The Lord Almighty grant us a peaceful night and a perfect end. Our help is in the Name of the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. Into Your hands I commend my spirit, for You have redeemed me, O Lord, O God of truth. Guide us waking, O Lord, and grant us sleeping, that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace. 2 What does it mean to Worship? There are many definitions for the word worship. One from Webster s Dictionary, 1828, is; Worship is to honor with extravagant love and extreme submission. True worship is defined by the priority we place on who we are worshipping. True worship is a matter of the heart. As Christians we should be worshipping the Triune God: God, the Father; Jesus Christ, the Son; and the Holy Spirit. Where do we place God in our lives? Where is God on our list of priorities? We should worship God because he is God and because of our extreme love for Him, not because of what He has done for us. If we truly love God, we should make worship a non-negotiable priority in our lives. We should be looking for every opportunity to worship Him! Psalm 96:8 tells us to give the Lord the glory that He deserves! Colossians 3:1-2 (CEB) instructs, Therefore, if you were raised with Christ, look for the things that are above where Christ is sitting at God s right side. Think about the things above and not things on earth. If we are concentrating on the things of God, then we will want to worship Him to our fullest! We have so many opportunities to do so, but where are we when worship is available? Let s look at our priorities and adjust them to be ones that honor God. We have begun a new Worship time prior to our monthly Food Pantry/Community Dinner. If you haven t already joined us, you are missing out on the opportunity to share in worship with others from our community. We have been singing gospel songs/hymns like; The Old Rugged Cross, How Great Thou Art, What a Friend we have in Jesus, and I ll Fly Away. Come and worship your Lord and share your love of Him with others every chance you have! 3 This DELICIOUS dessert made by Rachel Hostetler was a big hit at the Sunday dinner following July s combined service. Thanks for sharing, Rachel. Ice Cream Sandwich Dessert 24 ice cream sandwiches 2-8 packs of Reese s cups 2-8oz. Cool Whip Peanut butter 1. Place layer of unwrapped ice cream sandwiches in the bottom of a 9x13 pan 2. Spread 1 8oz. Cool Whip on top of ice cream sandwiches 3. Crumble up 1 pack of Reese s cups on top of Cool Whip 4. Melt some peanut butter and drizzle over top of Cool Whip & Reese s cups 5. Repeat steps for second layer Please continue to pray for our teachers and all children in school. We need to get out of the boat! Can you? Will you? What does Jesus want from us or for us? Listen to God. Fix your eyes on Jesus. CONNECT Let s show our community schools that we CARE! This program has expanded to include an in-school volunteer component. Anyone is welcome to join a group that will spend time during the school day helping students and teachers at the school. Would you enjoy spending time in the lunchroom helping to open packages and cartons for the children and talking to them while you do it? Or would you enjoy spending time on the playground watching the children play and helping them to play cooperatively? Or would you enjoy being in the classroom helping with whatever the teacher needs, being an extra pair of hands, eyes, & ears? Or maybe you would enjoy spending time out of the classroom helping in the office making copies, working on bulletin boards, etc.? The only requirements to do this are getting fingerprinting done at the school board office and scheduling with the school volunteer coordinator. Our After-School Program begins on Tuesday, August 29 th. We will be having snacks, Bible stories, character-building stories and activities, games, crafts, & tutoring, as needed. Many volunteers are needed to make this a success. Please be praying about how you can help. Sign-up sheets are already available, so let us know where you can fit in. We need more volunteers! If you have any questions, please ask Pastor Ruthie. Snacks are needed for the CONNECT PROGRAM on Tuesdays, 3:30-5pm here at the church. We are asking for donations of: potato chips pretzels gold fish popcorn M&M s (plain) raisins corn chips lemonade drink powder for quarts NO peanut butter or nuts. These donations are needed through out the year - some in the beginning Sept. & Oct. for sure - then after. Thanks!

4 For everyone who walks on this earth: Volunteers to walk students from the Rittman Elementary School to the United Methodist church on Wednesday mornings. From 8:15-12:15 every Wednesday. Most walk two times a month. We will be starting up on Wednesday, September 6 and go until the end of the school year. Application is available in the Narthex. Only requirement is to be fingerprinted at the school board office. O God, give me Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference. St. Francis of Assisi Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Choir will begin practicing Wednesday, September 7th at 7 pm. There s always room for more singers! Four individuals were chosen for their outstanding service to the Creston community at the Creston s 68th Annual Ox Roast & Fish Fry. Our own Dale Stahl was one of the four chosen for this honor. Congratulations to Betty Gift. She celebrated her 95th birthday recently. So happy for you! Food Pantry We need help also - can you please help. You do not need a shovel or hip boots. Food Pantry served 41 families, 97 people that included two new families. The new service before food pantry (3:30-4pm) was good. Our friends enjoyed a meal of casseroles, fruit and salads. Panera s sweets and breads are also delicious. Thanks helpers! Preschool It s hard to believe Preschool will be starting soon. Open House is on September 10th at 2pm. There will be a Meet The Teacher Day on September 12th with the first day of school on September 13th. Please keep the children and teachers in your prayers. If anyone has an old digital camera they would like to donate to the Preschool, please let us know. Trustees Bob Hopton repaired the yellow chairs in social hall. The Trustees completed the front entry installation of surveillance system. Church secretary will monitor this. Tabled discussion of additional security system. Church Picnic The Church Picnic was great. Lots of fun. Thanks to everyone for bringing food and Lynn & Mark T. for handling cooking on the grill, and all the set-up and clean-up and everyone who helped.
