Put on the armour the Lord has provided Place your defence in His unfailing care Trust Him for He will be with you in battle Lighting your path to avoid every snare. In Christ Alone Stuart Townend & Keith Getty In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground, Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, When fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My comforter, my all in all, Here in the love of Christ I stand. There in the ground His body lay Light of the World by darkness slain: Then bursting forth in glorious day Up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory Sin s curse has lost its grip on me, For I am His and He is mine - Bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, This is the pow r of Christ in me; From life s first cry to final breath. Jesus commands my destiny. No pow r of hell, no scheme of man, Can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home, Here in the power of Christ I ll stand. Speak, O Lord Stuart Townend & Keith Getty Speak, O Lord, as we come to You To receive the food of Your Holy Word. Take Your truth, plant it deep in us; Shape and fashion us in Your likeness, That the light of Christ might be seen today In our acts of love and our deeds of faith. Speak, O Lord, and fulfil in us All Your purposes for Your glory. Teach us, Lord, full obedience, Holy reverence, true humility; Test our thoughts and our attitudes In the radiance of Your purity. Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see Your majestic love and authority. Words of power that can never fail Let their truth prevail over unbelief. Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds; Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us Truths unchanged from the dawn of time That will echo down through eternity. And by grace we ll stand on Your promises, And by faith we ll walk as You walk with us. Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built And the earth is filled with Your glory. Be strong in the Lord and be of good courage Your mighty Commander Will vanquish the foe Fear not the battle For the victory is always His He will protect you wherever you go. When a man asks a lady, Will you marry me? the word he is looking for is Yes! When we get diagnosed with an illness, the one word we long to hear is Yes, there is a cure. A fountain of gladness springs from within upon hearing this word. We live in a broken world, a world of broken promises. We may have been let down time and time again, and we feel as though any glimmer of optimism had been extinguished. And yet, the Scriptures remind us not to place our hope on temporal or earthly promises, but to marvel at how God keeps all His promises. For no matter how many promises God has made, they are Yes in Christ. And so through Him the Amen is spoken by us to the glory of God. (2 Cor 1:20). Through His Word, we know that God s promises are true, awesome, undeserved and unfailing. The knowledge of this truth is transformative, our joy springs forth not from a vantage point of any earthly promise, but from the greater eternal reality and hope in God through Jesus Christ. As we seek to live out God s promises in our everyday lives, the trials may still come, and it may not get easier. But in the midst of the challenges, a song of faith shall rise, with hopeful hearts we cry out to God all the more passionately and exclaim, Yes, Lord! Yes and Amen! 9 WesleyWeekly 9 Sermon Notes Wonder Rev Dr Chiang Ming Shun Wesley Sanctuary (12 Nov) Scripture Passage: Acts 14:1-7 Summary: Our God was and remains a God of wonders. The Methodist Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC) Vision comprises the five-core values of Word, Welcome, Worship, Witness and Wonder of God, of which the last is today s subject, and for too long rejected as illogical, unscientific, even superstitious. Throughout church history, resistance to change has met every reformation, beginning with Paul s first missionary journey when Jewish converts resented Gentile inclusion, failing to understand God s fulfillment of His promise that all the earth would be blessed by Abraham. (Gen 12:3) Yet, it was God s grace to manifest signs and wonders (v3); Acts alone recorded miracle after miracle. The Wesley brothers bore witness in Charles first hymn, O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing wherein the deaf hears, the dumb speaks, the blind sees and the lame leaps. John Wesley journalised a skeptic doctor s witness to an irrefutable healing of non-medical source. Today, unbelief runs deep. The speaker recounts meeting an active church member who rejected miracles, tongues, Jesus deity, possibly even God s very existence. Nearer home, the speaker testified of his grandmother s injuries of broken limbs and ribs from accident. After discharge from the hospital, one of her arms could not be lifted fully while one of her legs was significantly shorter. Her son lovingly took her to countless meeting for prayers. At a certain Pentecostal church, she received a miraculous healing with full restoration of the affected limbs. Her own husband and son, hitherto very nominally Christian, were both powerfully transformed. Her son is going on to gain a degree in theology. God s wonders are also worked at low drama, non-sensational levels, resulting in quiet but significant life changes, such as the apostles who continued to preach boldly in the face of danger to life and limb. (v3). How then, should we approach wonders in this age? The 1976 United Methodist Church guidelines are helpful. Pray. Be open and accepting of Christian experiences that differ. Be open to new ways God s Spirit may be speaking. Seek the gifts of the Spirit which enrich personally and ministerially. Recognise that possible abuse of gifts does not mean a blanket prohibition. Historically, all new movements have valid contributions. God is a God of wonders, spanning a spectrum from spectacularly public to splendidly private. Kwun Pillai Walking In The Supernatural Rev Barnabas Chong Wesley Hall (12 Nov) Scripture Passage: 1 Corinthians 1:17 Summary: When we walk in the supernatural, we are empowered by the grace and power of God to fulfill His destiny for our lives. What is God s destiny for us? It is to bring godly influence wherever we go, impacting lives and saving souls. God gave us the great commission (Matt 28) it is mandatory, not a suggestion or a proposal. So walking in the supernatural, not just about signs and wonders, but ultimately about saving souls. 1 Corinthians 1:17 says that our primary calling is to preach the gospel. The power is in the messenger it has to do with his/her walk with God, not merely about his/her way of speaking and preaching. Walking in the supernatural involves the following: 1. Divine Revelation To walk in the supernatural, we have to walk according to God s revelation. God often spoke to His servants in the Old Testament (1 Sam 3:10), and His sheep know His voice (Jn 10:27). The key problem in church is that His sheep do not hear God s voice, which is why we often get ourselves into trouble. While we all hear God differently, He doesn t often speak through an audible voice. The Holy Spirit may lead you to thrilling situations and drilling circumstances thrilling when there are spiritual victories like healing the sick, and drilling like when the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted. Whatever the situation, we are never alone. 2. Extreme Generosity Give till they say WOW! And give till you say OUCH! When someone is extremely and excessively generous, it is supernatural. The New Testament principle for giving is to give cheerfully and sacrificially (Lk 21:3), and Acts 1:35 reminds us that it is more blessed to give than to receive. 3. Resolute Holiness Holiness is what you do when no one is watching. It is easy to be holy when other Christians are around. Make every effort to add to your faith: goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection and love (2 Pet 1:5-8). If you do not increase in these seven traits, you will be increasingly ineffective and unproductive. Finally, when you walk in the supernatural, the presence of God goes where you go, touches whatever you touch and blesses whomever you bless. Unintentionally, you may sometimes get a nudging to do the right thing at the right time and that is how God accomplishes some things. Sermon Notes Yong Ai Lei

16 16 WesleyWeekly Ministry Programme Are you hungry for more of God s Word? Registration for DISCIPLE classes in 2018 is now open. TRANSFORMATIONAL, NOT JUST INFORMATIONAL DISCIPLE 1 (34 sessions) The foundational overview - this first DISCIPLE Bible study serves as the basis for all other studies in the DISCIPLE family that follow. Over the course of 34 weeks, DISCIPLE covers the entire Bible (Old and New Testaments), following the biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem. Monday Group pm commencing 5 Feb 2018 Tuesday Group pm commencing 6 Feb 2018 Thursday Group pm commencing 8 Feb 2018 Saturday Group pm commencing 10 Feb 2018 For over 25 years, DISCIPLE has set a standard for in-depth Bible study and has transformed the lives of individuals and groups in many parts of the world. The course moves through the biblical story from creation in Genesis to the New Jerusalem in Revelation. There are theme words and verses, key characters, and topics that give participants a clear perspective of the sequence of biblical events that took place. Testimony "DISCIPLE has been a most rewarding journey in opening up my eyes to see the wonders of God's Word. I like how the content is organised into themes making the readings more digestible, it has transformed the way that I encounter the Word." Emmie Ong (D1 - Class of 2017) Thus for me, the DISCIPLE programme hasn t so much been a course or programme but rather a loving communal journey in knowing who God is and what captivates His heart. I was born to a Christian family and I ve been a beneficiary of the Methodist mission since I was a child, but God has used the DISCIPLE journey to truly unveil my eyes to the unassailable love that he has for me and his people; a passion that is both personal and communal. I think I can finally say, without reservation or linguistic gymnastics, that God is love, and He loves me. Ian Kwan (D1 - Class of 2017) DISCIPLE Bible Study classes are conducted weekly in small groups. Each session begins with a short DVD presentation, followed by discussions between participants, and their group facilitator. As part of the course, participants will receive a study manual and must commit to a daily personal Bible reading (minimum 30mins daily) and journaling. DISCIPLE 2 (32 sessions) This 32-week study offers a deeper examination of Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts, emphasising the rhythm of coming to God and going for God approaching all experiences of life as opportunities for faithful witness and service. Monday Group pm commencing 5 Feb 2018 Tuesday Group pm commencing 6 Feb 2018 DISCIPLE 3 (32 sessions) In the Old Testament Prophets and the Letters of Paul, this 32-week study examines the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. Participants will find common themes, including the call to remember, the call to repent, the call for renewal and the call for community. Monday Group pm commencing 5 Feb 2018 Thursday Group pm commencing 8 Feb 2018 DISCIPLE 4 (32 sessions) The phrase under the tree of life conveys the promise of finding shelter, security and rest in God s love. In this 32-week study of the Old Testament writings, the Gospel of John, the Epistles of John, James, Jude and finally, Revelation, participants will see the entire process of living toward final completion of rest and reward. Monday Group pm commencing 5 Feb 2018 Cost - $25 (for course materials). Limited places available. Only those who have completed DISCIPLE 1 may register for DISCIPLE 2, 3, or 4. 17 WesleyWeekly 17 Bible Reading Drive 2018 From a humble idea to encourage every Wesleyan to inculcate the Spiritual Discipline of reading the Scripture daily and thereby to Grow in Christ, the Bible Reading Drive (BRD) was developed in our Church. It has been two years since. For those of you who have joined us in this BRD expedition, my heartiest congratulations for your faithfulness and I pray that it has been a wonderful spiritual journey. BRD 2018 As we enter 2018, our Church will be focusing on Building Community, but that does not mean that we stop Growing in Christ. On the contrary, the three focus areas are meant to build upon each other though our implementation might seem linear. This means that as we Build Community in 2018, we want to continue to Grow in Christ. With that in mind, we have developed a new three-year reading plan to continue with our Bible Reading Drive from 2018 to This reading plan is developed in-house by Wesleyans, for Wesleyans. Our reading plan will coincide and supplement our Church s major events and initiatives so as to give us a spiritual perspective of our activities. We have also consciously made the daily reading as short as possible to allow us to meditate, reflect, encounter and be transformed by the Holy Spirit. In 2018, our reading plan will focus on Paul s epistles. As we strive to Build Community, let us learn from Apostle Paul how we can live a life worthy of obeying our Lord Jesus command to love one another (John 15:12). May I encourage every Wesleyan to join us as we go on another BRD expedition in the next three years to read the Scripture, obey His Word and be transformed by His Spirit. To God be the Glory!
