Schleicher always spoke bluntly about how going on pilgrimages and running to shrines are not needed because we already have everything at our Church on the Altar of the Lord: you don t need to go half way around the world to find something (the Eucharist) you already have right here. I know he is right, buuuut, although it might not be needed, it can sure help change how a person sees things. (Funny how Fr. Schleicher had no problem leaving for the entire month of January each year to go to Florida...come on, according to his proposal, he should have stayed cozy in the winter rectory instead of a condo on the Gulf hmmmm?) Anyway, at the time of this writing, I am still on pilgrimage with thirty two other parishioners seeking a change on how we see things. We just left a small village in France called Annecy, where Bishop François de Sales lived and died. I cannot begin to tell you how awesome it has been praying with the saints of France and celebrating the Sacrifice of the Holy Mass at their shrines (Denis, Louis IX, Joan of Arc, Therese of Lisieux, Louis & Zelie Martin, Catherine Laboure, Vincent de Paul, John Vianney, Francis de Sales & Jane Frances de Chantal, Bernadette and Our Lady of Lourdes to name a few). It is always hard to speak of which has been my favored place, because each moment has been more grace than I know what to do with...amazing! But, I must admit, literally preaching between the crypts of Ss Francis & Jane with the Altar of the Lord behind me, left me with only tears to express my absolute joy (and yes a specific petition was offered for your three pastors and whoever will serve you). The intentions you personally gave to me/us were individually placed upon the Altar during Mass or in the intention baskets at each shrine. For the rest, we constantly prayed on the bus and boat, train and plane for your heart to know the beating of His Sacred Heart. Thank you for allowing me this time away to become a pilgrim so I might see life more abundantly. I hate to come back and leave so soon, but as you may remember, I need to partake in the second part of my formation at Mundelein Seminary in Chicago, which I was asked by our diocese to be furthered trained in spiritual direction. This is primarily a private retreat with classwork in the evening. You have no idea how much I truly miss praying Mass with you. Paix, Fr. Bline

3 Consider joining a small group study: Upcoming Scripture Study: From Augustine Institute on FORMED: Unveiling Scripture and Tradition ADVENT It s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, or, at least that s the assumption based on that familiar holiday song. But what does that look like at your house? Most of us anticipate the great sales at the mall on the day after Thanksgiving, string lights on the outside of our house, and decorating the inside of our homes. But how exactly are we preparing our hearts for the greatest gift we ve ever been given? Through an exploration of the mystery of the Incarnation, the Virgin Birth, and the events surrounding the arrival of Jesus, this Advent study offers an opportunity to experience the joy of the true meaning of Christmas. This is a four-week study on Tuesday evenings, beginning November 7 th at 7:15 in the VHM Room. More information about this study is available on FORMED.ORG. Use Parish Code WY494W. Signups begin in the Narthex this weekend. SOLEMN EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Friday, November 10 h through Sunday, November 12 th It is time once again to join together as a parish family to devote ourselves to the Adoration of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament commonly known in our parish as Forty Hours. This year our Solemn Exposition will take place from Friday, November 10 th with the opening Mass at 10:00 a.m., through closing Vespers with Benediction on Sunday, November 12 th at 6:30 p.m. Sign-up sheets for Holy Hours will be in the Narthex next weekend. This devotion, dating back as early as the eleventh century, is to draw us into a closer relationship with Christ and increase our desire to participate in the Mass, the Eucharistic Liturgy. During Eucharistic Devotions, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed on the altar in the monstrance, a sacred vessel for showing (monstare) the consecrated host. Could you not keep watch [with me] for one hour? Mark 14:37 WOMEN OF FAITH We will be assembling and mailing the first round of pizza boxes when we meet on Friday, November 3 rd after the 6:30 Mass and Saturday, November 4 th after the 8:15 Mass. All are welcome to help. Also, mark your calendars now for our annual Day of Reflection to be held on Saturday, December 2 nd. More details will follow. On October 27 th from 1-7:00 p.m., St. Francis de Sales will hold its last blood drive this year. Our drive in July was a big success - with your help we were able to exceed our goal for which we want to thank all of our caring donors. There is always a great need for blood. Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. Because of the hurricanes and earthquakes in the south, the need is even more urgent. Please try to help those who have a critical need.

4 Howdy Partners! Students spent all last week gearing up for our annual Fall Book Fair with a western theme. Thanks to our awesome volunteers for crafting with our kiddos during their recess times! All of our students decorations will be displayed alongside the book fair items. We are so proud of our students for their enthusiasm, respect of our volunteers, and fun loving attitudes. One of our parent volunteers commented on how well behaved our students were during crafting sessions. She mentioned that our students were so well mannered and did a great job of sharing supplies and respecting the environment within which they were working. True Falcon Pride! Our teachers have also implemented a Get Caught Reading Program where students are recognized by their teachers for reading outside of the required times. So far we have had over 50 students caught reading. When the book fair arrives one student will be pulled from the nominations to receive a gift card for the fair. We are inspired by our students love of reading! Miss Katie Buzzelli, Principal Girls and boys in grades 3-8 who are interested in playing CYO basketball for St. Francis de Sales can register to play now through October 24th. Just go to the CYO tab on our parish website, Any questions you have should be directed to our parish Athletic Director, Kerri Defibaugh, at orangejett@gmail.com or via phone at Our parish will be joining in the 40 Days for Life by praying a rosary for life 20 minutes before each weekday Mass and after the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays. This goes from Wednesday, September 27th through Sunday, November 5th. Please try to join in on some of these rosaries to pray and sacrifice to restore a culture where there is respect for the dignity of each human life. WORLD MISSION SUNDAY 2017 Today is World Mission Sunday a day that leads us to the heart of our Christian faith leads us to mission! HOODIES FOR THE HOMELESS At this time of the year, Springtime of Hope is continually asked by our clients for a spare hoodie, coat or blanket to help them keep warm as the temperature drops.
