As we enter the season of Spring when we focus on replanting and replenishing our gardens, it is my hope that the gift of the Risen Christ will refresh our spiritual gardens. There was emphasis on the involvement of the youth and multicultural groups. Bishop Brewer in his address challenged us to pray and ponder with the question what is God s mission for you both at a personal and a congregation level?...we are not here by chance. The ECW was one of many organizations / companies that had a display table with brochures explaining our various activities /affiliations. The priests who came by showed an interest in the Women of Vision (WOV) program which is a scripturally based leadership skill development program. The Altar Guild also had a display table. 3 Episcochat News 3 St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, Vero Beach Women of Vision Training To follow through on what God has called me to do. More service not only to my church but my community. To try to be closer to God & interact more with newer people of the church. These are just a few comments participants made about the January 16, Women of Vision training at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church in Vero Beach. Approximately 56 participants attended the training session. The facility was quite nice and easily accommodated such a large group. The local Eastern Star chapter handled continental breakfast and lunch. This was very helpful as it freed the members of the church to focus on their guests. A wonderful addition to the training was a service leaflet created by Fr. Michael Goldberg with morning, noon and early evening prayers and hymns tailored to the training. Deborah Henson-Governor and I served as co-facilitators. To make this a one-day training we used four modules instead of the six available: Module One: Building the Foundation; Module Four: Identifying My Talents, Skills and Gifts; Module Five: Practicing the Circular Model Shaping the Future; and Module Six: Getting Our Act Together and Taking it on the Road. Women of Vision is a scripturally-based leadership development program. The training is inter-active and uses several self -assessments to help in your discernment. The ECW Board of Central Florida is offering this program to interested churches and will tailor it to meet your needs. If your church thinks this training would be helpful to its growth, contact Deborah Henson-Governor (hensongovernor@gmail.com) who is our 2 nd Vice President and is in charge of training. 4 Episcochat News 4 ST. Francis of Assisi, Lake Placid On April 2, 2016 we had a Luau Fashion Show. Our hall was decorated in so many bright colors it looked beautiful. We had bowls of floating flowers as our centerpieces and our napkins had hula girls in the middle of them. We sold tickets for many door prizes and an opportunity table with donated gifts and gift baskets.. We also had a lovely chicken and rice dinner with pineapple ring with mandarin oranges and a cherry on Boston lettuce and Hawaiian rolls. For dessert we made Mandarin cake with whipped frosting and crushed pineapples.. The clothing line was from Tiffany's Resort Wear. She brought the clothes to us. We not only had female models but some of the men in our Men's club dressed up in the outfits they found at the thrift shop. They looked beautiful and they were so much fun. A few days after the fashion show some of the Church ladies went on a tour and lunch to Camp Wingman. We had a great time and a wonderful lunch. During that tour we learned that they were having an adopt-a-bed program. After our tour we had a meeting and decided to give Camp Wingman a donation. We went back out to the Camp and met with Father Deke and took a picture of us presenting him with a check in front of one of the renovated cabins. It gave us so much pleasure to be able to give to this program and to see the work that this camp does for the children that attend. 6 Episcochat News 6 Church of the Advent, Dunnellon CHURCH OF THE ADVENT ECW Submitted by Gloria Wilberg We have a small, but active group of women at Church of the Advent. This year, we held our annual Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner in March. Mary Daniels and Elizabeth Herrick, along with a group of other volunteers, do the cooking, and many of us help with other aspects of the event. This year, Fr. Ladd Harris offered his services and was a great help with getting the meat ready and then slicing it after it was cooked. The dinner was enjoyed by about 80 guests and was followed by an Irish music sing -along. We are now planning a spring mystery luncheon to be held on Saturday, May 14. Guests will be served a catered lunch consisting of soup, salad, and a turkey club wrap, followed by birthday cake to honor one of the members of the cast. It s her character s birthday and a group has gathered at the Murder Café to celebrate. Murder and mayhem follow, and the meal is served between scenes in the play. Our resident director, Gordon Herrick, is in charge of the play and lunch will be catered by Bob Evans. Gordon has directed a number of these events in the past and they re always a lot of silliness and fun. Advent ECW will be hosting a meeting of the Northwest Deanery ECW on Saturday, April 30. Fr. Ron Chrisner will say mass and also do a one-man show presentation of a Biblical character associated with the Crucifixion. We will be electing a new slate of officers at our next meeting in June. Candidates are as follows: President Debbie Milliron, Vice President Eve Gillespie, Treasurer Nancy Lillard, Secretary Gloria Wilberg, Chaplain Elizabeth Herrick, Publicity Nancy McGuckin, UTO/CPC Chairman Mary Daniels. In other church news, Church of the Advent is in the process of completing work on a new outdoor Stations of the Cross Memorial Garden that was consecrated by Bishop Brewer during his visitation on Palm Sunday. It had already been used for our weekly Friday noon Stations service during Lent. It s located in a partially shaded area in front of the building and all of the cost has come from donations in memory of loved ones and volunteer labor to install it. The garden is anchored by a large Celtic cross at one end, and the beautiful full-color stations are on posts that are at eye level for people walking on the sidewalk around them. There will also be several benches installed so that people can rest along the way. All of the work involved was done by members of Advent, assisted by our resident Boy Scout Troop 508. The azalea garden landscaping in the center was the project of an Eagle Scout candidate from another local troop. This is our second Memorial Garden. The original one is located in a beautiful shaded area behind the building and it holds the cremains of members who have passed into eternal life.

7 Chaplain s Corner 7 Chaplain s Reflections Stir Up the Gifts of the Spirit is our annual focus and as we encounter the wonders of spring, I m acutely aware of the variety of ways that our senses are being stirred up. Pollen from all blooming plants fill the air and are being carried in the currents of cold fronts, warm breezes and afternoon showers. Birds sing and flit from tree to pasture on their migration routes and fledglings begin to waddle after their parents. Bees are buzzing about in our pasture as they stock their combs with golden honey to nurture one selected bee into a queen. Wildflowers and vines blanket the roadsides, trees and shrubs are full of caterpillars, and so each of God s unique creatures continues its mission of spreading His presence and fulfilling their life s work. All around us we see the Handiwork of God and give Him thanks that we too, are partners in this miracle of being moved by the Spirit, sharing our gifts, by caring and providing sustenance for families, friends and sojourners in our spheres of influence. Shalom for each of us as we are moved by the Holy Spirit to minister by our gifts of love and labor. Our sisters of the past started a great club for the less fortunate therefore we must strive to continue this wonderful Christian service. 12 Episcochat 12 Altar Guild The ALTAR GUILD is one of the most essential and often most invisible ministries of the church. Its primary purpose is to prepare for celebrations of the Holy Eucharist and other sacraments of the church. The Altar Guild sets the table for the Eucharistic Feast. The Altar Guild s work provides both order and beauty for worship services. This is a very special ministry that we offer to Our Lord, as we prepare for His presence among us. Sometimes the ALTAR GUILD includes a FLOWER GUILD, a LINEN SEWING GUILD, and/or a WEDDING GUILD. The FLOWER GUILD prepares the Altar flowers each week and decorates the church for special occasions like Palm Sunday, Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other festivals. The LINEN SEWING GUILD makes and repairs the Altar linens. This ministry uses their skill of fine hand sewing and embroidery to supply the linens used throughout the church and chapel. Some Linen Sewing Guilds now use sewing machines to make their linens. The WEDDING GUILD assists with all the details of the weddings and helps ensure the wedding runs smoothly. This ministry helps make the day a memorable and holy occasion. The Diocesan Altar Guild newsletter advises churches and Altar Guilds on subjects that make their ministry easier and more effective. Annual meetings are held to provide workshops and an opportunity to meet and learn from Altar Guild members from other churches. Judy Henderson, Altar Guild Directress Who We Are We are Episcopal Church Women of all ages, ethnic origins and socioeconomic backgrounds who hold a variety of views. However, the common denominator of our members is love of God and the wish to do His work. Let us not forget the lessons from the past nor fear the challenges of the future. Anoint us with your grace and shine in our hearts as we reflect your light throughout the world. Amen.
