2 Christmas: A PROMISE MADE AND A PROMISE KEPT And Mary said He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his offspring forever. Luke 1:54-55 What can be called the supreme example of fulfilled prophecy in the entire Bible is the birth of Jesus Christ, or when the Word of God became flesh. It was the fulfillment of a covenant that God made to Abraham when he was told that in his seed all the world would be blessed (Genesis 12:3). This is what Mary realized after the archangel Gabriel had visited her and informed her that she would bear a child, and that He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. Luke 1:32-33 Jesus would later affirm that he was the fulfillment of this promise to Abraham when he states in John 8:56, Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad. It would be a time when the taking of burnt offerings, meal offerings, with the sacrifices of animals being killed, and blood being shed and offered would finally come to an end. Rather than sins covered, they could now be forgiven through a single sacrifice by the Lamb of God, Jesus. What does this mean to us that God sent his Son into the world? It tells us that because God kept this promise to Abraham, it is a down payment to an absolute guarantee He will do everything He has ever promised. Take Romans 8:28-29, And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose. How do we know this is true? Because God became flesh and was faithful to His promise of providing a redeemer for us as sinners. So when Jesus tells us in John 3:16 that God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life, that promise is true. In Hebrews 13:5 when Jesus states, I will never leave you nor forsake you, it means He will not. God will not and has never failed in His promises. Grandparents were treated to an all-school chapel, lunch and photos with their student and an opportunity to attend classes and meet teachers and friends. New this year was a high school music concert on the night before Grandparents Day. Grandparents are a blessing from the Lord and we are so thankful for their legacy of faithfulness to the next generation.

4 30 YEARS WITH The Ambassador For more than three decades, Lincoln Christian has been taking elementary students to The Ambassador of Lincoln so they can experience the blessing of making new friends of all ages. We are grateful to our partners at The Ambassador for granting us this unique opportunity to learn from our brothers and sisters in Christ. TEACHER OF THE MONTH The Lincoln East Rotary Club recently recognized Sue Malcom, Honors English and grades English instructor, as Teacher of the Month. Along with her 15 years at LCS, she has also taught at Epworth Village in York, performed community service at Sylvan Learning Center and is active at First Nazarene Church in Lincoln. Lincoln Christian students visiting The Ambassador in Sue consistently goes above and beyond for her students. She meets each individual where they are and moves them forward at their own pace, all the while staying within the same curriculum. She has a gift for helping select literature that inspires students to go beyond just the standard assignment. Congratulations to Mrs. Malcom for this well-deserved honor!

5 Alumni Corner LCS GRADS ON MISSION FOR CHRIST Mark Voss and Monica (Sperling) Voss graduated from Lincoln Christian School in 1990 and 1996, respectively. As church-planting global missionaries for almost 20 years, they have made disciples of Jesus Christ in many places including Nebraska, Arizona, Texas, Costa Rica, Honduras and, now, Colombia. Last year, within the most dangerous neighborhood of the most dangerous city, Taguicigalpo, God gave them the opportunity to lead to Christ the most infamous gang leader in Honduras. That might seem like a long way from 84th and Old Cheney, but they simply do what they were taught and saw modeled consistently by those at Lincoln Christian: to learn, prepare and pray. Even though the Vosses have since moved to a much safer city in Columbia, they recently had their first extortion threat as missionaries. No matter how cosmopolitan their adopted country becomes, the world still remains a very dark place. Jesus told His disciples, You are the light of the world. LCS family, your neighbors in Lincoln, your relatives in Lancaster County and your fellow Husker fans around the United States need you to shine your light for Jesus Christ. We thank God for the Vosses answering the call to be on the frontlines for reaching the lost. Currently, the Voss family lives in the sweltering, tropical Great Plains of Colombia within an agribusiness community very much like Lincoln. They have two young, bilingual children: son Reagan and daughter Clarissa Elena. Monica evangelizes and disciples neighborhood Colombian women mothers of their children s schoolmates and contacts from their local church. To make as many white-collar and blue-collar gospel contacts as possible, Mark administrates within a Colombian nonprofit organization that reaches out to marginalized communities. He also serves alongside a beloved Colombian pastor/evangelist, preaching and teaching from house to house and in weekend church services.

6 CROSS COUNTRY BOYS TENNIS VOLLEYBALL The boys tennis team had a season of growing and challenging each other on the courts. The team was coached by Lucas Megrue, and the young men had a great season representing Lincoln Christian. Congratulations to the entire team and Coach Megrue. A young Crusaders volleyball team battled hard throughout the fall season, playing a schedule against many of the state-qualifying finalists. Great job to the coaches and players on representing Christ and the school in manner worthy of our Savior. Congratulations to both the boys and girls cross country teams (and coaches Mark Canfield and Noel Timmons) on an outstanding season. Collette Williams placed second overall in the Class C state meet held in Kearney. Individual state qualifiers included senior Mary Wood and juniors Kylee Canfield and Collette Williams. Team qualifiers were freshmen Olivia Burgher and Grace Harmon and junior Rachel Van Cott. The girls team placed ninth overall at the state meet on Oct. 24. CSN Catch your Lincoln Christian Crusader boys and girls basketball teams on the Crusader Sports Network at lincolnchristianathletics.org. All home games will be televised. FOOTBALL The Lincoln Christian football team had another great year, highlighted by the leadership of our seniors. Though the team missed the playoffs, they grew significantly from the challenges they experienced and overcame, including several injuries and a formidable schedule.

7 DRAMA This fall, the high school drama students performed The Complete History of the Old Testament in Twenty Minutes with two public shows at The Prairie Creek Inn barn. They competed for conference and district one act and received superior ratings. Honorable mentions include Hannah-Rose Austin, Alex Bond, Faith Haase, Karissa Negley, Simon Wegrzyn and Collette Williams. ALL-STATE MUSICIANS Three Lincoln Christian students were selected for the All-State competition that took place just before Thanksgiving break. Congratulations to senior Amanda Bond (trumpet), junior Abbey Powell (choir) and junior Coco Eschliman (violin). MATH COMPETITION The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Math Day was held on Nov. 20, and 38 students from Lincoln Christian attended. This was a great showing, putting Lincoln Christian in second place out of all four classes for the best-represented school. All the students took a problem-solving test called the PROBE, and LCS placed second in its class, with top scores from Zehao Song, Yuqi He and Haiyue Li. The quiz bowl team did not place, but it won six of the eight rounds in which it participated. Quiz bowl team members were Zehao Song, Joshua Lu, Haiyue Li and Sam Bashford. MARCHING BAND The high school band had a highly successful marching season. It competed at the Lincoln High Links contest, where it received an excellent rating and a second-place trophy. The drumline brought home first place. The band also competed at Oxbow Marching Contest, where it brought home the superior trophy. A final marching exhibition at home wrapped up the season.

8 Discover SCIENCE The Elementary Science Symposium During the week of Nov , LCS hosted a pair of special science-related chapels, including Brian Young from the Creation Instruction Association. The grand finale and highlight of the week was on Friday, when astronaut and Nebraskan Clayton Anderson visited the classrooms, gave the keynote address and presented the science fair project winners. Congratulations to our elementary science students and to all of our hard-working teachers, parents and students on an excellent job and for making the Science Symposium a huge success.

9 MODERN WOODMEN GIVE GENEROUSLY TO LCS ELEMENTARY Book Fair In October, Clifford the Dog stopped in and visited the elementary book fair. Lincoln Christian began a new reading program this year called Foundations and Frameworks. The program offers lots of challenging-butrewarding work for our students. We are excited to see how God will continue to use this program to grow our students into thinkers and communicators who will shine for Him. On Oct. 10, Modern Woodmen of America gave three trees to the Lincoln Christian School community. Members of the Lincoln Modern Woodmen Chapter Kathy Moser and Jeri (Vallicot) Moser, LCS Class of 2001 helped plant maple trees just north and west of the elementary school. The project is part of the Plant-a-Tree Program, allowing Modern Woodmen members to give a lasting gift to their communities. Modern Woodmen has planted thousands of trees across the United States during the last 10 years. Lincoln Christian School also celebrated the opening of a new grass elementary play field just south of the elementary playground. Thank you to Chad and Craig Hansen and All About Grass for making this playground area a reality for our students.

10 Veterans Day The entire Lincoln Christian student body more than 600 students gathered together for a time to reflect and honor our nation s heroes in an all-school assembly on Nov. 11. We were blessed to have approximately 40 veterans join us for the assembly. Sgt. 1st Class Chris Harmon, 1992 Lincoln Christian alum, gave the keynote address. Chris has been deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan and shared some of the challenges facing families in the military. God bless everyone who contributed to this special day and to all the veterans for your sacrifice and service to protect the United States of America ADMISSIONS AND ENROLLMENT UPDATE 647 Up Current Enrollment from 644 in 2013 Even amidst economic struggle, Lincoln Christian School continues to be blessed by the many families who not only support us, but also recognize the value of Christian education. In January, we will be rolling out our new Admissions Campaign, giving visitors the opportunity to view the campus, shadow, tour and get a firsthand glimpse of the excellence of Lincoln Christian School. We will also be hosting another free Winter Family Movie Event at Edgewood Cinema on Jan. 24, so be sure to mark your calendars for this fun day for the whole family! 92% From Retention Rate last year

11 24th ANNUAL LINCOLN CHRISTIAN SCHOOL FOUNDATION BENEFIT Gala & Auction On Nov. 21, Lincoln Christian celebrated its 24th annual auction, Let Your Light Shine. The theme comes from Matthew 5:16, In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven. More than 230 Lincoln Christian supporters shared a special night of fellowship and fun at the brand-new University of Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center. Many blessings were provided by our Lord, including meeting and exceeding the Fund-a-Need goal of raising grant tuition for 25 students we watched Him provide funding for 34. The auction raised just more than $200,000 for the school, and we are so thankful for all that God has done over the past 24 Lincoln Christian School Foundation auctions.
