ILM ILM VOTIVE CANDLES Henrietta & Charles Colantuono requested by Mary Fortunato Sunny Castiello requested by Dante & Joan Frances Kaufman requested by Mr. & Mrs. Dante Ricci 26th Anniversary of Mae Ceraso requested by Tom & Rosalie McManus Birthday of Joseph Fortunato requested with love, sister, Mary Angelina Rose Scaruzzi req. by Love, daughter, Annette Gaudio and Grandchildren Sunny Castiello requested by Virginia J. Trapuzzano Dear Parishioners. In today s gospel, Jesus tells his disciples: Love one another as I have loved you. It sounds so simple. But it can be very difficult. Still, Jesus words can help us step back from these difficulties and try to find that foundation of love from which we are to begin all interactions with one another. This is what we see demonstrated in today s reading from Acts. There was controversy in the early Church about what requirements would be made for someone asking to be baptized in the name of Jesus. God reveals to Peter that whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him, -Gentile or Jew. In our second reading, taking from John s first letter, love is again put forth as the mark of one who knows God and follows the teachings of Jesus. In this letter, the words of Jesus are reiterated - that love originated with God, in fact, that God is love. And God loved us, his creation, so much, that he sent his only begotten Son to redeem us and make it possible for us to have life everlasting in heaven. But God has also loved us enough that he has given us free will, to accept or reject the love he has offered. If we accept it, we will, in turn, love others as he has loved us. And how has he loved us? Generously, lavishly, sacrificially. To love others in this manner-generously, lavishly and sacrificially-is how we are to love one another. However, to love in this manner does not always come easily. Love like this takes courage. At times we need to be the first one to extend an act of goodwill in a painful situation. To love like this means that our sense of what is fair and right is not dependent on someone else s actions. Our love is given because it is ours to give; it is our choice. We do not merit God s love and grace. They are freely given to us. The more we receive those gifts of love and grace, the more we are able to choose to offer them to others. To love like God loves us means we need to pray to God to discern his will in our lives, and we need to receive the sacraments. The Eucharist nourishes us and strengthens us and the sacrament of reconciliation softens our hearts, and helps us experience our own sinfulness so we are open to receive God s pardon, mercy and love. In doing so, we can foster a disposition of the heart that will enable us to recognize when we need to offer compassion and mercy to those we encounter. As we journey through life, let us consider how we love one another. How we love those who are difficult to love. How we love those who wish us harm. How we love those who are different from us. How we love those we do not really know.
3 Sixth Sunday of Easter May 10, 2015 Continued It is easy love those who love us. The true sign of one who loves as Jesus taught us to love is that he or she loves those who are a challenge to love. The payoff is worth the effort, because we are reminded that whoever loves as Jesus taught will find their joy complete God Love Ya! Fr. Reilly On a personal note: Happy Mothers Day! Please know that all of our mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, and aunts will be remembered in a special way this weekend as Mass is offered for them. Please take note: The Rectory office will be CLOSED on Ascension Thursday May 14th and will reopen Friday, May 15th. A Mother s Day Prayer Heavenly Father, today I turn to you to give you thanks for my mother. With your own gift of life, she bore me in her womb and gave me life. She tenderly, patiently cared for me and taught me to walk and talk. She read to me and made me laugh. No one delighted in my successes more; no one could comfort me better in my failures. I am so grateful for how she mothered me and mentored me, and even disciplined me. Please bless her, Lord, and comfort her. Help her loving heart to continue to love and give of herself to others. Strengthen her when she is down and give her hope when she is discouraged. Most of all, Lord, on this Mother's Day, give my mother the graces she most needs and desires today. Amen. Thank you!! St. Richard Parish May Procession Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 7pm As we all know, the month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Mother and we will honor Mary with our parish May Procession on Wednesday night May 13 th at 7pm. It will truly be an inspirational evening and I am hopeful that you will all take time out of your busy schedule to honor this great woman of faith. I look forward being with you and praying with you on this special night. May, Mary our Mother, continue to pour forth her blessings upon us, her sons and daughters; and continue to wrap her mantle of love and peace around us the family of St. Richard Parish. 4 Sixth Sunday of Easter May 10, 2015 Considering a switch to CATHOLIC SCHOOL? Tuition Transfer Grants are now available at Saint Pio Catholic Regional School! Call and apply today! Affordable Catholic Education May Be Within Reach! While we know that Catholic schools offer an excellent education and moral formation for their students, some families opt for other schools public, charter, private, or homeschools due to the lower price tag. Still, perhaps you wish that your child(ren) had the benefit of attending a Catholic school just look at our standardized test scores, which have risen steadily at Archdiocesan elementary schools over the past few years! In partnership with the Connelly Foundation, Saint Pio Catholic Regional School now has the opportunity to offer Tuition Transfer Grants for new students who register in grades 2-6. Any student currently attending a public, charter, home, or private school who registers to attend Saint Pio Catholic Regional School is eligible to receive a three-year tuition grant: $1,000 in Year One $500 in Year Two $300 in Year Three A total savings of $1,800 for your family! A limited number of grants are available in each grade, and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis beginning April 7, While these grants are only available to new transfer students who register at Saint Pio Catholic Regional School, they will also benefit current families by filling empty classroom seats, which increases the school s efficiency and revenue, and minimizes future tuition increases. Full classrooms are the surest path to affordable tuition for everyone! If you are interested in a Tuition Transfer Grant or in registering at Saint Pio Catholic Regional School, please contact Marianne Garnham, Principal at (215) to schedule a meeting or a school tour.
