2 Synod Road Map for Mission This is our moment in history As we anchor ourselves in prayer and trust of God to do what Peter first did Like him, we are filled with the Holy Spirit and sent to live our evangelizing mission to proclaim Christ and make disciples through the sacramental life of the Church By equipping everyone in the archdiocese to know the faith (catechesis), integrate the faith (formation), and practice the faith (praxis) Through the roadmap of Synod priorities and current initiatives implemented as macro initiatives with micro applications To build a missionary church of intentional disciples marked by lives of Catholic identity, evangelization and stewardship

Synod Implementation At-A-Glance Stewardship, Outreach and Evangelization Involvement in Social Justice Issues YEARS 3-5 Multigenerational Catholic Identity Formation Evangelization and the Sunday Mass YEARS 1-5 Mission and Leadership Communication and technology will be used in implementing each of these areas. Implementation will occur in collaboration with our partners in religious life, Catholic institutions, and fraternal, charitable and ecumenical endeavors.

6 Years 1-2 Mission and Leadership Parishes, schools and religious institutions pray the prayer for the Mission of the Archdiocese and use the Universal Prayers (Prayers of the Faithful) for Mission and Leadership. Archdiocesan offices strengthen, integrate and develop leadership formation for pastors, associate pastors, parish directors, permanent deacons, principals, chaplains, lay ecclesial ministers, and non-paid parish leaders. The Archdiocesan Council of Priests and Archdiocesan Pastoral Council will be consulted regarding emerging models of parish administration that could reduce the administrative burden on priests. Evangelization and the Sunday Mass Parishes, schools and religious institutions discern first year strategies for implementing initiatives in the area of Evangelization and the Sunday Mass. Archdiocesan offices provide resources, support and guidance to assist parishes, schools and religious institutions in the area of Evangelization and the Sunday Mass. A sharing of best practices for initiatives related to Evangelization and the Sunday Mass is established. Five Pastoral Priority Teams Pastoral Priority Teams are established to develop strategies for implementation in each of the five main areas identified by the Synod priorities (Mission and Leadership, Evangelization and the Sunday Mass, Involvement in Social Justice Issues, Multigenerational Catholic Identity Formation and Stewardship, Outreach and Evangelization). Years 3-5 Parishes, schools and religious institutions continue to implement initiatives in the areas of Mission and Leadership and Evangelization and the Sunday Mass, especially based off of the recommendations from the Pastoral Priority Teams in these areas. Using the recommendations from the Pastoral Priority Teams in the areas of Involvement in Social Justice Issues, Multigenerational Catholic Identity Formation and Stewardship, Outreach and Evangelization; parishes, schools and religious institutions will discern strategies for implementing initiatives in these areas. Archdiocesan offices will provide resources, support and guidance to assist with implementation of initiatives in all these main areas identified by the Synod priorities. Best practices sharing continues to be developed for all of these main areas of implementation. Years 6-10 Implementation plans are developed and deepened in each of the five main areas identified by the Synod priorities. Synod Implementation First Year Strategies Mission and Leadership Mission Connection: Calling, forming and sending disciples to go and make new disciples Common Archdiocesan Initiative Beginning in Lent 2015 parishes, schools and religious institutions pray the prayer for the Mission of the Archdiocese and use the Universal Prayers (Prayers of the Faithful) for Mission and Leadership. Evangelization and the Sunday Mass Mission Connection: Encounter Jesus and grow as disciples through the sacramental life of the Church Evangelization and the Sunday Mass encompasses: Becoming a more evangelizing and welcoming parish by paying attention to the music, message and ministries at the Sunday Mass Developing or using current resources to help people of all ages have a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Mass Forming individuals and families in knowing, integrating and living the essentials of the Catholic faith Assisting families to strengthen and practice their Catholic identity in the midst of today s culture Increasing the number of people participating in Sunday Mass since Mass attendance is one of the main reflections of the vitality of a parish Implementing the Mission in the Area of Evangelization and the Sunday Mass Discuss current efforts the parish has undertaken in the area of Evangelization and the Sunday Mass and identify one or two new things you can do as a parish to advance this mission. Look at something that is already taking place that you could do differently to enhance and grow in the area of Evangelization and the Sunday Mass. Take a comprehensive approach to your discussion. Make sure you consider the possible strategies for all of the various areas of ministries. - The Sunday Mass is central to our Catholic faith and our mission as a parish and the Church. - The area of Evangelization and the Sunday Mass is not just the responsibility of the Liturgy Committee. - How can the work of Leadership, Formation, Stewardship and Social Justice connect with children, teens, young adults and adults (including parents and grandparents) and intersect with the parish strategy you choose regarding Evangelization and the Sunday Mass? Outcome: Decide on one or two first year strategies in the area of Evangelization and the Sunday Mass. Outcome: Continue the discussion after today with other parish and cluster leaders.

8 Discussion Starters for Beginning to Live Out the Mission in the Area of Evangelization and the Sunday Mass Focus on becoming a more evangelizing and welcoming parish for the Sunday Mass discuss what you are already doing to be a welcoming parish and what needs to be done to improve and grow in being even more hospitable at the Sunday Mass. The archdiocese will be providing parishes one page teaching handouts on various aspects of the Mass determine ways you can use these materials to help the parish focus on the Mass and to assist people in a better understanding of the Mass. Provide prayers to families that can be prayed together at home. These prayers can be distributed through the Catholic school, religious education program, youth ministry, parish bulletin, parish website and other means. Offer a teaching Mass especially for children, teens and young adults. This could be done through the Catholic School, religious education program, youth ministry or a session for young adults. Other:
