2 Prelude Processional * Doxology Big Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church Reverend John Foster Ph.D., Senior Pastor Sunday, May 1, :45AM & 11:00AM HOLY COMMUNION 2 Big Bethel A.M.E. Church Phillip Skerrett, Jr. Ministers, Stewards and Acolytes #647 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. * Call to Worship Minister: People: Minister: People: Minister: People: Minister: People: Hymn of Praise I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord! Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem! For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the sake of the house of the Lord our God; I will seek your good. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God. O Lord, I love the habitation of your house, and the place where your glory dwells. But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my Rock, and my Redeemer. O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! I will sing of loyalty and of justice, to you, O Lord, I will sing. AMEC Hymn #196 There s a Sweet, Sweet Spirit 1. There s a sweet, sweet Spirit in this place, And I know that it s the Spirit of the Lord; There are sweet expressions on each face, And I know they feel the presence of the Lord ~REFRAIN~ Sweet Holy Spirit, Sweet Heavenly Dove, Stay right here with us, Filling us with Your love; And for these blessings, We lift our hearts in praise; Without a doubt we ll know that we have been revived When we shall leave this place. 2. There are blessings you cannot receive Til you know Him in His fullness and believe; You re the one to profit when you say, I am going to walk with Jesus all the way. ~REFRAIN~ Sweet Holy Spirit, Sweet Heavenly Dove, Stay right here with us, Filling us with Your love; And for these blessings, We lift our hearts in praise; Without a doubt we ll know that we have been revived When we shall leave this place. 3. If you say He saved you from your sin, Now you re weak you re bound and cannot enter in; You can make it right if you will yield, You ll enjoy the Holy Spirit that we feel. ~REFRAIN~ Sweet Holy Spirit, Sweet Heavenly Dove, Stay right here with us, Filling us with Your love; And for these blessings, We lift our hearts in praise; Without a doubt we ll know that we have been revived When we shall leave this place. 3 Worship Through Music Babcock-Young Voices of Unity The Responsive Scripture John 14:23-27 Minister: 23 Jesus answered him, "Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. People: 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; and the word that you hear is not mine, but is from the Father who sent me. Minister: 25 "I have said these things to you while I am still with you. People: 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. ALL: 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. *Preface to the Decalogue (in the tune of #258) From all that dwell below the skies, let the Creator s praise arise; let the Redeemer s name be sung, through every land by every tongue. *Summary of the Decalogue Gloria Patri #xvii-xviii Welcome to Big Bethel The Pastor s Words The Big Bethel Ministry Moment Worship through Giving: tithes & offering Philippian Ministry Women s Emphasis Month The Choral Response The Altar Call Worship Through Music Babcock-Young Voices of Unity The Sermon Pastor Foster Invitation to Christian Discipleship PRAYER OF SALVATION Dear Lord, I recognize that I am a sinner. Lord, I am sorry for my sins, and I am ready to change my life. I accept your forgiveness. I confess with my mouth that you are Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised you from the dead; therefore, according to the word I am saved. The Bible says if any person be in Christ he or she is a new creation, the old is passed away and behold all things become new. Lord, I thank you for my salvation. 3 Jesus Saves
4 Affirmation of Faith I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only son our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead; and buried. The third day he arose from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Church Universal, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sin, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. Holy Communion THE GENERAL CONFESSION Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all people, we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sin and wickedness which we from time to time most grievously have committed by thought, word and deed against Your divine Majesty, provoking most justly Your wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father for Your Son our Lord Jesus Christ s sake; forgive us all that is past, and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please You in newness of life, to the honor and glory of Your name, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. 5 - Hearing God s Word in the Sermon Since we forget 90% of what we hear, it has been suggested that note taking will double the percentage of our take home response. Why not try it and see? Points/Topics: Let us remember our sick and shut-in with our cards & calls. 5 Jesus Saves
