Dinner at 5:00 P.M. Vespers to follow The pavilion is handicap accessible. You may want to bring your own lawn chairs for comfortable seating while viewing the games. Please feel free to come whenever you desire. We need people to play the games and also people to cheer them on. Table service and drinks will be provided for dinner. Please bring a dish to share. 3 Living in the Fire! Pastor Roy Gearhart I have been preaching a series of messages focused on the gift of the Holy Spirit that is remembered on Pentecost. I have been working to help us embrace the variety of ways the Holy Spirit transforms our lives allowing us to live in the fire. I want to emphasize the importance of Pentecost and that the gift of the Holy Spirit is more than just an experience to be had. You may remember the Apostles having a phenomenal experience of a rushing winding entering the house while they were praying and of tongues of fire landing on each of them that set off an eruption of everyone speaking in different tongues (languages). What an indescribable experience. Just that is truly exciting and worth remembering! But Pentecost matters Over 50 s The Over 50 s will be going to VARHA in Polk on July 10 at 10:00 a.m. for a picnic. Lunch will be served at noon. There will be horseback riding and cart rides. Just bring a tureen to share, your drink, and table setting. for more than this single event. Peter announced that day that the gift of the Holy Spirit was for anyone who would repent and declare their faith in Jesus as Savior. He also declared that the gift would extend to future generations as well... So Pentecost is the celebration of the Holy Spirit that God gives us as born again believers in Jesus. Father s Day we recognized that we have vision and a dream to see and desire the plans God has not only for ourselves but others. So in our relationships of influence, our goal is to see others live out God s will in their lives to the fullest. Pretty powerful for fathers and grandfathers to pursue that agenda for their kids! We focused on the boldness God inspires for us to speak out of the fire when we rely on the Holy Spirit to give us the right thing to say in any given circumstance. That boldness may put us on stage somewhere speaking to a crowd of thousands or push us out of our comfort zone to quietly reach out to an individual. In either case, when we rely on the Holy Spirit to inspire our actions and guide us in what we say, it will be impacting for the kingdom of God. We are going on to question what it means to call your body the temple of the Holy Spirit. God is Holy. His Spirit is Holy. How holy do I have to be if His Spirit is living in me? This question will challenge us to sexual purity, self-control, righteousness in our attitudes, and even our commitment to unity and peace in the larger Body of Christ. Likely the last message in the series will ask what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Some would associate the gift of the Holy Spirit with a particular experience that each Christian must seek, like a mini day of Pentecost in their life. I, myself, have had numerous Pentecost experiences in my life, some quite dramatic; and, though I count them as significant experiences of great importance to my life, the experience itself was not what was most important. Just as the original day of Pentecost, these experiences in my life have always shown their importance in being the launching point of some new calling or a breakthrough that brought deep changes to me. Our next series will springboard from this to look at the gifts of the Spirit and the ways God enables us to answer God s call to serve. That series will be More than Sunday Morning. I am anticipating this being a great preparation for all of us to find God s calling and to get involved in the work of the kingdom! 3

But He Who is coming after me is mightier than I, Whose sandals I am not worthy or fit to take off or carry : He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Forgiveness Years ago there was a man who owned an abandoned cotton gin in a small town. He was angry and bitter. Many years earlier, the government had offered farmers cash payments to stop planting cotton because of a huge surplus. The program had put the gin owner out of business, and he had never gotten over it. He was unable to forgive, unable to let go of the hurt, and unable to move on. He walked around in the empty cotton gin day after day reliving the injustice. God really wants to bless us. But if we have a tight grip on hurts from the past, then our hands cannot be open toward God. If we want to receive all that God has for us, we cannot live in the past, hanging on to losses, offenses, discriminations and wrongs inflicted on us. We have to be able to forgive to lay those hurtful memories at the cross and let them go. Jesus grace is big enough to cover both of us and those who have sinned against us. Prayer: Dear God we know you are like a skilled surgeon when it comes to cleansing our hearts. With perfect clarity you see inside us, and with the power of the cross, like a laser, God removes all impurity and heals the disease. At Aldersgate 2014, we will celebrate that through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, there is both freedom from, and freedom to. Through song, creative prayer experiences, and relevant preaching, participants will have the opportunity to experience freedom from the pain of our past, the anxiety of our present, and fear about our future. We also will receive the freedom to walk in power, hope, and healing as we are equipped by the Holy Spirit to live and love like Jesus. Come and be refreshed, encouraged, and empowered!
