1 THE CALLER A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2015 EDITION Little Galilee Sunday August 9, 2015 We offered FREE camp this summer and we had some takers who had an awesome experience. Join us on Sunday, August 9 for Little Galilee Sunday. Bob Phillips will be speaking at both services. During Sunday School, we will get to hear some testimonials and find out how we can partner with the camp. I loved hearing my daughter sing the songs from camp for weeks after camp and seeing her excited about reading her Bible. Thank you Little Galilee. - Nick (parent of camper) God s Word is life to our souls. God s Word is a light to our path. God s Word is righteousness to those who follow it. God s Word is a refuge. God s Word is eternal. God s Word is salvation. Focus on God s Word with us.

2 NICK S NOTES I feel as though I have awakened in Bizarro World. Bizarro is a character from Superman who is the exact opposite of Superman. In the Bizarro world of "htrae" ("Earth" spelled backwards), society is ruled by the Bizarro Code which states "Us do opposite of all Earthly things! Us hate beauty! Us love ugliness! Is big crime to make anything perfect on Bizarro World!" In one episode, for example, a salesman is doing a brisk trade selling Bizarro bonds: "Guaranteed to lose money for you. ( Everything seems backwards to me a dead lion is worth destroying the life of the one who shot it but no one cares about the 11 week fetus that is sold for parts. We boo when someone says that all lives matter. We care more about terrorists than for our fallen soldiers. Little girls are sold as sex slaves. Someone who deflated footballs gets the same suspension of someone who beats his wife. It s no longer freedom of religion, but freedom from religion. You get punished for doing the right thing. The louder you gripe the more you get your way. Men are women and women are men. Sin is life and righteousness is death. It s all backwards! My head hurts just thinking about it. It s Bizarro World! I can t take it anymore! I can t stand what we have become and how backward our thinking is. I feel as though resistance is futile, but then I remember: Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:10-12) We have to stand together against the schemes of the devil. He has darkened our eyes and dulled our senses and we have awakened in Bizarro World. Let s stand for life! We have to stop sacrificing precious unborn children at the altar of free sex and the almighty dollar. We have to speak up and say enough is enough. We have to be faithful to God and live out His wisdom in a Bizarro World. We have to love the unloved, plead the case of the innocent and serve the suffering. In other words, we need to live like Jesus and watch the world be turned upside down or right side up. Nick

3 MINISTRY TEAMS Adult Bible Studies on Sunday Mornings at 9:15 AM Everyone is invited to join us for Saffron coffee and donuts (with a slight donation requested) from 9:00-9:15 in the Fellowship Hall and then attend one of the following studies... Journey Through the New Testament - Led by Nick Oyler in Nick s Office. We have made it to the Gospel of Luke and we will be studying chapters during the month of August. Join us on our journey. Joseph-How God Builds Character-Led by Ryan Woodard in the Fellowship Hall. Women of the Bible -Led by Pam Smith in the Library. All Ladies Welcome. Discovering the trials and triumphs of the women of the Bible. Standard Lesson - Led by Larry McMullen in the Cafe Devo area. Softball time is here!!! First game of the tournament is Tuesday, August 4th at 9:00 pm on diamond #1 Our windows are in disrepair and are in need of replacing. We are asking the families in our congregation to adopt a window. You can sign up for a window Today. We will be replacing 38 windows. All the windows that we are replacing have a sign up sheet on them with the price for that window. You can go in with other families to adopt a window. We have three different window prices. Most of our windows will be fixed and will not open, however we will have 6 that will be able to open for ventilation. We also have two windows that are a larger size which accounts for the price difference. We will be taking pledges for the next 2 Sundays and will start collecting the money on August 23. You don t have to give it in one lump sum. Mark it on your envelope or on the memo line of the check. Thank you for your help.

4 CHILDREN S MINISTRY kidcity Elementary Series: Sometimes it s easy to know the wise choice. You probably know by now that a healthy breakfast of fruit, yogurt, and granola is a wiser choice than the greasy, fastfood goodness of a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. It may pain you because you love a good breakfast from a fast-food joint, but you know that the healthy choice is the wise choice. But what happens when the wise choice isn t as easy to spot? Maybe you re deciding between a few great job opportunities or figuring out the best neighborhood to raise your family. You weigh the pros and the cons of each choice and seek guidance from wise people. You even take time to pray about it. And in the end, you trust that the choice you made is best. As parents and leaders, we ve learned this over time. But our kids are just starting their journey of discovering wisdom, and unfortunately, our choices aren t always cut and dry. As our kids grow up, they ll soon learn that not every decision they ll have to make is as clear as we might wish. That s why giving kids a strong foundation of wisdom is important. We want them to be equipped to face whatever choices they may encounter in the future, so we re taking the next several weeks to talk about wisdom. We define wisdom as finding out what you should do and doing it. Wisdom is valuable. We re hoping to help kids dig deep into the Bible and discover some of God s wisdom along the way that will help them in the years to come. After all, finding wisdom isn t that difficult all you have to do is look. kidcity Pre-K Series: We re beginning our year with a review of all three basic truths. This month telling preschoolers that God made them. He made their hands, their eyes, their feet. He made each and every part of them. The second week, we ll explain that not only did He make them, but He has a plan for them. He has a special plan for everyone! Then, preschoolers will hear the story of the lost coin and how God loves them even more than the woman loved her coin. God loves them so much and will always seek them. Finally, they will hear how God loved them so much that He sent Jesus to be their friend forever. Jesus is an amazing friend and loves each and every one of us so much. We ll finish off the month with fun review games and activities. Our kid city team will be praying for you to have moments filled with wonder as you give preschoolers a "first look" at the God who loves them, made them, and wants to be their friend forever.

5 YOUTH MINISTRY SUNDAY MORNING EXPERIENCE 9:15-10:15am Connect-18 is AWESOME! Jr. & Sr. High students have a new space just for them to Connect. We have enlisted some awesome volunteers to lead this 18 week series: Larry Haynes, Carlee & Brody Woodard and Georgianne DuPage. The students have been challenged weekly to get into God s Word to accomplish the B-90 challenge. They have read through the Bible in 90 days and are being rewarded with a trip to Six Flags. We have to give special props to Kayla Gerhardt for completing the challenge early. Connect 18 Service Projects: All Jr/High students welcome Food Church Tuesday, August 4 12:30-3:00 (See Barb Angle or Georgianne DuPage) Operation Christmas Child Road Trip, Wednesday August 12 9am-3pm The Words of God for the Summer Series are from Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. UPCOMING EVENTS September 13 th is National Go Back To Church Day and we are celebrating it with a special day. We will kick off our new series called Welcome Home. Mark your calendar and plan to invite guests!

IMAGINE. - Ephesians 3: Calendar of Events The Hive-Saturday, September 19th Christmas Sweets for Seniors - December 17th A Special Grief Camp For Kids October 3rd KOURAGE KIDS camp offers children and teens a full day of support and fun. Your child will learn valuable tools to help them grieve in a healthy way, while connecting with other children who have also lost a loved one. Registration deadline is September 15, Space is limited so please register early. This camp is provided FREE of charge to children who have lost a loved one. We ve been trying to utilize our Facebook page for daily inspiration, conversation and information. We've been posting daily inspirational scriptures and info for events. It has gone over really well, but we still need your help. We would ask that you like our Facebook page and if each day you would like the post and hit share so all of your friends can see it. Facebook is a great place for us to connect our church with people that are far from church and the Lord. This really is a great tool for ministry and we appreciate all of your prayers and help.
