1 THE CHURCH OF THE REDEEMER BAPTIST REVEREND WAYNE E. CROFT, SR., D. Min., PhD SENIOR PASTOR SUNDAY, JANUARY 17, A Church in the Word, under the cross, ministering to the world. The Church of the Redeemer Baptist 1440 South 24th Street Redeemer Christian Life & Education Center Dickinson Street Phone: (215) Fax: (215) info@thechurchoftheredeemerbaptist.org Website: Staff Directory Rev. Valerie Andrews.... x102...church Business Manager Bro. William Boyd.... x Facility Engineer Sis. Deborah Cotten... x Security Rev. Dr. Wayne E. Croft, Sr. x107. Senior Pastor Sis. Tobin Young x108...assistant Pastor Martin Luther King, Jr I have a dream today that one day little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. August 28, 1963

2 I have the audacity to believe that people everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality and freedom for their spirits. I believe that what self-centered men have torn down, men other-centered can build up. I still believe that one day mankind will bow before the altars of God and be crowned triumphant over war and bloodshed, and nonviolent redemptive goodwill will proclaim the rule of the land I still believe that we shall overcome. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Noble Prize Acceptance Speech, Dec. 10, 1965 Every January, our nation honors the memory of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (This year) On Martin Luther King Jr., Day, we have an opportunity to celebrate the strides our country has made in the ongoing struggle for civil rights and a chance to pause and reflect on all of those who sacrificed their lives for the sacred cause of equality. I never met Dr. King neither (nor) was I old enough to be aware of the Civil Rights Movement as it took place in the 1960 s, however, Dr. King s life has in many ways touched my life and has changed the world I live in. It is without doubt that America needed a Martin Luther King, Jr. The significant qualities of this special man cannot be underestimated nor (neither) taken for granted. Within a span of 13 years from 1955 to his death in 1968 he was able to expound, expose, and extricate America from many wrongs. His tactics of protest involved non-violent passive resistance to racial injustice. It was the right prescription for our country and it was right on time. Hope in America was waning on the part of many African Americans, but Martin Luther King, Jr., provided a candle along with a light. He also provided this nation with a road map so that all people could locate and share together in the abundance of this great democracy. We honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., because he showed us the way to mend those broken fences and to move on in building this land rather than destroying it. The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., inspires me to always think about the least of these and to fight until justice roll(s) down like water and righteousness; like an ever-flowing stream. This King Day provides us with the opportunity: to renew our commitment to Dr. King s audacious vision of a world in which all of God s children, blacks and whites, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, Free at least, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last. May you enjoy this day, embrace the vision, and honor the legacy of a prophet. As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day let us not forget our brothers and sisters in Haiti. As you know, on Tuesday, January 12, a catastrophic earthquake struck near Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but the death toll -- already in the thousands -- is climbing fast. Red Cross says death toll may be 50,000. This is the worst earthquake to hit the area in more than 200 years. Entire communities have been ripped apart and as many as 3 million people have been directly affected, including tens of thousands of American citizens who are in Haiti. The images coming out of Haiti are heartbreaking. We are watching dead bodies stretched out across the streets, love one s carrying their dead on their shoulders, children being pulled out from beneath rubble, homes and buildings collapsing etc. A nation already wrought with poverty, famine and pain was devastated by the recent earthquake. I urge you to fast and pray for a unified world response to relieve the suffering of the people of Haiti. Rev. Dr. Wayne E. Croft, Sr., D.Min. PhD

5 Scripture Reading ~ A Psalm of David ~ Psalm 96:1 Psalm 96:10 1 O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. 2 Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. 4 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. 6 Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 7 Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. 8 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts. 9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth. 10 Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.
