2 STEEPLE WORK UPDATE Workers were finishing the back window area as of July 25. When you read this at weekend services, and pending expected good weather, the entire steeple might well be done, including the installation of the balustrade system at right. So look up and see! Two milestone birthdays! Lily Herbst was 104 on July 28, and Anna Gessner was 100 on July 29. Happy Birthday to both! Call Committee named. Congregation Council has approved the following members of the Associate Pastor Call Committee. Jake Miller (chair), Ryan Argot, Debbie Balasundram, Bruce Bigelow, Sarah Hancock, Kathy Holmes, Joe Hunter, Shannon Jones, Margaret Parker, and Karen Yeager. 4 AUGUST 5-6 IS WORLD HUNGER WEEKEND sponsored annually by the Missions Ministry Team to benefit the ELCA World Hunger Appeal. ELCA programs address the root causes of hunger and poverty by providing solutions, education, and medical assistance to meet the unique needs of women, children, and families. Here s what you can do: Bake or donate bread and baked goods Sat., Aug. 5, starting at 9 am in the kitchen Sign up in the Gathering Space Bake bread with our Missions Team and volunteers from Communities of Hope; or bring in your labeled donations of homemade breads and baked goods. Buy bread and baked goods Sat., Aug. 5 (evening service), and Sun., Aug. 6 Take item(s) and donate generously. Give monetary gifts (will show on your giving record) August all month World Hunger Appeal envelopes will be in August 5 and 6 bulletins. Envelopes will be available in the narthex and the back of Fellowship Hall during August. Make checks payable to Trinity but be sure to write World Hunger on the memo line. It s the 2017 Trinity Luther Open a laid back, fun, fourperson scramble golf outing for golfers of all skill levels. Who can forget last year's epic competition as Team Exodus edged Team Genesis in this fabled "Chase for the Chalice." Lutherans will talk about it for generations to come, and you can be part of it. $50 includes greens fee, cart, goodie bag, prizes, and steak and corn dinner later (see ad, above) at Adams/Ricci Park in Enola. The Men s Breakfast Gathering meets on August 5 at Ryan Hannigan s home, 245 S. Lewisberry Road, Mechanicsburg. Breakfast starts at 8, discussion afterwards ending at 9:30. Put items in the specially marked box in the Gathering Space. The pantry is a free resource for seminary students and their families to supplement their needs. Women of Trinity is hosting this collection as part of the August Lower Susquehanna Synodical Women s Organization convention to be held here, so be sure to bring your items in by August 6. The seminary accepts non-perishable food items, toiletry items, paper products, cleaning products, detergents, and gift cards. (Gift cards must be clearly marked For seminary food pantry and given to someone in Trinity s office during office hours.) School kit collections begin in mid-august through September! Trinity Tutors give much-needed school supplies to Foose, Downey, and Scott elementary school students in Harrisburg. Each kit includes a plastic school supply box, No. 2 pencils, pencil top erasers, a box of 24 crayons, a tissue pack, and a marble composition book. Donate a complete kit, or any items in bulk, or money. Put your items in the school kits area in the Gathering Space.
8 Give to others from the Giving Tree hosted by our Parish Ministry and Social Ministry teams! Make it Christmas in July for folks in need. Take a tag/ornament from the Christmas tree in the Gathering Space and turn it back in with your donation of the gift requested: Church-shaped ornament: Each $25 gift card you donate will help our own Trinity members. Requested are cards to use at Walmart, Target, Rite Aid, CVS, or for gas. White card with blue yarn: Each store gift card you donate will support ministries of Christian Churches United (CCU). Cards with colorful band-aids: Donate items listed on the back of the cards (e.g., toothpaste/toothbrushes, socks, soap, eye drops, more) to support The Allison Hill medical clinic of the Health Ministries of Christ Lutheran Church. Angel-shaped ornament: Donate $25 Giant, Walmart, or Target gift cards to help a work-release family as part of our prison ministries support. White envelope attached with gold garland: Donate gift cards for cash to help women and children who are sheltered by the Bethesda Mission. Reach out to our hospitalized and at-home members. See the list in the Narthex and the Gathering Space tract rack. Your prayers and contacts bring peace and comfort.
