2 30 Hour Famine October 14-15, PM Sat. to1pm Sun. This year we will raise money for World Vision thru 30 Hour Famine. World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. Please join us to support these fundraising efforts. An informational meeting will be held September 24th at 7 pm. SPONSOR CHILD, LUCIA! We are excited to announce that our Youth Ministry offerings from Wednesday night Bible study and Sunday morning Bible Class go to support Lucia, from Palencia, Guatemala! Lucia lives with her parents, 1 sister, and 1 brother. Her parents struggle to provide for the family. Her father is a construction worker. Despite their efforts, it is difficult to meet the family's needs. Lucia is growing up in a poor community in the Latin American country of Guatemala. Homes may be made of clay bricks with tin sheets or of bamboo cane with straw roofs, depending on what is available. Families survive on corn, beans, eggs and milk or whatever homegrown food is available. Our sponsorship commitment will help provide Lucia and her community with better health thanks to clean water, vitamins, and education in disease prevention. Families will benefit from nutritious food as farmers are trained how to produce improved crops and keep their livestock healthy. Youth will receive vocational training, and hygiene education will decrease sickness. And through our partnership with local churches, children will learn about the surpassing love of Jesus Christ. 2

3 Thank You to all those who helped staff the stand this year. We raised $9547. The funds from this event help subsidize fees for the National Youth Gathering and other youth activities. We hope to see you there again next year! Wednesday Night Bible Study On Wednesday nights from 7-8:30pm our Senior Youth will spend time in praise and worship, prayer, study, and fellowship. This fall we will study the Fruit of the Spirit. We will look at how our faith impacts our lives, the fruit we bear and see how we are called to live by the power of the Holy Spirit. Join us in the Lighthouse as we take time out of our busy weeks to study God s word. Sunday Morning Bible Class The Gospel of John On Sundays at 9:45am our high school youth meet together in The Lighthouse to set aside part of our week to focus on Christ s love and His impact in our lives. This fall we will look at the Gospel of John and how we can use it in witnessing to others. This study ties in well with the Gospel Journey Mai that we studied this past summer. We look forward to seeing you there! 3

4 Kansas District Youth Gathering November 17-19, 2017 Capitol Plaza, Topeka Philippians 1:9-11 Bread of Stone Matt Popovits Sioux City-based Bread of Stone is a unique band that puts service and ministry before self-ambition. Taking their name from a vision of being unfit then transformed to be used for God s work. They have played at both KDYG and NYG in years past. Rev Popovits Matt is also the host of The Spiritual Howcast on itunes and YouTube, which offers insightful yet simple answers to the spiritual questions of skeptical people. $100 (ONLY $50 for Freshman!) 5 2017 K a n s as D i s t r i c t S u m m e r C a m p This year s theme was Lighthouse based on Psalm 27:1; we studied how God is a light to us and how He guides His people in a dark world. Thank you to all the High School youth that helped make this event a success! 5

6 Summer Intern Lydia Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve in your congregation this summer! Words cannot begin to describe how your church has impacted my life spiritually and career wise as I look forward to finishing my education at Concordia this coming school year. I have never worked in such a welcoming and genuine congregation before, and I pray your ministry continues to grow throughout the years to come. Getting to know the students and connecting with them through youth events was my favorite part of this summer, and I am going to miss them greatly. The support the congregation has for the youth program is outstanding, and is reflected in the wonderful kids you guys have at Holy Cross. I will never forget my time here in Wichita, and it s all thanks to the wonderful relationships I have built here at church over the summer. May the Lord bless you and keep you in the years to come, Lydia Farrar The Youth Leadership Team, or YLT, had an awesome start to the new year with their training. That training took place at the Middle School Retreat earlier in August and the 14 members did a great job preparing to work with the Middle School Youth. 6
