January marks the half way point of my term and I want to thank all of you for your support and guidance. The first half of my term was challenging for all of us, with so many activities to manage. Hopefully the second half will be a bit quieter. I want to thank Jamie Claudeo for another successful Christmas Tree event benefitting the St. Jude Children s Hospital and our local charities. I also want to thank all the brothers who came out and broke a sweat, the weather really cooperated this year. We sold all 600+ trees so quickly, which allowed us to spend more time with our families this year. I have to make sure I thank Dave Furbish, Ron Borrello, Lenny Abline and Mike Balsamo for dressing up in Christmas costumes at The Commission for disabled/handicapped Christmas Party. Thank you to Scott Rusbarsky and Robert Maras for chairing the Christmas social that was a success this year. We had a great turn out, the food was awesome and the families had a chance to mingle and get in the Christmas spirit. Hopefully we can get more brothers and their families to come out next year. I want to thank Ron Borrello PGK for chairing Breakfast with Santa, featuring the nativity play performed by our CCD kids and a guest appearance by Santa (Jerry Neaves, brother in law of co-chair Joe Colaneri). We had about 120 attending and it was a great time for all. Thanks to all brothers that made up our Kitchen staff and the Knights families that helped with setting up and decorating. We have a first degree scheduled for January 14th at St Monica. Please check your for more information. Scott Rusbarsky is chairing our blood drive on January 21st at St Monica. Please sign up at the Central Jersey Blood Bank website, so we have an idea of how many people will donate. Remember 1 Pint can save 3 lives. To stay up to date with our councils events, visit our calendar online. Vivat Jesus! Robert Guimaraes, Grand Knight
2 A Message from Fr. Tom We are God s chosen ones, His elect. He doesn t want our lives to be hum-drum, meaningless, depressing routines. God wants better for Fr. Tom us. God loves doing a new thing. You and I are often afraid of change. We long to cling to the status quo. God loves change, especially changed lives. What we need is not inspiration, but transformation; not resolution, but a revolution. We need a change in our lives that comes from God. What we need is for God to do a new thing within us. He loves doing a new thing. I am amazed how many people think that God sees only the bad in them. They think God is waiting to find something they say or do wrong so that he can pounce on them and condemn them. Please know that God is much more concerned over the good in you than He is the bad. He is much more anxious to reward your goodness, than to punish your evil. Many times, while we are condemning ourselves, God is trying to help us realize His forgiveness. We often talk about believing in God, and forget that God may also believe in us. We refuse to believe in His Amazing Grace, but all at once we begin to wonder if perhaps it could be true. Could God love me after all, even when He sees what I really am? Could it be my life could be different? Could it be that God is giving us a new chance, a new lease on life, no matter how many times or how miserably we have failed? How full of love God s heart is! How powerful His spirit to take our failures and give us a future. Remember men (and women) Jesus Christ offers you a new lease on life. A new change in this New Year. And a new year is an ideal time to give other people a new chance; to realize that perhaps with a little help and trust from you they could be different. You and I are to forgive those who have sinned against us. That s quite a healing message now let s go to put it into effect in 2016! Amen to that. Happy and healthy 2016! My Dear Friends and Fellow Knights, Here we are in Where does time go? I m in my 80 s now and as my grandfather used to say, Marrone! This message will be a reflection on the New Year since the New Year is traditionally a time to reflect. We look back over the year and assess our successes and failures. We gain some satisfaction over our successes and experience some grief and guilt over our failures. We have hopes that things will be better. That may be why some of us come to church in the hope that the Holy Spirit may fall afresh on us and the future will be full of exciting new possibilities, positive change and new growth. The St. Monica Knights of Columbus Council is sponsoring a Blood Drive between 5:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 21st. The Central Jersey Blood Center will be collecting blood in St. Monica s Parish Hall. Please consider giving the gift of life. For your convenience, you may schedule a donor appointment by completing the sign-up sheets at the back of the church, or by contacting Scott Rusbarsky at (203) You can also set an appointment time online by visiting and click where it says donate now. You must be at least 16yrs old and please bring along a photo ID. Thank you.
3 Christmas Social Breakfast with Santa Knight of the Month Joe Provenzano I want to thank our new Brother Knight Joe for getting involved with our events and the parish events, including the Bonfire, Tree sales, etc... He is willing to do whatever is asked of him, please congratulate Joe for being Knight of the Month. Please congratulate Joe for being Knight of the Month. Robert Guimaraes, GK
4 What is Faith in Our Future? Faith in Our Future is a process through which the Diocese of Trenton, its parishes and ministries, will plan to meet challenges and respond to new opportunities for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ for years to come. Bishop David M. O Connell, C.M., has identified five goals for Faith in Our Future: Strengthen and enliven the parishes of the Diocese as well as diocesan sponsored organizations and ministries. Explore new models of leadership in parishes and ministries and address the challenges presented by the anticipated retirement of a large number of priests over the next 10 years. Improve our stewardship of personnel, finances, and facilities and other parish and diocesan resources. Establish collaborative relationships among the parishes and ministries of the Diocese. Provide for pastoral ministry to Hispanic Catholics, the fastest growing segment of our Diocesan population. Planning is an ongoing responsibility in any organization. At present, there are many indications that it is time to take a comprehensive look at the configuration of parishes, their facilities, their staffing, ministry practices and outreach in order to more effectively proclaim the Gospel and pass on the faith to a new generation. Each parish will have a core team comprised of the Pastor/Administrator and four parish members. Core teams have the responsibility to create opportunities for parishioners to share their ideas and voice concerns which is central to Faith in Our Future. The Planning phase of the process will take place over the course of a year. At first, each parish will work on its own to conduct an evaluation of the parish and collect the ideas and concerns of parishioners. After a few months, parishes will align in groups of 3-5 neighboring parishes to form a cohort which will discuss their strengths and struggles and share ideas about the future. This cohort will make suggestions to the Diocese for the future that propose ways the parishes in a given area can work together. This project is not fundamentally about merging parishes or getting smaller. Faith in our Future is about growing and spreading the Faith more effectively with diminishing resources as the number of priests and religious in active ministry approach retirement age. There is no direct monetary cost to parishes for Faith in Our Future. The process will be funded at the diocesan level. There is an investment, however, to be made by each parish in terms of the time and energy required from those on the core team and the participation of parishioners in the parish evaluation process. The Core team has been meeting to evaluate the best ways for your involvement in this program. Members of the Core team will be presenting our ideas to you within the next week or so. Your core team: Fr. Alex, Mike Hintenach, Denis Balint, Eleanore Althaver and Ron Borrello
5 Brothers, During this year s Christmas Tree sales event we were visited by Ms. Christina Bologna, Philanthropic Advisor, ALSAC Gift Planning for St. Jude Children s Research Hospital. Ms. Bologna and Cousin Vinny made a connection and she got to know him as well as we had. Knowing how important our council was in Vinny s life, she made a point to come visit us during the fundraiser that was so near and dear to his heart. Ms. Bologna advised us that Vinny s name had been added to the Danny Thomas St. Jude Legacy Wall in gratitude for his years of generosity and support. Vinny frequently talked about visiting the St. Jude Children s Hospital but never managed to make it happen. Now - he is there eternally. Below is the wall with the block of his name. Fraternally, Len Abline, PGK

7 MEMBERSHIP REPORT You may have heard that we were finally able to remove ten (10) delinquent members from our roster. Although 2016 this is a great loss to our Council, it makes our Council stronger in that the overall quality of our membership is advanced. Unfortunately, Supreme Council has added ten (10) new members to our 2015/2016 quota bringing that requirement up to twenty-one (21). that As requirement of December up 1, to 2015, twenty-one have (21). added As of five (5) new Brothers which brings our current needs to seventeen (17). While this may seem impossible, I feel that if we all give extra effort to recruiting, we can achieve this quota and qualify for Star Council. To kick off this effort, we have a First Degree scheduled for Thursday, January, 14th here at St. Monica's. If you know of any potential member, please bring him or his name to me so we can conduct a proper interview, read and vote on his application at our January 7th Council meeting so he can become a member on the 14th. We can do this! Council needs your help. Let's get it done. Fraternally, Jim Mastrian PGK, PFN Religious Ed Coordinator Karen Badach and her CCD kids Performing Breakfast In Bethlehem

MARTHA Cooks for St. Martha (The patron saint of cooks) are needed. Though I have a group of cooks already, I could really use more so as not to continue calling the same people and wearing out their good nature. A handful of them are Knights and their wives, however, they are only a handful. We like to help people just coming out of the hospital or who are going through treatment (usually cancer). We bring meals for the first week home for a new mother and father or it could also be someone who is recovering from surgery. There might be a family with someone in l Hospice. These meals are meant to be temporary until these folks are on their feet again. A fresh meal will be cooked for the whole family or a single person if they live alone. The meals are delivered to their home ready to eat. As I tell everyone in my message in our Sunday bulletin, "We are many and wish only to serve." If after prayerful thought and discussion you decide you and your wife would like to be part of Saint Martha's Cooks, please call me, Gloria Carlon at (732) to give me your name and phone number. Thank you and God Bless you. Gloria Carlon Remember. if you know someone in need of our prayers and would like to add them to the Good of the Order list you can now do so via . A special address has been set up at Goodoftheorder11529@gmail.com for you to add to the list. Names will stay on for 3 issues unless otherwise requested. Or you can always contact me with your request.
