Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church (715) ELCA Youth Gathering Leah Reynolds is going to the National ELCA Youth Event in Houston, TX this June. Leah will be representing Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church, but will be going with about 25 other youth from Saint Ignace Church in Michigan. This is the church of our former intern David Tiebar and his wife Cathy. Leah will be leaving on June 26 and returning on July 1. Leah and her family have been fundraising to make this trip possible. They have sold ThirtyOne bags, cards for Yonker s Community Days, Papa Murphy pizza coupons and received money from the Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church Endowment Fund. Leah has also received monetary contributions from family and friends which she wants to say a Big Thank You! Upon returning from her trip Leah will be doing a powerpoint presentation at one of the IGNITE services and possibly after a Sunday morning worship service. SAFE TRAVELS LEAH!!!
2 For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Corinthians 11:23-25 I never know for sure if it makes me feel better or worse to be reminded that life in the church, God's Church, has never been smooth sailing. Even with regards to such blessed things as the gift of Holy Communion there were and are points of contention that cause deep division and willful exclusion among God's people. You know what I'm talking about - this denomination says we'd love to have you commune with us but that other denomination says well maybe, but first you'll have to... It saddens me that God's life-giving gift can become so conditional among his people. I do know for sure that talking about Holy Communion with our younger members does make me feel much better about how this sacrament is received among God's people. By that I mean to say that our sixth graders will soon be receiving instruction in preparation for the handing on of a precious gift of remembrance and promise of presence first given by our Lord Jesus Christ. Do you want to know what the great and uplifting thing about doing this with our sixth graders is? Well, there are two things really. The first is that I get to work with Vern Larson, our sixth grade Sunday School teacher, and Vern is a cool guy who is passionate about his faith and that kind of thing rubs off on people. The other thing that does my soul well has to do with what our First Communion students are not particularly interested in. They are not interested in debating transubstantiation, symbolic presence, real presence, leavened or unleavened bread, wine or juice, common cup, individual glasses, intinction, or the age of reason. They simply want to be reassured that God's sacramental gift, which has been handed down from generation to generation since the night of the Last Supper, is for them. Simply put, when they believe this to be true, they are ready. Can any of us truly say anything more about our own worthiness? Please pray for our sixth grade members as our congregation walks with them to show them their place at God's holy table so they may hear and believe the reassuring words first offered by Jesus... given for you. God's peace and joy to all, Pastor Terry Lorenz 2
3 The ASP pizza sale was a huge success with over 1100 pizzas being made. A big thank you to all the congregation members a n d c o m m u n i t y members for purchasing and helping to make all those gooey, cheesy pizzas. All youth that are going on the mission trip this year worked at the pizza sale either Friday night or Saturday and some kids worked both. All proceeds from the pizza sale will be used to help pay for the rental of the 15 passenger vans used to transport our youth and adults to Kentucky in June for their mission trip. There are a few supreme pizzas left going for 3 for $20 or $8 a piece. Talk to Les if you are interested. ASP Potato Pancake Breakfast Sunday April 29 th 7am to 1:30pm At the Cabin in the Pines Stoddard Park Menu: potato pancakes, light and fluffy wheat pancakes, maple syrup, sausages, homemade applesauce, assorted dessert bars & beverage $7 for adults, $5 for ages 5 thru 11 & under 4 is free ASP BBQ Tables For Sale Our ASP youth will be constructing BBQ tables for purchase in May. These tables are made of treated wood and will last a lifetime on your patio or deck next to your BBQ grill. They will be on sale for $60 and will be ready for pickup after Sunday, May 20 th. A BBQ table is on displayed in the church narthex with order sheets. Tables can also be delivered if needed. Any questions, talk to Les. 3 Our first of 4 ASP workshops was held with all 25 and 12 adults attending. The workshop was lead by Sue Fischer, Molly Vold and Patti Matthews. Team building and getting to know each other were the themes for this workshop. This year s theme for ASP is Call(ed) to Action. It is an expression of purpose and invitation to participate in God s ongoing work in the world. God sends out the call (invitation) and God s people are called the ones invited. At the end of the workshop, Molly shared the question, What is a hope you have for this trip? Participants had to come forward and write down their answer on a flip chart that was entitled Your trip starts here. At the conclusion of our trip we will see if each Hope was accomplished. Next ASP Workshop Sunday, April 8 th This workshop will be led by Stephanie Sumner, Marty Kempf and Allyson Barka. Entitled Difficult Choices it will center on the many factors that go into choosing which homeowners ASP can best serve and to become increasingly aware of people s personal priorities and values. The following are the youth going on ASP: Nicholas Barka Sawyer Bee Lily Bohlinger Rose Bohlinger Janessa Boudreau Sadie Bowerman Colton Dahl Ethan Dahl Tommy Fischer Trevor Fischer Luke Fischer Mollie Graham Holly Groell Cierra Hansen Madeleine Kempf Keila Kittleson Maddy Mulcahy Abby Mulcahy Bella Nicolai Colin Sumner Ashley Skoyen Makayla Steinke Caroline Tietjens Hannah Walske Davis Wilson Adult leaders going on the trip: Allyson Barka Frans Carlstrom Sue Fischer Todd Fischer Marty Kempf Patti Matthews Les Munnik Stephanie Sumner Rick Vojtik Molly Vold Wes Whited

Lori will be taking care of the south side of our building which includes the south entrance, hallways, bathrooms, kitchen, fellowship hall, gymnasium, Kingdom Kids area and the quilting room. We are very grateful for all staff members who help to care for our building and work to keep our church clean, safe, and inviting to all who visit. Welcome Lori! Volunteers are needed to unload trucks and set up food items for distribution. There is only one shift and it is for roughly two hours, from 9:15 to 11:30 on the 3 rd Saturday of the month. If you are able to help with the effort to get food to those in need, please contact Pastor Terry at (715) Thank you for your consideration. On Monday, July 10, 1893 this fledgling body of Christ called Rev. Himley to help them adopt a constitution and align themselves with the then prevalent Hauge Synod. Later this year our congregation would like to acknowledge the efforts of our ancestors and give thanks to God by having a 125 th Anniversary Celebration sometime in the early fall. We are currently looking for 5-7 volunteers who would be interested in helping to plan our anniversary celebration. If you would be available to serve on our Anniversary Committee, please contact Pastor Terry at , or stop by the church office. Thank you for your consideration. Feelin the Green was the title of the latest Friendship Club lunch gathering. A delicious meal of green ham, green Jell-O, green beans and green frosted cake with mint ice cream was served by chief cook Curt Nelson and his crew. After the green meal was consumed, our senior guests were treated to the music of Jim and Dan Newman. Prizes were awarded for various trivia games with gas cards and Norske Nook gift cards being awarded. A big thank you to the Social Concerns Committee for putting this fun event for our 55 and older senior citizens. 6
