1 October 14, 2018 West Valley Presbyterian Church This morning s theme: Our Eternal Hope Call to Worship: Psalm 130:7-8 Called to Worship O Church, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. And he will redeem His people from all their iniquities. There Is A Fountain There is a fountain filled with blood Drawn from Immanuel's veins And sinners plunged beneath that flood Lose all their guilty stains Dear dying Lamb Thy precious blood Shall never lose its pow'r Till all the ransomed Church of God Be saved to sin no more E'er since by faith I saw the stream Thy flowing wounds supply Redeeming love has been my theme And shall be till I die When this poor lisping stamm'ring tongue Lies silent in the grave Then in a nobler sweeter song I'll sing Thy pow'r to save Scripture Reading: Isaiah 25:6-9 (page 586) Prayer of Confession Confessing our Sin Almighty God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ you have given us a sure hope and future, yet we confess that we have set our hope on other things: money, family, success, pleasure. Forgive us for breaking your Law and putting these things ahead of you. By your Spirit, help us to set our hope fully on your promises and to lead holy lives as we await Christ s return. In Jesus name, Amen.

2 Words of Assurance: Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. My Worth Is Not In What I Own Celebrating the Gospel My worth is not in what I own Not in the strength of flesh and bone But in the costly wounds of love My worth is not in skill or name In win or lose, in pride or shame But in the blood of Christ that flowed I rejoice in my Redeemer Greatest Treasure, Wellspring of my soul I will trust in Him, no other. My soul is satisfied in Him alone. As summer flowers we fade and die Fame, youth and beauty hurry by But life eternal calls to us I will not boast in wealth or might Or human wisdom's fleeting light But I will boast in knowing Christ Two wonders here that I confess My worth and my unworthiness My value fixed, my ransom paid 2

3 Declaring the Faith: from 1 Peter 1 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Come Lord Jesus When the war is over and the battles are done, We shall see our Savior shining like the sun Every tear He will dry, every shadow will flee. All those in Christ Jesus will be made complete, Will be made complete. Come, Lord Jesus, Listen to creation groan. Come, Lord Jesus, Come and take Your people home. Every tongue will praise Him, every knee will bow, When we see our Savior riding on the clouds, Riding on the clouds. Prayer Now we see in part, Then we ll see in full, Your glory, Jesus, Will satisfy our souls. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. 5 Eternal Weight Of Glory Now the days and hours and moments Of our suff ring seem so long; And the toilsome wait and wond ring Threaten silence to our song. Now our pain is real and pressing Where our faith is thin and weak, But our hope is set on Jesus; And we cling to him, our strength. Oh eternal weight of glory! Oh inheritance divine! We will see our Lord redeeming Every past and future time. All our pains will be transfigured, Like the scars of Christ our Lord. We will see the weight of glory, And our broken years restored. For behold! I tell a myst ry: At the trumpet sound we ll wake! Death is swallowed up in vict ry When we meet our King of Grace. Every year we thought was wasted, Every night we cried How long?
