We need your help please ADULTS AND YOUTH!!! We are looking for 15 to 20 people to depart from St. Catherine s at Noon and arrive at 1:00 PM to prepare the meal. The meal will be served from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Also, the weekend of August 16 and 17, please bring to church any fresh from the garden food donations you are willing to share, and your awesome baked goods, or you can bring them to the Parish Center on Monday, August 18, or the morning of Tuesday, August 19, before Noon. 4 ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA OCONOMOWOC Greetings from Mary Sue and the Christian Formation Program This past week the children in Vacation Bible School focused on building peace. We enjoyed a variety of activities and spent loads of time building community in our small and large groups. We discussed how peace is not always calm or quiet. It is learning to be like Jesus and be kind, loving and just in the midst of an imperfect world. The parable below is a wonderful example of the: Real Meaning of Peace. There once was a king who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The king looked at all the pictures. But there were only two he really liked, and he had to choose between them. One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror for peaceful towering mountains all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace. The other picture had mountains, too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky, from which rain fell and in which lightning played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all. But when the king looked closely, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest - in perfect peace. 4

The ticket price is $50 per ticket. PLEASE, pick up your packet of raffle tickts in the gathering area of church to sell to family and friends. If you need additional tickets, you may pick them up in church after weekend Masses or at the Parish Center weekdays, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM. Please remember when turning tickets in to paper clip the money to the ticket; do not use staples. Per the state of WI, only ONE name may be on a ticket (yes, even if you are a married couple), ALL tickets MUST have a Wisconsin address (absolutely no cross state line tickets will be accepted), and tickets MUST be turned in to the Parish Office between 8:30 AM-3:30 PM or at the Weekend Masses. Please, SEll those tickets! So far, we have sold 451 tickets. We have a long way to go! This is the biggest fundraiser we have every year. Please support your parish to keep it thriving. Parishioners, We Need Your Donations! We are gladly accepting items for the Silent Auction, Pie Raffle, and Country Store. New items are needed for the Silent Auction for festival day. Larger gift baskets and specialty items are good. Jewelry, tools, and gift certificates are accepted and work well. Use your creativity! 6 F O R M A TI O N CHURCH MISSION AREA Evangelization: The faithful discern formation priorities In the background paper, Formation for Discipleship, author Sandi Schmitt, D. Min. says, Who we are as Catholics is at risk today as a growing number of adults reduce Catholic identity to a family tradition rather than as an interior disposition of discipleship that ows from a loving relationship with Christ and his Church. When Christian formation is viewed as a required hoop to jump through in order to obtain sacramental milestones, Catholic identity suffers. This distortion of Catholic identity is evident in the prevalent understanding of Con rmation as graduation from religious education. Intentional disciples never graduate from Christian formation. In fact, Blessed John Paul II states, the more we are formed... the more we feel the need to pursue and deepen formation (CL, 63). Ongoing attentiveness and cooperation with the Holy Spirit are essential components of the journey towards Christian maturity. Below are the top three priorities in Formation voted on at the Synod. First Priority 26% Universal Quality Faith Formation Ensure that ALL parishes and schools in the archdiocese have access to excellent quality formation for children, youth and adults. Second Priority 20% Young Adult Opportunities Offer meaningful, relevant, and compelling opportunities for young adults that relate faith to their life situations. Third Priority 18% Family Perspective Programs Ensure that all programs of child and youth formation are shaped by a family perspective. Other areas of formation such as technology, competencies and certi cation were discussed and discerned and will be taken into consideration as Archbishop Listecki creates his Synodal Declaration. For more information, go to The next key mission area to be featured will be Catholic Social Teaching the fth of eight areas discerned at the Synod. On September 14, Archbishop Listecki will issue a Synodal Declaration, which will include the priorities set for the Archdiocese for the next years. The information from the Synod will assist Archbishop Listecki in his discernment process in creating this Declaration. 6

10 Sharing the Gospel One night the disciples were caught in a storm, out in the middle of a lake. The winds were strong. The waves crashed against their boat. But Jesus was so powerful, he walked on that stormy lake. Then he completely stopped the storm. No problem you have is ever too big for Jesus. He can do anything. Put all your trust in him.
