, how to deal with stage fright, how to convert nervous tension into positive energy, and how to relax and express emotion and enthusiasm. Students will apply what they have learned through the presentation of speeches. Recommended resource: Speech Illustrated DVD. English Composition II This course is designed to aid the student in developing his writing skills. The techniques of effective writing such as introductions, outlines, storytelling, comparison and contrast, and many other features that are essential to a good piece of literature are covered. Students may take English Composition II without taking English Composition I. 20

21 Health Health issues of vital concern to the well-being of the human body are covered in this course. Material includes: basic information about the human body its functions and limitations, malnutrition, nutrition and the well-balanced diet, exercise and physical fitness, CPR, first aid and safety, health hazards, cancer, heart disease, and AIDS. 21
