2 The Ascension of the Lord May 20, 2012 La Ascensión del Señor Mayo 20 de 2012 THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ASCENSION The theological unity, or perhaps even the temporal experience of the early community, made it seem that Jesus resurrection and his ascension were inseparable aspects of a single mystery. Only in the later writings of Luke and John has further theological reflection helped the Christian community to distinguish different dimensions of the mystery. Liturgical tradition has followed the forty-day chronology formulated by Luke. We would miss the point, however, if we were to demand a precise historical chronology of events such as the Resurrection-Ascension that are primarily spiritual in nature and that clearly surpass the bounds of time and space as we know them. What is important for us to grasp is the significance of the Ascension. For Luke, it is the decisive turning point that marks the end of Jesus earthly ministry and the beginning of the disciples Spirit -led ministry and thus the ministry of the whole church down to our own day. As stewards of this legacy, we too are called to give witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our words and actions; in how we live and how we treat others. Are we sharing the life of Christ with others in our day-to-day lives? In what ways do we see ourselves proclaiming the Gospel? In what ways can we do better? EUCHARISTIC ADORATION What will I experience at Eucharistic Adoration? Our experience of God s presence can never be adequately expressed in words. Jesus is light shining into our darkness, healing our sorrows and our fears. He is the bread that satisfies our spiritual hunger, and the brother who reaches out to rescue us. No matter where we have wandered, Jesus is always there to welcome us home. During His life on earth, He laughed and cried. He died and journeyed to hell. He resurrected and prepared a place for us in Heaven. Christ remains with us in everything, offering His spirit, His body, and His blood. During our time in the chapel, we can surrender into His love, moment by moment, and get to know Him better. Join HIM on Fridays in the Chapel from 12:30pm to 5:30 pm.

Volunteers help restock shelves on both mornings and unload items brought from the Food Bank on Thursday morning. The ALPHA Crib and Change For Life Program continues this weekend, May 19 and 20. Please take a tag from the crib showing an item that has been requested by Alpha to support maternity and infant needs and return these items next weekend in the Alpha marked baskets. 5 NUESTRO MINISTERIO EN LA IGLESIA Es un punto aparentemente insignificante, pero importante a tener en cuenta al reflexionar sobre el ministerio durante estos días previos a la venida del Espíritu Santo: percatarse de que el lugar de Judas entre los apóstoles fue llenado a causa de su traición, no de su muerte. Él había sido, según las palabras de Pedro: llamado a desempeñar con nosotros este ministerio. Entonces es la traición a la misión y no simplemente la muerte lo que deja un vacío en la estructura de la misión de la Iglesia. Jesús quiere que nuestra familia " Comenten las respuestas. Recuerde a los miembros de la familia que Jesús sigue estando presente en el mundo por medio de los actos de amor. May this Spirit of wisdom make us better stewards of our planet. May your Spirit increase our awareness of the dignity of every human life, and show us the way to be better stewards of our neighbor. Aurelio was the Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Castroville where he served with Fr. Pedro Espinoza. St. Patrick s is blessed to have Fr. Aurelio join our parish family. 7 Pray For Our Troops The bulletin board above the glass case in the Vestibule is used to display pictures of loved ones serving in the Armed Forces. Please bring in a picture, name and where your family member is serving so that the parish community can pray for him or her. We need to continue to pray for God s protection over our troops until we bring them home. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN We never know when a child molester could be present in the places we usually take our children without a second thought: the grocery store, the post office, the Laundromat and, yes!, the church grounds. Please always keep your children with you. Don t let them go to the restroom by themselves, don t let them play outside when you are at Mass or at a church meeting, and don t leave them unattended in your car for any length of time! The Diocese of Monterey has a strong program in place to make every parish a safe place for our children but we need the parents cooperation to make it happen.
