Min., PhD Recently, I received a promotional from the lead singer of U2, Paul David Bono Hewson, known to many as Bono. Bono has long been involved in a variety of causes. His work as an activist, due largely to his Christian beliefs, began in earnest when, inspired by Live Aid, he traveled to Ethiopia to work in a feeding camp with his wife Ali and the charity World Vision. 1 In the I received was a letter Bono sent to Congress and attached was a petition. He discussed the famine in Somalia that has caused the death of over 30,000 children in 3 months with over 12 million people at risk. In the 21 st century, as Bono has stated, it s an obscenity that people are dying because they can t get enough food to eat. This, however, is not only a tragedy in Somalia but right here in Philadelphia. My wonderful colleague at Lutheran Theological Seminary, Katie Day, shared with me, after our faculty meeting, a post card that hopefully will help our city address this crisis. Dr. Day has been fighting tirelessly along with many others to address the hunger crisis in Philadelphia and I join in this struggle with her. 1 in 4 Philadelphians live below the poverty line, including 1 in 3 children. Nearly 500,000 people in Philadelphia and 1 million in the region are now relying on food cupboards. Every month our church s Food Cupboard Ministry feed more than 2,000 people. I am asking each member to complete the Hunger Is No Longer a Silent Crisis postcard and place it in the necessary basket after service. Thank you for making a difference on such an important issue. John 5:6, 8 NRSV The Church of the Redeemer Baptist Missions Ministry Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Mission Statement The purpose of The Church of the Redeemer Baptist Mission Ministry is to mobilize the people and resources of Redeemer s community of believers into a God-centered service of compassionate evangelism, discipleship and mutual caring for one another with the focus being towards the unsaved and unreached. Vision Statement Our vision is to develop global mission awareness in our congregation through a process of education, so that they can aid in spreading the Gospel of Christ. We will function as a missionary outreach for the unsaved to bring them to the saving knowledge of our Risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Our goal is to provide faithbased assistance and restoration to the whole man. Redeemer s Mission Ministry will provide Christ-centered training and education to the laborers to equip them for this service that was commanded by Christ in Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8. MISSIONS MINISTRY S FOCUS FOR THE MONTH The Redeemer Renaissance Community Development Corporation (RRCDC). This organization has been addressing the needs of the homeless population and housing conditions since November Your contributions will go towards their vision of providing housing for women and children at the Taylor Street location. Here they will receive personal and interpersonal skill development and mentoring. Remember this: For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me (Matthew 25:35-36) NIV Will you answer the call?

4 Mission Statement A Christian Church is a company of regenerate persons, baptized on a profession of faith in Christ, united in covenant for worship, instruction, the observance of Christian ordinances, and for such service as the gospel requires; recognizing and accepting Christ as their supreme Lord and Lawgiver, and taking His Word as their only sufficient rule of faith in all matters of conscience and religion. The Church of the Redeemer Baptist shall be a place to worship, a place devoted to community activities and affairs, a place to embrace and enrich the total life of man spiritually, politically, educationally, socially, morally and economically. Building Together in Faith To build a house for God and God s people to worship, fellowship, disciple, educate and serve. Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God. Go and build the sanctuary of the Lord God so that the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God may be brought into a house built for the name of the Lord. SERMON REFLECTIONS PREACHER: Reverend Dr. Wayne E. Croft, Sr. TITLE: Dare to Imagine Series Imagining A Growing Faith TEXT: Mark 7:31-37 What was the main thought of the Sermon? How will I apply what I have learned from this sermon to my life? I Chronicles 22:19 NRSV.and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: Praise the Lord!! Please be mindful that we are in the House of the Most High God and as we reverence Him, we are asking everyone to respect His house, the Sanctuary, and your Brothers and Sisters by not snacking, drinking, talking loud, texting or allowing children to do so.

6 SCRIPTURE READING Psalm 1 1 Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; 2 but their delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law they meditate day and night. 3 They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that thy do, they prosper. 4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6 for the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Financial Fitness: Generosity Reaps Generosity by Rick Warren The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. Proverbs 11:24 (Msg) If I sow generosity, it's going to come back to me, and I'm going to reap generosity. Every farmer knows this. A farmer has sacks of seed in his barn and he looks at his empty field. He doesn't complain, "There's no crop! I wish there was a crop!" He just goes out and starts planting seed. When you have a need, plant a seed. It seems illogical that when I have a need, I should give. Why did God set it up this way? Because God is a giver. He is the most generous giver in the universe, and God wants you to learn to be like him. He wants to build character in you. The Bible says, Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce (Proverbs 3:9 NLT). This is the principle of tithing. It's the principle that says every time I make $ the first $10 goes back to God. Tithing is an act of worship. We're giving to God. We're saying, "All of it came from you anyway." God says, "Put me first in your life and watch what I do." You may think you can't afford to tithe, but the reality is, you can't afford not to tithe. NRSV
